That's great news, but something doesn't add up.
On March 23rd the club's injury report stated that Cunners would move from a conditioning block into the skills program in a month. Yet just 6 days later he's already training with the main group?
The player I would love to be able to bring in this week for McDonald is Marchbank. He's the ideal CHB when the opposition's 2nd tall forward isn't overly big or threatening. But he's a while away of course.
Great opportunity for whoever comes in.
It hurt us last week with McDonald out. It allowed them to go long in there and avoided that height mismatch. Need that tall CHB who can take a mark and dominate the smaller forwards and medium forwards in the air.

Voss is going to have to get creative if McDonald is (again)a long term injury and Young isnt up to playing man on man against a 2nd tall. It is our # issue atm.Have you considered the resting ruckman? Two of Weitering, Young, Omac as KPDs. Gov, Marchbank, Plow, Kemp, Parks are only 3rd talls

Next issue was exposed very clearly against the Doggies in Q3 and Q4- Fisher and Fogarty are weak links in team defense - but that's much more easily fixable with Martin coming back in.
Neither has the leg speed to go with a running rebounder, in Fisher's case has been shown up in 2/2 games so far. Vossy's style makes these things obvious because team defense means stay with your man enough to slow then down at least.KPDs, absolutely
2nd point, I believe it was more to do with the team as a whole rather than individuals. The tempo/composure stages reduced, as did defensive structure through the connection of the middle and the back 6, essentially our press should have moved forward as a collective when we did get have it in the forward half

Agree that the whole defensive structure fell down somewhat in Q3 - McDonald out was a big change to incorporate.
I am so frustrated and sad that Cunners isn't out there enjoying this new midfield setup. I'm still a huge believer that he is going to tear it up (not the knee again, hopefully!), and it would seem the dynamic now is ripe for him to do just that so long as he returns with the same athletic ability. His ball-handling and kicking is elite, his athleticism is elite - going to be something to behold adding him to the mix.. If he does come on as I believe he will, we will have, without question, the best midfield in the comp ... This season, he'll hopefully have the fitness/form just in time for finals!

Im worried about the fall at the end, I hope we don't do that V Haw.The pressure fell away in H2 across the board....they were tired.
But they'll also learn from that.
The opposite happened the previous week.Im worried about the fall at the end, I hope we don't do that V Haw.
He really is a point of difference we need.Thoroughly agree. Extremely dynamic player who who will hopefully be a significant point of difference and hitting a strong patch of form heading into finals.

Personally, I think Fisher is one player you have got wrong. Hard position to play league wide. Hard position to play in a previously weak side. Hard position to play previously with Cripps, Ed and Dow completing the forward 50 kicks to disadvantage.
Previously Fisher has also had injuries and in one patch Carlton played him continually sore. A bit like Cripps playing sore.
This is Fishers real chance to show up in a 2022 strong line up. I think his current output, stats and impact line up quite well versus other players around the league on the first two games. I think your expectations are wrong On this role. Fisher has now played in two of the hardest games For 22.
In the past you have rightly pointed out that Carlton have been too soft and not tackled enough. I’ve been totally on board with that analysis. One aspect of Fisher is that despite his slight size, he doesn’t fear tight situations like a LoB. In those tight situations Fisher just executes for good or bd. Most times escaping, sometimes getting caught. I can’t say enough about Fishers integrity in those in tight moments that he doesn’t flinch Given his size. It’s a trait and not faked.
I recommend you give Fisher another look. A look in a side that is now functioning well and not a basket case.
I call it Sunset Steel..............Pitto with a bit of salt & pepper.
