I don't care how AFL ready this Mannagh fella is, we are seriously delusional if we use our first draft pick on a 26 year old. That's Geelong drafting Pods stuff, except Geelong had just played two of the last three grand finals and were topping up a premiership list, we're 14th

No chance he gets picked with 38 or 41. Walls said best available. What he means is two best available young players. Seems we’re keen on Simpson. Who knows with the second. I like that medium tall forward Morris but he will likely go before our picks.

There are a good 12-15 players available so we will select two of them.

We will then see if Mitch Edwards slides through. The WB and Hawks have a touch and go NGA they are also hoping slide through to 41.

Mannagh and Clohessy will be considered with our last pick or rookie draft. Not before.

Thank god for that. We would be a laughing stock taking him with a second round pick over a 18 year old

Podsiadly was drafted with a late pick in the rookie draft only further strengthening your point (even if it was ages ago).

Any pick before 50 would be a historic high for a player drafted after the age of 24. Mannagh has some good stats and had a great finals series but I'm not sure he's the best player over 24 in draft history tbh. And I'm not sure this draft is that weak - we're not talking a super draft but they'll be around the same amount of good players and total picks as most recent drafts imo.

In an age where journalism is dead, Twomey really is brilliant and deserves a lot of kudos even if the website is trying to turn him into the same broseph as everyone else in AFL media. Clubs dont want people knowing who they are going to pick, it cant be undersold how hard it is to get it this right in the top 20

I agree I think he’s hands-down the best journalist in the AFL media and by some distance too. He’s a respectful guy, comes across as insightful but also a decent person. Clearly works very hard at getting the facts right too.
He’s mastered the art of providing content that’s of interest and value and originality without acting like an absolute campaigner to obtain it.

I'm with Lach72, his highlights are ridiculous, he basically looks like an LDU clone. There is obviously some glaring deficiencies like he doesnt touch the ball much or something because I'm down to get LDU at pick 36.

Well this sounds promising. Hopes are up.

Totally agree

Also I really miss Emma Quayle draft analysis

Without feeling too dirty, there's a bit of Luke Shuey there.

That's one I think people will enjoy more than Suban. I want to see how much fight he has in him. I want to know how he handles being pushed around by a six foot four Northampton lad in a blue top.

That burst of pace looks very good. Long kick on him too.

I think Mannagh will be an absolute gun after looking into his back story online. It was around three years ago that Mannagh was first contacted by afl recruiters who told him there was some interest by afl recruiters but he had to work on getting more explosive and covering more ground. Mannagh then took the advice on board and the next preseason he hired a sprint coach and worked a ton over the last three preseasons on what were his perceived weaknesses. His explosiveness improved to the extent he's now elite even compared to afl players and his GPS data proves that. That information came from an interview with Michael Barlow late las season where described Mannagh as he hardest trainer he'd seen at VFL level. The rumours are our pick swap with Gold Coast was designed to get ahead of Essendon's second round pick as they are the other team with strong interest in Shaun.

I'll be the minority I know but I'll be wrapt if we end up with both Mitch Edwards and Mannagh today. I like the idea of Edwards spending a significant amount of time developing as a forward and sharing ruck duties at WAFL level while he's in he is developing and the same goes for Knobel. If one of those two can make it after a few years developing then we can unleash Jackson as a midfielder where he'll be a clearance beast.

Yeah, being "interested in Mannagh" means being one of like two clubs thinking about putting him on a list somewhere, not, use one of your best two picks on him
The rumours are every club has show interest but its us and Essendon who have the most interest. I didn't see it but I've been told by a friend that Walls did a draft preview podcast saying that he thought this years draft was very shallow in young talent outside of the top 30 picks so they would be getting creative with our selections. He also said the club rated Edwards very highly.
