Sam Whiteman at $62,500 for those who may want a cash cow. Likely to get the gloves for Perth Scorchers, leading runscorer in Marsh Cup this season (number 1)................Bat top 4 in the last Marsh Cup game. I would imagine coming back from the Sydney Thunder (played with them last season), he will get more responsibility being in the Top 4? He did bat at number 3 for Sydney Thunder in his 3 games for them last season.

Hardie is batting at 3 so Whiteman either opens or plays at 4.

Keepers are interesting. Good point about Inglis. You are paying 180k for a batter effectively where the money could be spent on an allrounder who will consistently score like an Abbott, Curran, Sams or a risk on Sutherland.

Of the cheap keepers

Wade, Philippe and maybe Billings with Whiteman or McDermott on the bench are the ones to go with.

I don't trust Philippe or Billings even if they have a double and triple. Cant play Wade for one game so considering starting Whiteman as he has two games.

Adelaide Strikers XI possiblity for their first game: Matt Short, Hunt, D'Arcy Short, Weatherald, Hose (Import), Nielsen (wicket keeper), David Payne (Import), Overton (Import), Bazley, Wes Agar, Thornton.

Players that miss out: Chris Lynn (UAE league), Head (Tests), Carey (Tests), Rashid Khan (not playing )

That Adelaide squad looks a poor squad to me. We have to remember they finished 2nd last , last season. And their imports are hardly inspiring. Matt Short is one of the pricier players in the market and I cant justify $244,100 for him

Im looking a bit ahead at the Round 2 Adelaide Double.

Dont buy into the hype of Nathan Lyon with the Melbourne Renegades. He will prob get 1 or 2 games during the season.

Im sold on Kellapotha

If Steve Smith is turning out for the December 8 fixture against the Renegades, I am assuming Nathan Lyon will turn out for the Melbourne Renegades in the opening fixture

A potential Melbourne Renegades XI opening side:

Shaun Marsh, Maddinson (c), Mackenzie Harvey, Joe Clarke (wicket keeper), Finch, Fraser Mc-Gurk, Sutherland, Tom Rogers, Lyon, Kane Richardson, Zampa

I reckon they milk Lyon for all the marketing value in the first game (potentially for the opening 2 games) before replacing him with Mujeeb .

What do we reckon about that?

Melbourne Stars XI for opening game: Thomas Rogers, Stoinis, Sam Harper (wk), Cartwright, Maxwell, Kellaway, Webster, Coulter-Nile, Liam Dawson (Import), Paris, Scott Boland

Pakistan dont release their imports , so wont see : Rauf, Usama Mir and Imad Wasim early. Steketee is with PMXI.

Stars also seem to be this season, to be one of the least affected sides with international duty overlap.

A bit like Adelaide, I dont reckon bar Maxwell that is much of an impressive lineup come opening night .Look like a side that can be attacked from the bowling department.

Have to remember this Stars lineup , the majority came dead last , last season. Their imports will help them for sure, but they dont come till late December.

And the Sydney Sixers predicted XI:

Sydney Sixers on Friday: Steve Smith, Philippe, Daniel Hughes, Henriques , Silk, Tom Curran (Import), Kerr, Dwarshuis, Abbott, O'Keefe, Naveed (Import)

The team kind of picks themself. I dont see too many changes . Vince doesnt play their first game because of a clash with the UAE T10s. Patterson doesnt get in ahead of Steve Smith. And somewhere done the line you would imagine, Todd Murphy gets a game when Naveed departs for international duty.

Tom Curran is a name that has gone a bit undernoticed as an import? Sixers have alot of these all rounder/pacer types in : Kerr, Abbott, Tom Curran and Dwarshuis. You imagine 1, possibly 2 - come off in a game, but not all 4 at the same time. So that can be a bit tricky in picking the right one.

That's a pretty bad team. If Maxwell and Stoinis don't fire they are pretty much screwed. Webster is in the tour match isn't he?

Abbott and Curran will always bowl death though. If they bowl first, those are the two to target as a captain.

So that settles it, he is here for round 1. Bugger.
When he arrives I'll believe it

But atm I've selected him (far easier to trade him down than find cash and trade him in as a last minute scramble)

Damn your right......

Take Webster out, Include probably Larkin over Joe Burns? Larkin gives them more an anchor in their innings. Although im not sure if you can play: Thomas Rogers/Larkin/Kellaway all in the same side. You definitely cant play all four of: Joe Burns, Larkin, Thomas Rogers and Kellaway in the same side thats for sure.

Melbourne Stars XI for opening game: Thomas Rogers, Stoinis, Sam Harper (wk), Cartwright, Maxwell, Kellaway, Nick Larkin, Coulter-Nile, Liam Dawson (Import), Paris, Scott Boland

Are banking on Coulter-Nile/Maxwell and Stoinis to chip and share overs .

I have $313k cap space left, is the aim of Round 1 to use up as much cap space as possible? or to leave some room for Round 2 ?

Make sure your bench has players that will play all games in Round 1 so they generate money. Sangha, Short, Maddinson, Whiteman are all keepers and should rise a lot.

I only have $9,200 free. I am starting with De Kock, Hardie, Matt Short, Jhye Richardson and Colin Munro as my over 150k players.

I need to trade in Short anyway come round 2 so may as well cough up and start with him. Plus I'll be trading Munro out in round 2 anyway to bring in Overton and will trade two others for Strikers as well. Hardie, Short, Richardson and Zampa are the ones I keep all season.

I could wait until Round 2 to trade in Short but there is a very strong chance he is one of the leading scorers that round if he plays to his best. I'll bank on that.

Easy question

Which Strikers are you bringing in?
Matt Short and which other 2?

Work back from there
