Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

Plays with a straight bat he does, compared to the numerous flogs in the media, he is a breath of fresh air.
I love it when people are passionate about something im interested in. I really like how excited he gets on behalf of these lads.

He is a fountain of knowledge too, love listening to him.

What horseshit.

I want to win as many games as possible. So do the coaches. I want to play finals as soon as possible..not just accrue pick 4s or 5s until we have some magical number of 'high picks'

None of this bullshit, mythical, "Lets be really s**t for a few more years, before we magically launch a dynasty based on being really s**t for a long long time"

If we finish 8th, we'll get pick 11 or so...that will not doom us forever, will it?
A pick around 11 is only gonna get you a player like Will Day......wait a sec......

In one scenario put to fooxfooty BY WHO?

Some random on social media?
Someone from North?
The list manager at GWS?
One of their journos making stuff up in the off season?

The absolute dearth of substance in any of this stuff is absolutely ridiculous.
Thoughts?

Pretty much every year Picks 10-13 turn up some banger players, you can tip your toes in the kiddy pool of finals and bring in an elite player.

2015 - Pick 11 - Milera, Pick 12 - Curnow, Pick - 13 Kennedy
2016 - Pick 11 - Florent, Pick 12 - Simpkin, Pick - 13 Venables
2017 - Pick 11 - Bonar, Pick 12 - Fogarty, Pick - 13 Brander
2018 - Pick 11 - Caldwell, Pick 12 - Butters, Pick - 13 Quaynor
2019 - Pick 11 - Flanders, Pick 12 - Pickett, Pick - 13 Day
2020 - Pick 11 - Pedlar, Pick 12 - Bruhn, Pick - 13 Powell
2021 - Pick 11 - Wanganeen-Milera, Pick 12 - Sinn, Pick - 13 Hobbs
2021 - Pick 11 - Hollands, Pick 12 - Fletcher, Pick - 13 Busslinger

This why people should never hope to lose games.

Mitchell himself said we were rebuilding. Surely finishing 8th to 10th year after year is the St Kilda type purgatory that should be avoided at all costs and means you have to trade for Brad Hill, Zak Jones and Ryder types for a move up the ladder? I put the Ben McKay attempted signing in that category.

We committed to a rebuild and it looks like now it's an accelerated rebuild that will likely result in a shoddier end result.

I wonder if the Hawks take Curtin at four and then aim for Watson via a trade with GWS 7.

We walk away with Curtin, Watson, McCabe and Dear…. We will find out soon! Fingers x

I see no conclusions here that have any basis in evidence.

What St Kilda do has a TINY amount to do with their draft picks, and everything to do with their culture, development, trading and most importantly, coaching. You are confusing their mid-table finishes as the cause of their shitfulness as a club, rather than the effect of their shitfulness.

The idea that improving next year as a team will make be 'likely' to make our rebuild 'shoddier' has absolutely no basis in reality. It's bizarro world stuff, to be frank...

With Pick 5 (after bids) Hawks are ‘on the clock’

3mins later……. Hawks will ask for Extra Time….

Decisions,decisions …..Watson, Curtin, Duursma…????

Imagine we had to take him hahah!
Ultimate sliding doors…

What if hawthorn had selected Luke Franklin…then…

After the 2021 draft Mitchell and Mackenzie declared that a large portion of our next premiership were already on the list.

The plan was for 9 picks inside 30 over 3 seasons, with 2021 included.

Ward
MacDonald
Butler
Mackenzie
Weddle
Pick 4
McCabe

The club also didn't expect Newcombe to come on to elite status the way he did. Day began the rebuild in 2019. Maginness and Seamus Mitchell are also top 30 picks from the previous year's before 2021.

That plan of 9 picks has likely been slightly altered to 7, but could even be 8 if we trade into the first round again this evening.

You need to trust Sam Mitchell on this one. The plan is basically right on track.

Yep, some seemed to have missed that memo re our strategy.

I'll make it less bizarro world for you.

The likelyhood is next year instead of getting say a McKercher type player we get a Caddy or O'Sullivan now. So trading a probable elite level talent for a very good or good talent plus a year of development. Essentially trading a pick 3 or 4 for a pick 8-10. This is of course based on probability and teams can rise or fall quickly.

Draft picks have a LARGE amount to do with success. If your performance is mid table and you get a mid first round pick year after year you don't have the core elite talent to win a flag or be bad enough to sink down the table and get a Harley Reid.

My core argument is that accelerating the rebuild via drafting less talented players and bringing in players like McKay that might buy you a win or 2 for $900k a year is not the ideal process.
