Ben McKay to the Bombers (Cal Twomey and Mitch Cleary)

I'm still of the belief we need to trade in a big bodied inside mid. There have been a few suggested here yet nearly all of them are met with the same negativity. "Nah, he's no good." "Can't get a game where is is now, why would we want him, with more & more like this.
I have no doubt those on the GWS board were saying similar things about Toby Bedford 12 months ago. Look how that turned out.
We have to accept the fact that the recruiting staff know 200% more about these fringe players than we do. They actually watch them play unlike 99% of the people who tell us that they're no good.
If we do go for a hail Mary with someone like Dow, Stephens or Brodie, I'll have a lot more confidence in their decicson than those here.

Is "big-bodied" code for getting first hands on the ball and getting it away cleanly? He will need a reasonable centre of gravity etc to be able to do that but Neale for instance is hardly big, though Oliver is 87kg. I'm not against getting a big'un or two in there as long as we don't lose sight of why.

I feel we're more likely to go hard on someone like Ainsworth. Talented player but not the type our list needs

We need to replace Kennedy. Have missed him more than anyone would have thought.
Our midfield looked like boys compared to Geelong in last year's GF.
Imagine where we would be now if we had a Bont, Cripps, Dangerfield (at his peak), Green or similar.

I have wondered more than once whether we should have tried Gould in that role. In the past Rampe was suggested. Francis was thought of in his draft year. I'm betting WCE intend to run Curtin through the mids, not in defence
My pick from this year's draft for that would be Caddy, but I doubt we'll get near him.

Our pick trade with the Hawks last year isn’t looking quite so good anymore given how far those picks are going to slide

That’s the danger of trading for future picks

I think the deal was good on paper but we needed the high end quality hit. My preferred trade was our first 2 and something late for the 3 GWS held. Instead we took 1.

We've really burned some high-ish picks over the last decade....

Shiel is past it in my opinion. He's best days were when he was a giant.

On SM-A515F using BigFooty.com mobile app
Then he's never had any "best days" in my opinion. Always been a lot more show pony than work horse.
Don't reckon he'd be in Giants best 22 these days, Kingsley demands more than I've ever seen him give.

It's all relative, barring priority picks, the pick slides are due to father son and academy selections, who arnt really in the same open draft pool to begin with. The pick more or less remains in the same order as the players in the open draft not already aligned with clubs

Looking likely KPD depth will allude us once again.

Very frustrating.
McCartin, Rampe, Melican, Francis, Arnold, Fox at a stretch, Edwards.

McCartin and Rampe are proven A grade. Melican at his best too, and showed signs he was getting back there this year. Francis solid down back this year, unlucky to be dropped IMO.
Arnold has a very good rep in the VFL as someone who could have gotten chances if not for being in Brisbane.

Plus draft O'sullivan if we can with the highest pick we can mange to get to phase into Rampe/Francis/Fox's spot as they get older.

That is plenty of depth, and options.

I doubt Wines would be gettable and if so would cost too much in both salary and picks. I think we'll go down the "moneyball" path with this selection.

Inside mid moneyball players:
Lyon
Robertson
Dow
Reef Mcinnes
Finlay Macrae
Brodie
Constable
William Drew

And free agency compensation picks

We came into this season with 7 KPDs plus Fox. We know how that went at times. The list above is even less (-1).

Drafting a KPD is necessary I agree (maintains numbers). But I think getting in another via trade or rookie/SSP a mature ager is needed. Everyone has question marks over injury and form, so I reckon 8 plus Fox.

Rumours on the player swap between Bombers & Saints continue to grow. Shiel to Saints & Gresham to Bombers. With some salary shenanigans with Gresham to trigger Band 1 compo. Whether AFL signoff on it or not remains to be seen.

By the time this is all done our pick 11 will be somewhere around 18 #jokingnotjoking
This is rorting at its best. If they get away with that scenario, we must do the Grundy suggestion posted by free agent.

I'm assuming it is all tripe though.
