I don’t know anything about him but I wouldn’t be super happy if we used a first rounder on a 180cm mid with knocks on his disposal & speed (as per Mojo’s post above) tbh

I'd say that sounds a lot like Rhylee West, who I appreciate but we probably only need one of. West also has that extra agility.

If we bid on him with our second first rounder. What are the odds Sydney will match? Are they heavy into him? They need KPP more than midfielders as well. They would have sacrifice their second round pick and some more to match.

If we want him, it will be a bid with our second first round pick, assuming Croft has not been bid on by then.
I wouldn’t have a clue I just saw the comment that we were keen on the kid so I copied and shared it on here.

Not saying I want to use that pick on him, but our next pick will be in the 30s, and he will be long gone by then, so just saying at this point in time, it will be the likely pick we'd use unless we get more picks in between. More so if he keeps climbing the boards if he plays well for the rest of the season in under 18s.

Anyways, the pick was irrelevant and just an example. Point of the question was will Sydney 100% percent match? Just seems odd we'd interview a guy for two hours, if Sydney are all in on him, super low odds of getting him. But at least it shows we are interested in, and am looking at MIDS in the draft.
I'd imagine Swans would match anywhere from the end of the first onwards.
I do rate Cleary and he is probably the third best pure Mid behind his Allies team mates in McKercher and Sanders however this year's draft is all about outside mids flankers and talls (which is exactly what we need).
Next year has 5-10 inside mids of a very high quality.

Would be seen as a libba type replacement I'd imagine.
I'd much rather use that pick on Lual.
I guess I just want to believe that Libba will play til 38 😢

But I don’t think we necessarily have to replace him right now (unless it’s the right pick of course) but definitely will get more desperate over the next year or two.

I'd still take a punt on a pure inside mid with a latter pick if we don't land one of Reid, McKercher, Sanders, Wilson. Once we address other needs of course.
I think the club is aware at our lack of defensive ability, hence seem to be linked to / or talking to players whose tackling is a strength. Still personally big on Wilson and O'Sullivan as our first two picks if possible.

I have quickly thrown together a couple player comparisons for those spoken about on here.
Although comparisons are fraught with danger I think they're good to get an idea of a players ceiling or floor and the distance between them aswell as style of game. Aslong as it isn't taken as exact science and isn't used as a means for not watching the under 18s
For a couple I've put in two players and that will either represent Worst/Best case or in cases of dual position.

Archer Reid - Josh Shache/Eric Hipwood
Ryley Sanders - Bayley Smith
Colby McKercher- Zach Merrett
Nick Watson - Jack Higgins/Toby Greene
Jack Delean - Jamie elliott
Luamon Lual - Isaac Quaynor (Def) Michael Frederick (wing)
Connor O'Sullivan - Tom Barrass
Will Patton - Tom Doedee
Ollie Murphy - Harris Andrews
Jordan Croft - Joe Daniher (Fwd) Naughton(Def)
Nate Caddy - Daniel Menzel/Charlie Curnow
Caiden Cleary - Dev Robertson/James Rowbottom

If this is something you like I could do more if not I'm happy to leave it there.
Appreciate the effort it's good to have a stylistic understanding of what type of players they are or might become

We are lucky in terms of inside mids taking the least amount of time to develop so don't need to rush into anything.

Both likely to be gone by our 2 current picks. I'm very big on O'Sullivan but not the one I'd trade up for, if we trade up to the suns pick we need to grab Watson to get Flea a partner and improve Fwd/Mid connection if he isn't there I'd grab Duursma. I think Sanders is too similar to B.Smith and McKercher goes before the Suns pick.

Wilson I'm not huge on, I like his upside but think his floor is too low. Their are a few wingman I like more and that I Know the club prefer a bit later in the draft, Lual around the Brisbane pick and De La Rue around pick 30-50.

There are a fair few who should be available if we trade in with a second after matching Croft. Someone like Clay Hall, Kane McAuliffe, Sam Frangalas, Cooper Simpson.

If we were after a tackling, tough Mid I'd look at Hugo Garcia in the rookie Draft. Has the benefit of also playing forward and wing.

I think my appeal in Wilson is the fact he has the ability to play both inside and outside. As opposed to being a one dimensional player. We know Bevo loves to throw the magnets around. But to be honest, no inside out outside mids appeal to me at our two picks that are likely to be in the 14-20 range. You have the clear few inside the top dozen we will miss out on, then the next batch are probably more in the 20s range where we have to slightly reach. Feel this was a bad year to have two picks, as they are in an awkward spot.

All players I'm interested in this year have multiple roles.
Lual can play defence and wing and has shown he can also go inside.
Duursma can play forward and stints in the middle.
Watson can play close to goal or at high half forward kicking cleanly into F50.
De La Rue can play inside out side and defence.
Even my choice of rookie Hugo Garcia can play as a small Utility.

I think Croft could become the Jones replacement. He reminds me alot of naughton both forward and back except he is 5cm taller, he should fill out nicely aswell.
Yes I agree. His chasing and tackling are particularly Naughtonesque. Pack marking not quite as good as Naughton but not many are.

Watson would make an instant impact as well and would compliment the other smalls we have. A forward line that rolls these types of names through is elite;
Naughton, Marra, Darcy, Weightman, Watson, Clarke, Arty and Croft.

Will hate Watson on other teams, got a bit of campaigner in him. Was shooshing Haileybury opponents when Caulfield went up by a few goals, only for them to come back and silence him for the Grand Final win.

Watson would honestly be the perfect player to plonk on a HFF and let him do his thing in our side.

McAuliffe - sliding down the order but is a bigger body and seems agile

Is there any issue that is seeing him slide down order ?
Production? He's 'going ok' but not banging the door down. Haven't caught up with his recent form though, he's probably hurt by an outstanding start to the year.

I actually don't mind the idea of a rookie spot for Lachie Sullivan too considering Libba is getting older and Treloar is always a soft-tissue injury risk.

Don't mind the occasional campaigner. We need more of it in our players. Just no thugs please.

Wouldn't mind seeing McPherson get a rookie spot and play our "Tagger Role." The kid has heart in spades and is hard as a cat's heat.

Ave's
20 odd touches
4 tackles (got 9 in one game)
Tough contested player

Could be our Finn Maginness.

That being said, need to cut deep to do it.

We will never have a designated tagger in a bevo coached team.
