We're comparing Fogarty to Murphy now?

Fog isn't close to the player Murphy was at his best.
Correct. One had elite quickness, agility and 3D spatial awareness.

Fog has none of these things. He's a good trier and is hard as, but is not midfield material in a successful team for the long term. He is ok depth at best and I would think no chance of playing if we have a full list.

Not a small forward as most agree and is so far down the midfield depth chart it isn't funny. Be shocked to see him renewed next contract unless there is a huge improvement in his game.

Fog is 180cm, 76kg.

Darren Hulme - 175cm, 77kg.

Pup went ok.

Marc Murphy. 180cm... I'd say he went ok... only played a few games though.

I know that comparing height / size can be useful to illustrate a point, but it usually isn't that helpful.

Stephen May and Jack Darling are ~191-192cm, but the reality is most 192cm players can't play KPP.

Patrick Cripps might be a 195cm mid, but the reality is that most 195cm players are not agile, quick or fit enough to play mid. And none of them possess Patty's clearance, vision and handballing skills.

Just because players like Zorko and Neale can/have played as tiny mids, it doesn't mean that any/every tiny mid can play there.

The 'but this guy makes it work' shtick usually highlights the exception, not the rule. Players can certainly break the AFL 'mold', but they need to be special to do so.

Not saying Fog playing permanent mid is impossible, just that it's improbable.

Fog is a mid but not sure he has the weapons to play there at AFL level.

Think his only shot is as a part of the small forward rotation.

Would suggest he’s more likely a high half forward than traditional small forward.
Yeah high half forward which is where he played his first few games for us and had 20+ disposals in each, was then pushed deeper and started to struggle, has very good hands in tight and knows how to delay a handball to the very last moment to put a player into space which he did very well in those early games, like Fish he’s just not a small forward.

Did you catch Honey's goals in the last two games he got to play in - lots of finishing class to go with his strength and competitive willingness. I guess it is early days for him - but I really like him. I reckon a better coaching and team based system will help younger blokes develop better going forward - but athletic and competitive ability is natural - you have it or you don't - I loved the look of Hiney and Durdin combining hitting contests at speed with hardness they created chaos up front - we haven't seen that for a long time at Carlton.

Agree. Honey and Durdin both hit in hard. Both have pace. Durdin is a natural chaser. And Honey is a confident S.O.B around the goals. Can kick long goals that get a side(and crowd) going.

Put them around Harry, Charlie, J.Martin and one of Kemp/Silvagni up front and we've got a setup to give AFL defenses something to think about going forward.

Can't wait to get underway to see how this team is moulded now that the list is finally ready. Genuinely could go many ways in terms of spots for many players. Hardly anyone on the list now i'm afraid of being picked at selection which is a far cry from the regular weekly selection night nightmares of the past.

Roll on season 2022.

We got fog for a bag of chips and he’s already shown enough to be a very good depth player at the least. We need role players in this team and he would make a very good defensive forward. I do see glimpses of a star in there but it’s up to him to put it all together. If not then he’s still a very handy player and he’s still young.

Yeah Hewett is likely type- a very good get for us - lets hope he doesn't ease off if he is forced to play with too many half steppers we are carrying.

The 1st few rounds of last year he was being talked up as one of the recruits of the season.

Fell away badly, but as others have said, was it the Teague gameplan that sapped the players.

Honey and Durdin get first crack.

Fog isn't a small forward. Owies unlucky - good for a goal a game but think the other 2 bring more to the team.

B: Plow Young McGov
HB: Saad Weitering Williams
C: LOB Cripps Cerra
HF: Martin Curnow Fisher
F: Durdin McKay Honey
R: TDK Hewitt Dow
I/C: JSOS Kennedy Kemp Newman

Injuries: Walsh, Doch, Stocker, Marchbank
I like the look of your team but have Honey ahead of Owies imo and hoping Motlop leap frogs em both!
A bit of Motlop magic would be so exciting.

Young looks very promising. Possible ruck relief too.

Dochers?... Do we know if he will be cherry ripe for Rd.1, I wouldnt have thought so.
Just need to him to get himself right....No hurry. Similar for Marchy.

LOB needs to play very well in the pre season games to be in there Rd.1, I hope he does.

Interesting to track this trade. You downgraded from Charlie Lazzaro to Jack Carroll and also handed the Cats the pick with which they took Nick Stevens to get Fogarty across. So if you look at it a certain way it is Fogarty + Carroll v Lazzaro + Stevens. Way too early to be confident who will be best from those players but Fogarty looks like he might have a bit of a low ceiling due to his kicking, and Lazzaro got a bit of exposure in 8-9 games last year with mixed results. Stevens sounds like a hybrid defender type who can run and uses the ball well, but as yet unsighted at AFL level. Jack Carroll I know you guys have good hopes for, but not too many strong AFL mids go below the second round in the National Draft, let alone in the weak 2020 renewal. Perhaps none of them will be world beaters.

Think Obrien cemented his spot with his return to seniors footy at the end of last year frankly. But lets see what Carlton Head of Footy Greg Diesel Williams has to say:

Paddy Dow and Lochie O’Brien

“They both played well.
“O’Brien’s one of the best runners we got at the club, he’s on the wing and he’s in probably the best form he’s been in for a long time.

“They’re all in good form, they’ve all had great pre-seasons, but I really think ‘Dowy’ and him have really stepped it up and they’re going to be part of the team, no doubt about it.”

Reckon he's looking pretty good considering.

So we are basically comparing bags of chips… this is why I think bringing him over wasn’t that much of a problem. All young and unproven however he is the best from that lot right now.

I would say if it transpires Fogarty is the best player of the lot then it really will be an inconsequential trade. I would think there is a decent chance at least one of Lazzaro, Carroll and Stevens has a better career than Fogarty though, if not more than one.

Was the youngest player in the draft from memory. I'm still bullish! May have gove gone higher if WC or Freo had any picks in that range. Freo had the first pick of the second round, but it would have been a reach given his age, and the unknowns of that draft that you mentioned.

Worth giving away a draft pick to avoid having to look at the name Nick Stevens on a Carlton team sheet.

Loved hearing Diesel say O'Brien is in the best form hes seen him in. Normal id take no notice of the comment but diesel no frills williams puts a bit of stock behind it
Tbf he says everyone is in good form, half in career best form haha.

Fogarty was selected by Geelong early in the second round.

... and thanks to the AFL media, I thought that everyone who Stephen Wells drafts at that range is sure to be a bonda fide A grader because he's "the best in the business" and never misses with any of his selections? :drunk:

Yep Honey and Durdin as first picked small forwards every day over Fish.

Thought he was a very late 1st rounder but you’re right, pick 22 in round 2.
Depletes our 1st rounder contingent to…..18
