Trent Tattoli for Centrals vs West.

39 disposals 21 kicks 18 handballs 12 marks 3 tackles 5 inside 50s and 2 goals 1 point. Apparently gave away a free but it was dubious.

He is getting ridiculous.

This may be unpopular but considering we have JHF, SPP. Butters & Drew I would consider trading Wines, he's 28 and has good value. We need to chase Picket or get back into the draft some how and from what I hear it's a good draft.
Looking back to Robbie and Boak's career, personally I wouldn't begrudge any 28 year old wanting to move back home to a side that's a chance to win a flag. Especially if all parties accept that chances of Ollie seeing a GF parade, let alone win one, this side of 30 are virtually non existent.

Comes down to the trade, you'd want something similar to the Wingard deal. Preferably part of the discussion to be had with new coach and board.

Shits me that we have this mindset as the gap shouldn't be beyond us given the state of the comp, but we are run by steady as she goes types.

Scouting notes AFL Academy vs Port

''#23 Connor O’Sullivan (Murray Bushrangers/NSW-ACT)
19/05/2005 | 198cm | 92kg | Key Defender/Utility

O’Sullivan didn’t get onto the ground in the first quarter, but managed to show off his impressive athletic base that has seen recruiters taking extra notice of him recently. O’Sullivan was a constant headache for the Port Adelaide tall forwards, possessing great closing speed that made it difficult for opponents to get any marks on the lead or in the air. O’Sullivan mostly used it well, often looking for safe switch options, but did occasionally pull out a long bomb forward when the situation called for it.''

this is the one that interests me.

198cm Backman with good closing speed. also 92kgs is a good size to start building on, doesn't sound too scrawny.

Yeah I agree we haven’t really had too many opportunities to select high end key defenders with early picks and I also think we’ve used our early picks really well.

I do think we could have prioritised drafting key defenders with mid to late picks more though.
Add in our use of the rookie list and mid-season draft has been shit. Low ceiling 'safe' undersized mid-forwards the obsession. Sure if we had picked a dozen prospective project KPDS (/Project rucks) across the last 5 or 6 years using those spots maybe only 1 or 2 would have been ok, but that's still better than any number of 'Poor man' Sam Grays Ken's swiped right on.

Is Teakle an undersized mid-forward?

And I don’t really consider the rookie draft to be a thing anymore. It’s how clubs can dodgy up their list… remember the 300 game rookie called Eddie Betts? Or the rookie listed Bryce Gibbs?

Will rise out of reach imo

On my champs watch list

So what picks do we have? Collingwood second, Freo third (tied to North as priority pick, maybe)? Something like 34 & 42 at this stage?

Could be worse. Hopefully North continue to suck, and the wobblers fall off a cliff, but I doubt it.

Does this have a whiff of desperation about it?

I think there should certainly be greater consideration depending on the age bracket.

Trading in someone say 22/23 or under, it’s fine to add an extra future as ideally you are getting a 10+ year player.

Trading additional future picks for someone at 28 however, that creates space for a big hole in your list in 3-4 years time.

Nah all clubs through stuff like this out there all the time.

Collingwood lobbied hard about Sydney’s COLA and then again about the northern academies. We got Toddy because he was no longer zoned to the GWS academy areas (correct me if I’m wrong). This is standard and likely has been raised by other clubs with the AFL already

Scouting notes Coates League round 4.

Noteworthy they've thrown a NT side in now very raw but there's a Davey/Motlop that can play but BD 26/09/06 think he's a bottom age player for next year? Also Edwin Nyembo lacks nothing in athletic ablitiy plays both ends of the ground.

Cal Wilkie’s rise and comments from Riley Bev on ‘Gettable’, really highlight the fact you can get key defenders from anywhere.

Interesting enough, Wilkie is only 191cm so comparable to Jonas, Burton, McKenzie, Clurey etc. I think this highlights the importance of up field team defence to the success of your backs.

So I guess don’t spend high picks on Backs if it’s a reach. Focus on the key forwards and mids at the high end of the draft.

Obviously Melbourne’s strategy is the opposite to this. They have Lever and May as their core, both were early picks and cost the Dees a lot to get them in, with Tomlinson and Petty as the bits and pieces players. Off the top of my head, this contrasts to most of the successful sides recently - Sydney, Tigers, Cats, Collingwood, who had/have defences made up mostly of picks outside the first round.
