Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

McKenzie and his team have a pretty good track record at talent identification so I will probably be pretty happy with whatever they do.
However, my preference is best available with pick 4 regardless of position and definitely not trading back.
If an opportunity exists to trade into the top 10 with our future first for a player they rate no doubt that has been explored and may be actionable.
McCabe is a free hit in the first round and seems to have been planned for.
Interestingly he seems to have played mainly as a forward prior to this year so he may have some positional flexibility.
Dear is a good story and will probably be taken very late. He will almost certainly be a long shot but let’s be optimistic about his potential development.
Monday night will be a lot of fun.
I would argue we have an excellent record with later picks not sure the early picks record is proven just yet. Will day clearly a great selection, but seamus in front of DGB, CMAc in front of ward (although I think ward will be a very good player), weddle in front of Mackenzie. On that basis Trade back…

I’m set on Watson at pick 4 and the only way I’m thinking of trading down is for melbournes 6,11 and future first and nothing less. 11 and Melbournes F1 for Geelongs pick 8 and Future 2nd or would 3rd more likely.
Curtin, O’Sullivan/Caddy, McCabe and Dear
Thinking about it, it really does set up our future for talls

Yes that’s the point. Getting top quality KP now plus speculative on Dear it’s the right time.

I watch as much draft content as I can but I must admit I missed Phoenix Gothard. Great name but I think he’s exactly what we need he’s a quick small forward who tackles well but has great composure and decision making would complement our forwards very well. Davo-27 where do you have him and how do you think he balances our list?
He is a quick small forward from the Murray Bushrangers and Allies team, I think I have had him around the 25-45 range(2nd round), was good for Murray early, but stood out as a talent at the champs, as far as balancing our list, he could eventually play hff on the opposite side as Moore.

I think we might end up with Curtin

1. obviously Harley Reid
2. Jed Walter would have been pick 1, as KPF of his quality are rare and usually go higher than any other position
3 + 4. North should take Curtin, but they seem set on McKercher and Duursma, or at least that's the rumours
5. So that leaves us with Curtin(KPD/mid) most likely, but there are other options like Watson(sml forw), Sanders(mid), O'Sullivan(KPD), Windsor(wing), Demattia(mid/hbf), D.Wilson(wing/hff), Caddy(KPF)

I don't have a favourite, I'm just interested to see what choices we make.

If Connor o'sullivan gets passed Geelong , I can easily see essendon passing on him too. They've spent pick 7 on reid and 25 on Hayes last year , throw in nick cox whose only potential chance of making it might be an intercept defender. Then adelaide have one of the better young defences in the league. Could we potentially slide in after that?

I have to agree Davo, I just can't see the club passing on KPD with leadership quailities if available. Regardless off the success we have had with DGB so far.

Duursma Vs Watson would be a intriguing choice if North blink on Duurs.

If we identify a talent like a Weddle we want to trade back in for fair enough. I would back the club in, but i would be very cautious on trading our FF.

The list demographic and Mitchell third season at the helm all things point to a see a rise up the ladder. A first round pick could be pivotal come trade time next season.

The fact that Jason Taylor the MFC National Recruiting Manager thinks it is a good idea to get pick 4 and have us move back is a compelling reason not to do so.
Taylor is a good operator and obviously sees better value in 4 than what he is offering us.
GCS is the only club to date to have traded out of the elite end of the draft and obviously had no other options.
Everyone would like to move forward but no one is selling.
I wonder why?

Strange argument. I didn’t say move at any cost I put a very high price on it which was 6,11,f1. Also Dees are in a different window than us so you view what make sense differently getting one high pick when in the window makes more sense than multiple young talents.

People going to lose their minds in here when we pass on Curtin at 4 for Watson?
90% of this thread is the planning of our collective funeral processions on the slightest chance we even talk to anyone other than Watson.

I don't speak for everyone else at Camp Curtin, but I just think Curtin will be a better player than Watson. If the coaches disagree, so be it. No matter what happens draft night, we will end up with a player on par with the top three of the past few years. Everyone of the top 6 (plus Jed and Read) are special talents.

Or the other way round if we pass on Watson for Curtin.
either way, some will be throwing their toys out of the cot.
Seems very unlikely that is going to happen.
its why Dees want Pick 4, its why Dogs are into Sanders after realising Watson will be gone, its why Eagles have spoken to Dees about getting back in at 6 (to take Curtin).

Every club thinks we're taking Wiz.
