Yeah I get we’re stacked for forwards but I’m not sure why people aren’t excited about him. When I watch his footage on YouTube all I think about is what he could become - that speed & athleticism & then aggression on top of it. That package will be at minimum a solid afl player

I'd be a lot more excited if he could catch.

It's just the nature of this kind of player. You see an incredible athletic profile for a tall - I see a small in a tall's body who lacks in some of the key attributes of a key position player. Not saying either of us are right or wrong and it's important to note I've seen a very tiny amount (and as soon as his name is called will back him in).

My read is I see more AFL level KPP attributes in Croft than I did with Busslinger.

Croft doesn’t have the size yet but he has the aggression and willingness for the contest to be an effective tall, as well as the height and athleticism.

I don’t really agree that he’s a small in a talls body at all to be honest, what about him makes you think he plays like a small? Just because he has athleticism? He crashes packs like a tall, presents like a tall, runs leading patterns like a tall. Just has good follow up at ground level too, that’s a bonus.

His marking doesn’t look like a huge weakness for mine, but definitely doesn’t look like a strength - I’d expect it to improve with added strength

I'm yet to be convinced by Busslinger. Maybe an injury free off-season will do him a world of good.
I was very encouraged by his progression throughout the year given the injury he was coming back from. I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t debut sometime next year tbh. Certainly will benefit from a full preseason.

For me - again, limited online-only viewing, so hardly reliable - he seems to avoid engaging his defender and instead spreads and beats them with run, which is much harder to do at AFL level. He is a poor mark for his height. He may have the aggression to crash packs and follow up at ground level but in what I've seen he doesn't actually positively impact the contests that much. Many of the marks he does take seem to be on much smaller opponents, or in space, or when his direct opponent is otherwise engaged. He doesn't actually seem to beat them all that regularly. He takes the game on but doesn't seem particularly tidy. On the watch he lacks that dominance that first-round KPFs typically bring, for me - and this checks out if you look at his Coates League stats relative to his contemporaries. At present he looks like the classic tall bloke I'd put a 190cm mobile defender on, nullify his run, and just wear it when he plucks a couple marks.

He certainly has some fantastic strengths. This post here is not a balanced appraisal, it is a selective choosing of the criticisms I have on limited footage, as you've asked for. He might be great. But in an open pool, he's not somebody I would look at and think first round KPF. Perhaps he does fare well down back, but until we see it, it's blind hope. Key defence is more than an athletic profile.

That’s a serious athletic profile for Kane McAuliffe, I thought that was a knock on him? How’s his foot skills & where does he land in the draft

I'd be ok if we took him late or as a rookie. Weaknesses would be endurance and upside. It's a bit of a concern that he hasn't really stood out at SANFL reserves level given he is very well physically developed. His physicality and defensive game are the two things that stand out to me and could develop into a tagger maybe.

I personally think adding both Watson / Collard wouldn’t be overkill.

All our small forwards have the ability to rotate through midfield or wing. Once fitness permits.

Weightman had a bit of a crack last year.
Clarke was noted to have that ability in his draft year and Arty has always been destined for the wing.
Watson and Collard both have played through midfield and wing previously. Collard reminds me of a young Shai Bolton.
They are both special players. With real star qualities.

It could definitely work and we’d have the most dangerous forward half set up in the league.
