I reckon you overpay for Dusty. You probably overpay for any of a few puzzle pieces that are hard to find – should have for Rankine in hindsight too.

It might backfire, you might get decent output for one year, you might get three years but he's perhaps the biggest match-winner of his generation. We shouldn't die wondering with this current group of players. Signing Hardwick probably gives a little breathing room, but if things don't happen quickly under him, the likes of King, Lukosius, Anderson will be getting twitchy and will/should want to make the most of their careers. The massive offers from elsewhere will have already started to roll in.

Split pick 4, give a late first rounder and Hollands and roll the dice.

It’s not so much about winning the trade it’s more about not being a laughing stock again, that time needs to end.

There are so many options that would provide a better outcome, for example

Like waiting until 2025 and getting him for free, or if we had to have him next season, spilt pick 4 for the dogs 2x first rounders. Offer the latter 1 to Richmond but only if they pay half his salary. Use the second earlier one to offset the points loss of moving on pick 4

Am I one of the only ones on this board who doesn’t give a shit about being a “laughing stock” in the eyes of other supporters? I just want to win I don’t care about the past!!

Congrats on the signing of Dimma, he'll set things right for the Suns I'm sure.
From what I'm hearing Jason Castagna will be coming out of early retirement to join Dimma and along with Ellis/Chol help to instill the culture that Dimma wants at the club.
My understanding is that Dusty will remain at Richmond for 2024, play his 300th at Tigerland and then join the Suns on a 2 year Free Agent deal at the end of next year. IF it were to happen this year I'm told the Tiges would be paying a good chunk of Dustys salary and asking for Hollands and your first pick in return which I think would be silly for the Suns to entertain.
I'd love for us to "help" you split your first pick but I we're not in a position to offer what you'd need to ensure you get the three academy kids to your club.
All the best for the off season and next year!
You reckon Chol is a shining example of the 'culture' that Hardwick wants to instill?

No, not exactly, however he knows what Dimma expects from his playing group.
Up to him how he deals with that I guess...

Probably more familiar with your VFL coach whilst he was there.

I just don't like this notion that because these guys have played in a successful era, they're suddenly all culture experts.

Each playing group is different, what worked for Richmond 6+ years ago, isn't necessarily going to work for the Suns.

I get what you’re saying and to a degree its true but all I’m going to say is that every club Dimma has been affiliated with has won premierships that speaks volumes about him and what he is about. He won premierships at Essendon and Port as a player and has gone on to win flags as a coach at Hawthorn and Richmond. I’d say he knows a thing or two about generating success and sustaining success.

Exactly, different set of people. Dimma will need to adjust to the people he has, not try and ram his Richmond culture down their throats.

100%. He has clearly shown a capacity to adjust to different groups and tailor the right approach to maximise the output.
The comment is aimed at those saying Richmond players can come in and 'educate' the Gold Coast group to what Hardwick's requirements are.

I think having some guys to preach the message is no doubt helpful. But the message will need to be different based on the personalities and strengths of the group.

Gold Coast (14): Jed Anderson (unrestricted free agent), Connor Blakely (unrestricted free agent), Sandy Brock, Levi Casboult (unrestricted free agent), Charlie Constable (unrestricted free agent), Sam Day (unrestricted free agent), Oskar Faulkhead, Sam Flanders, Hewago Paul Oea, Brodie McLaughlin, Jeremy Sharp, Jake Stein (unrestricted free agent), James Tsitas, Bodhi Uwland.

Damien Hardwick’s arrival as coach could accelerate some decision-making here. But Casboult’s management is deep in discussions for the evergreen key forward to play on next year. Negotiations on a new contract for Day started before Stuart Dew’s sacking stalled them, so it remains to be seen if he will hang around. Flanders has caused a stir with his career-best form since returning to the senior side in round 15. He has put off talks to the end of the season amid interest from St Kilda and other Victorian clubs. Sharp has not played an AFL game since his ill-fated trade request to Fremantle last year, and it would be a shock if he was at the Suns beyond this season. Anderson took indefinite leave mid-year, while fellow mature-age recruits Constable (two games), Blakely and Stein (none) do not appear to be in the club’s plans. Brock’s VFL form is deserving of another season on the list.

Obviously depends on list size, but my thoughts are

Jed Anderson DELIST
Connor Blakely DELIST
Jake Stein DELIST
James Tsitas DELIST
Charlie Constable DELIST

Sam Day RETIRE

Jeremy Sharp TRADE

Sam Flanders RE-SIGN 2-4 years
Bodhi Uwland RE-SIGN for 2 years
Sandy Brock RE-SIGN for 2 years
Levi Casboult RE-SIGN for 1 year

Debatable
Oskar Faulkhead
Hewago Paul Oea
Brodie McLaughlin

Agree with all that. No harm in keeping the bottom 3 if list spots allow.

Only issue is that’s only going to open 3 list spots on the main list. Ace needs to be elevated or delisted as he has spent 3 years on our list as a Cat B rookie. Going to need to open another 3 or so I reckon
Is there anyone we can ‘delist’ and then re-rookie?

Only thing is I don’t think we need
Burgess and mclaughlin.

When we’ve got good kpf depth with
King, Lukosius, Casboult, Chol, Walter, Jeffrey, Burgess, Mclaughlin, Read

Decent KPF depth with
Collins, Ballard, Andrew, Graham, Brock, Jeffrey, Burgess, Read

I reckon we just had an aim to get some success into the club and win the VFL grand final from the outset. Only reason I can think that we bought in Anderson, Blakely, Mclaughlin etc.. when they were never likely to play.

It’s a bit stiff delisting him as he’s done nothing wrong.

Casboult re-sign as rookie, Constable de-list, Day retire, Sharp trade, Hollands trade - that would be 5 senior spots.

Candidates moving to rookie list to create additional spots - Berry, Macpherson, Burgess. Need more? Sexton, Holman, Fiorini, Graham, Atkins.

It's probably better for young players development when VFL team is winning. We were beaten badly in the past.

Yes,
But young players also need exposure in key roles to develop.

Wouldn't mind Bodhi Uwland or Connor Buderick getting some midfield time in the VFL but they're stuck behind Blakely and Tsitas etc..

So the trade rumours to date?

James Jordon
Adam Treloar
Jason Johannison
Jason Castagna
Dusty Martin
