Fun fact: over 50 players have more goals and assists combined than Dustin Martin. Including guys like Jye Menzie, Brent Daniels and Kade Chandler.

Breaking news key forward had a few big games that skewed his averages vs some crap sides. Never happened before in the history of the AFL!

Hawkins who's next in line to Curnow and Tex kicked
  • 5 on a McCartin-less Sydney who had Nick Blakey playing KPD
  • Dined out for 8 and 5 on Zerk Thatcher who couldn't defend a Lepricorn
  • And 4 on WCE.

His other 13 games have produced 23 goals at 1.7 a game... How unremarkable!

You could do this ridiculous crap for literally any Key forward in the comp.

Carlton supporters can jump and defend their man, but Curnow's figures are bloated from gorging on West Coast and he is currently the only Coleman candidate that has had 2 opportunities to do so. That is a fact.

I have never even suggested Hawkins as deserving of AA ahead of Curnow, but Charlie isn't the standout you believe.

Personally I would have Tex Walker ahead of him. Overall 7 goals behind but played 1 less game and only 1 against WCE.

Tex has had 6 games with 4 goals or more while Charlie has had only 4.
Tex has also done it against multiple finals contenders.

..... an alien spaceship has arrived and they have challenged us to a game of AFL. If we lose, theyll steal our women and children and destroy our breweries.
Do you pick Dusty in our team?

We all know the GOAT is first picked….

The AA team has always been a joke …. Kane Cornes is a selector FFS.

Here’s a pic of Dusty shortly after he missed AA selection in 2019….

Lol, terrible ****ing example

That medal was one of the biggest travesties in modern times

He wasn't in the best 5 players in that game despite being gifted the medal

Yea how many of them average more than 20 possessions
Not really relevant for a forward. They'll shoehorn a midfielder on a flank (probably Petracca) and then pick 3 tall forwards (most likely Curnow, Walker and then either Hawkins or Daniher), Greene and then one more small or medium forward. Izak Rankine, Charlie Cameron and Kyle Langford the three most likely.

Most likely the Half Forwards will be Petracca and Rozee. Both average over 25 touches and a goal per game. One of Dusty or Bolton, who ever finishes stronger will get in to the squad. But highly unlikely to get in to the 22.

You do realise Tex also kicked 10 against the Eagles right?

It's also funny because if Curnow had only kicked 3 goals against them you'd be using that as an argument as well. "Can't even kick a bag against a ressies level side".

He was kicking points, as was Mckay. We had one of the worst goal kicking accuracies of any team in the competition and struggled to score because of it.

He's had 20 more shots on goal than the next best so to act as if all his scores have been beating up on WCE is simply laughable.
No doubt he is a very talented forward, and is certainly in AA consideration, and with McKay out strangely this could help him. However I think both times he has played against the Eagles, McGovern and their lockdown fullback Barrass did not play. So not surprising he has scored 19 odd goals against the Eagles in two matches.
I would be interested to see how many goals/shots he has on good KPD. I recall he kicked one on Payne and that was really when Lester was briefly marking Charlie. Will be a keen contest against Moore this week.

Barrass played the first, Oscar Allen played on him in the 2nd half after a disastrous half on Brady Hough.

Kicks plenty on Moore every time they play, Moore can't defend 1 on 1 so thats not a measure imo.

See how he goes vs Sam Taylor in round 24 who he's generally broke even with when they've played but in my opinion the best measure for any KPF.

I think Buddy should return his 2017 Coleman. Beat up on an awful Carlton team kicking 10 goals in the last round of the season to snatch it from Josh Kennedy. Cant kick goals on rubbish teams its unfair!
Yeah but Josh Kennedy also cleaned up against your team that year

In fact Kennedy kicked 6 in his game v Carlton & Buddy kicked 11 in two game v Carlton

So Kennedy actually averaged more goals per game v Carlton that year

I don't think Dusty will make the team or squad.

Taranto should be a lock in the team. Best two-way runner in the league. 30+ per week, 7 tackles, 7 clearances and a goal per game. Pretty exceptional numbers. Only Petracca has kicked more goals as a mid and he's been spending alot more time forward.

