Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

For sure he just looks like a natural footballer and was top 10 in 4 of the 5 combine tests!

Yeah i want this kid. Isnt rated at in the top ten for some reason but he looks elite. I wanted him from the first video i saw and had no idea where he was rated. Athletic and football smarts. Be a great fit on the wing for us with some ability to shift forward.

🤦‍♂️ It isn’t hate to think other players maybe better than Watson.
People are so convinced and set in "their guy". They take it quite serious.

I'll back whomever MM and Co decide to go with but the incessant putting down of Watson because he's only 170cm in here is starting to get ridiculous. I'm fully prepared that we could go with any of Duursma, Curtin, McKercher or Watson but I do think there are a few in here that are going to be very painful to deal with IF we do decide to go with Watson. The game day threads if he doesn't kick 4-5 goals or tackle like prime Cyril are going to be 'whipping boy' epic.

The point I was trying to make is that you don't have to step on one draftee to make another seem better which is starting to happen with Watson.

He is quite short.

Reminds me of Max Holmes. Played a good Coates league game on the inside toward the back end of the year.

Probably a lack of contested footy is the knock

Ready-made, 198cm, 24 yo KPP with strong hands. Hard to see why he wasn't picked up in the MSD this year. Looks like a great addition to our list.

I wouldn’t worry about people being painful if we pick Watson. MM will have critics regardless of who he picks.
Eg. Watson is too short.

McKercher will go back to Tassie and we don’t need mids.

Curtin is not a true KPD and will go back to WA

Duursma has no endurance

Reid is overrated and will request a trade to the Cats.

You can’t please everyone on here.

Will Day?!!?! Why would we choose this skinny flanker when Brodie Kemp was available?! Damn you, MM!

Yes.
Weitering like in his ease of marking. Would work well sitting in the backline behind Sicily. We might not take Curtin in the draft now that he’s at Box Hill.

I've only heard that he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed and doesn't interview very well.

To be blunt, Tew has played maybe three good games at the back end of the season. For them to be saying he could be a late second rounder shows just how shallow this draft is.
Whoever we take after McCabe, whether Tew or Calsher or anyone else, will be a complete hit & hope. With lots more emphasis on the hope part.

We're very lucky in the sense that we have a F/S giving us two first rounders this year because once we get into the twenties it's pretty much over.
Yes some players will make it but for everyone that does nine will be delisted in two years time. There's just very little in the draft this year and all clubs know it.

In the last few years people discussed the impact that COVID had on the 2020 draft with some valid reasoning. But as someone pointed out to me the other day, there is an arguement that the most impacted group of juniors is actually this year's class as they missed the vital U15/16s development year and have been playing catch up since.

I wonder if this could be a reason for the shallow draft that most are talking about.
The Allies in particular had their strongest showing ever (ie less COVID lock downs and restrictions) and even the Vic Country boys were better than the Metro squad.

If there is any merit in this thinking, there could potentially be some Vic Metro boys that develop/bloom a bit later.
