love him but i think he's done as captain. Needs to be able to be dropped.

That’s the issue, you don’t see many team captains dropped for the betterment of the team, it shows a lack of faith in the leadership structure if your captain is being asked to play in the magoos half the time.

Bottom line is Jack Z can't be captain in 2023. Sure, he's been a great serpent of the club but he's now borderline in our Top 22. And in my book, that ain't captaincy material.
He has been a great serpent? I'm not sure what that means.:D

LDU just said on the news that Jy and Lmac are the front runners for captain, then some follow up about Ziebell if he decides to go for it.

Could it be co-captains?

I may be different from everyone else here, but I hope it's Lmac.

I think co captains is a decent chance for us

Jy and Lmac
LDU the smokie pending player votes

Don't think Alastair is a fan of the co-captains thing.

I vaguely remember comments from him in the news around the time the Hawks switched from Sam Mitchell to Luke Hodge about needing one clear leadership voice from your Captain.

Also worth noting; Mitchell played at the Hawks for another six years after passing the Captaincy on to Hodge. So Clarkson clearly has no issues about the Captaincy moving on to a younger players while the previous captain remains on the playing list.

My money's on Jy.

With a leadership group of LDU, McDonald, Corr, and Zurhaar.

Jack Ziebell has made the decision to step down as North Melbourne captain, after six years and 111 games in charge.

Ziebell took over the role from fellow tough nut Andrew Swallow prior to the 2017 season and not only celebrated his 250th game as a Kangaroo in 2022 but also rose to third place on the rankings for games played as Kangaroos captain, surpassing Adam Simpson.

The 31-year-old informed his teammates on Tuesday that he would be stepping aside.

The club's longest-serving captain since Wayne Carey (1993-2001), Ziebell served as a leader of the highest quality and one that personified the Shinboner Spirit.

Testament to how he conducted himself upon his arrival at North Melbourne in late 2008, Ziebell was elevated into the club’s leadership group at the age of just 21, and tipped by many as a future captain as he grew into his career.

During his fifth year as captain, a shift into defence in 2021 away from his usual role as a forward/midfielder saw Ziebell rise to a new challenge as a rebounding defender, setting the standard from week to week behind the ball. While learning a new position, he broke the club record for rebound 50s in a season (152), adding to his impressive resume as a footballer.

A determined and fearless player with the tendency to sacrifice his body for the betterment of his side, Ziebell will always be recognised as one of the Kangaroos' most influential skippers.

“It’s been an absolute privilege to lead the North Melbourne Football Club for six seasons, a club that means so much to me and my family,” Ziebell said.

“The captaincy has been an unbelievably rewarding role, I feel lucky to have been given the opportunity and I’m a better person for the experience.

“Now that I’ve reached the later stages of my career the time has come for me to hand over the reins. I’ll be there to support the next captain in any way I can and I have no doubt the incoming captain will lead our club with purpose and passion."

The club will now begin a process to appoint the 2023 leadership group