Balta may well make the squad. Leading the comp in intercept marks, 2nd for intercept possessions and 3rd for contested marks, 6th for rebound 50s.

Yes my bad, Barrass did play, but I vaguely remember Rotham spending time on Charlie. Perhaps Barrass was taking McKay.

Even though has played patches as a back, don't really rate Allen as a back, fine young forward when fit, did nothing against Payne a few weeks back (but hey their mids suck).

Agree with you regarding Taylor, is probably the current benchmark and that upcoming game in R24, could see who makes the finals.
Like Andrews, Moore is probably more the intercepting type, but believe he likely gets the match up this week on Charlie, will be a good contest as Moore, like Andrews is still competent 1 v 1. In our favour has been the dramatic rise of Payne as the true lockdown and that has allowed Andrews to do what he does best.

IMO Charlie is very likely named in the actual AA team, and I don't believe it would be too controversial. Genuine wingers not getting picked might be the talking point.

Well I was updating this anyway and it's relevant to this discussion.

Round 19 Update

Excluding games against the 3 easiest teams to score against (WCE, Hawthorn and NM - sorted by %), the averages for the main tall forwards are:

1. Hawkins: 14 games, 34 goals (2.43 pg), 14 assists (1.00 pg) = 3.43 goal contributions per game

2. Walker: 14 games, 37 goals (2.64 pg), 8 assists (0.57 pg) = 3.21 goal contributions per game

3. Curnow: 13 games, 31 goals (2.38 pg), 8 assists (0.62 pg) = 3.00 goal contributions per game

4. Lewis: 10 games, 22 goals (2.22 pg), 7 assists (0.70 pg) = 2.92 goal contributions per game

5. Daniher: 14 games, 33 goals (2.36 pg), 7 assists (0.50 pg) = 2.86 goal contributions per game
5. Cameron: 14 games, 32 goals (2.29 pg), 8 assists (0.57 pg) = 2.86 goal contributions per game
5. Larkey: 14 games, 36 goals (2.57 pg), 4 assists (0.29 pg) = 2.86 goal contributions per game

8. Naughton: 15 games, 28 goals (1.87 pg), 14 assists (0.93 pg) = 2.80 goal contributions per game

9. Jack Lukosius: 15 games, 29 goals (1.93 pg), 11 assists (0.73 pg) = 2.66 goal contributions per game

10. Allen: 16 games, 37 goals (2.31 pg), 4 assists (0.25 pg) = 2.56 goal contributions per game

11. Finlayson: 12 games, 19 goals (1.58 pg), 11 assists (0.92 pg) = 2.50 goal contributions per game

12. Hipwood: 14 games, 21 goals (1.50 pg), 12 assists (0.86 pg) = 2.36 goal contributions per game

13. Miochek: 13 games, 28 goals (2.15 pg), 2 assists (0.15 pg) = 2.30 goal contributions per game

14. Ben King: 14 games, 22 goals (1.57 pg), 4 assists (0.29 pg) = 1.86 goal contributions per game

FWIW I would still pick Curnow first, then Walker, then Hawkins.

Charlie is in AA consideration?? HAHAHAHA!! what a classic...

Yes I am aware that Tex kicked 10 against the Eagles.

I also pointed out he has done better against the contending sides.

yep not only that, reckon he makes the actual team and deservedly so, but to add a little context 19 of his 61 goals have come against one of the worst AFL sides in recent memory.
Take out the second West Coast game and he's leading or near the top of nearly every relevant metric for KPFs.

Compared against all KPFs with 30 or more goals this season, rounds 1 to 18, Curnow is (by averages):
2nd for goals
1st for scoring shots
1st for score involvements
3rd for disposals
7th for goal assists
1st for marks
1st for contested marks
2nd for marks on lead
2nd for marks inside 50
2nd for contested one v one win percentage
1st for score involvements
1st for AFL rating points

Include the second WC game and he jumps to first for goals as well.

He’s locked in mate. Clear as day this bloke is trolling.
