Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

Three more days of random pick number generation and blatantly one-sided swaps... Thank the Lord.

Then we smoothly segue into "coulda, woulda, shoulda" mode for a couple of weeks, complete with lots of praise/vitriol for MM.

Then.. finally... Waiting with bated breath for the training reports from The_Axeman.
Who exactly WILL train the house down?

16 years on BF. It never changes 👍
Sums it up beautifully.

If Melbourne did offer 6 + 11 + F1 for pick 4 we would take it in a heartbeat. That's a significant package for a two pick upgrade.

You are not looking at it the right way. Look at the gap between the players that will be available at pick 4(5) and 6(7).

There is a standout top 6 which Dees current don't have access to.

I'd be holding firm and wait until draft night to see if Dees add F1 to 6 + 11. Otherwise I'd be taking Wiz.

Pick 11 would be swallowed in a McCabe bid.

Pass.
I think we would get confirmation he wouldn't be before we did a trade like that. I mean , toomey can land the first 10 or so picks in his phantom , I'm almost certain the club would have a fair indication. Either way it's unlikely to happen and we just trade our f1 .

I don't think there's any chance McCabe is bid on before Crows first at earliest. I think the draft is right and we'll have to match a bid around 14+
That still doesn't mean I think we should accept 6 + 11 for 4. We shouldn't.

That is how God Ordained. Water takes the path of least resistance.

Did you expect something different? Would be quite unnatural given who the participants are.

For those fussing over bid before pick 11, there are so many ways pick 11 can be put to use.

Trade it for some clubs F1,
Swap it for pick 8 with Cats (or GWS/Dons/Crows)and swap of F1's

I don't want to trade down from Pick 4 and do it only if our likely target is available at pick 6 and the offer is overs.

Would anyone swap our future 1 for

Pick 11 (blows out with bids) and Melbourne's future 1, if the McCabe bid hasn't come, of course.

I am just trying to think how we would be getting into that Harry Demattia range - as we are reported to be interested.

We would still hold a first rounder next year which could be used as trade collateral
If KL is right and Cats trade us pick 8 it might work but he also said we're interested in O'Sullivan & Leake and others so I don't really see Harry happening.

Despite all the chatter to the contrary, I honestly think WCE trading #1 to NM for #2 & #3 is a chance to happen on the night.

WCE have too many holes in their list and Reid can't fill all of them, so are they really going to be upset if they don't get him?
#2 or #3 can easily be swapped, should they choose to swap #3 with Melb for example.
Would West Coast fans really NOT see the benefit of going to the draft with #2 #6 & #11 as opposed to just pick #1?

North Melb have a reasonable set of mids already - LDU, Thomas, Wardlaw + George is yet to debut, Powell, Phillips etc. It's not stellar, but it's the best bit of their list!
They get #1 - Harley Reid fits right into their onball mob, but more importantly - Press coverage, more members, more bums on seats.

North don't need to make finals anytime soon - they need to get publicity / media coverage to stop the slow death of the club that is happening in front of their eyes.
Membership and TV viewing is low, and they are just a 'meh' club. Harley would be a step to some positive press for a change.

My point is: all the plans for the top 20 picks may well go out the window on draft night. WCE might, just might, decide that 3 top 15 picks are better for the long term improvement in the team, than Harley Reid, as good as he may turn out to be.

It would be nice to have a genuinely interesting draft night for a change!

Hello, Eagles say they're offering 2024r1 for your pick 4 this year. They seem confident you can't possibly turn down such a generous offer.
I assume you guys think differently?
I think GWS might accept that offer instead for Pick 7.
Go for it. There's no way we'd trade out a chance for a gun this year just to get another mid next year.

If this happens then its like any other bid if the bid is not where we rate McCabe then we do not match and pick a player we rate higher

That's cutting off your nose to spite your face. We've accumulated late picks to pay for f/s bids and delisted players to use those picks which will become worthless. I just can't see the club letting that possibility occur.

If we do secure pick 11 it will be ontraded for future pick(s) if we think a bid will come early.

Maybe we should try for the bulldogs pick 5 with our future first then, if the right man is left on the board for us.

The Bulldogs will want more than what they gave up to get it which was a king's ransom.

Besides, the right man will be available at pick 4.

Unless we can ontrade it back into this draft there's no appeal. Next year's draft is stocked with mids which we don't have as high a need for. And there's no guarantee Eagles finish on the bottom.
