Will saints really get both Dow and Shiel? Seems to be a strange midfield acquisition strategy….. basically haven’t developed a top tier mid since Lenny?
As LP1 says, they have Phillipou in the works and he's coming along nicely from all accounts. Its an interesting deal & I'm curious if AFL will allow it but it seems to have travelled a fair way down the path at this point. More importantly, will they allow that type of deal to continue in the future.

Yeah you know my thoughts on these deals I don't feel they should be allowed but clubs are fine to do it in the meantime.

Sinclair transitioned this year from a HBF to a genuine onballer too, you will see Phillipou go in the middle some part next year. These mature bodies will just help this process.

Based on the past 24hrs, many here would give Logan a life contract if they could. 8 years for a player like Naughton is good business IMO.
The only part of 8 years I get is the impending birth of Tasmania. Clubs may look to extend deals past their debut year.

Brodie , if you are reading this you won't be depth at Sydney you will be our number one ruck.
If Brodie is worried about Ladhams, we’ll, we have a problem.

He shouldn't be Ladhams won't play anyway. He'll be the backup, needs to prove himself both on and off the field next year that's all i'll say.

I think he will end up staying. I hope he does. He can go down as the greatest Demon ever. Not that I care. I just don't want him at Adelaide 😂

Is it just me or are people overrating how close Adelaide are to being a contender? Every one of their top players had outstanding years not as if they can improve that much. Where are they jumping from 9th to lets say 4th (you need to be top 4 to win).

I just don't see it

I enjoyed what someone on the saints board wrote:

My sources on the ground (I'm yet to hear from the ones in the air) are telling me Dougal Howard is refusing to go and has handcuffed himself to one of the bins in the RSEA complex. Unfortunately for Dougal it's just a regular bin that isn't bolted down, but nobody has the heart to tell him.

The Gresham trade has stalled as the Bombers have baulked at Jade's ongoing eyebrow maintenance costs.

Jack Billings was asked about his future and his response put the interviewer to sleep.

Zac Jones jumped for joy when he was offered a new contract but tore his quad upon landing

Who said I think Adelaide will be a contender? I just don't like them especially after that Dawson trade. A bit salty haha.

I highly doubt we are in the running but admire your super optimism.

In the meantime this would have no impact, this trade period is all about obtaining depth, our bad run of injuries this year showed just how vulnerable we are without it. Free agents are a free swing who in this case cost us nothing in draft capital and probs not too much coin.
This.

We have 3 major outstanding list issues.
1. Ruck. Solved with Grundy.
2. KPD. Somewhat solved with Hamling. Not ideal but the best we could get now.
3. The getting our hands on the ball first. Maybe Grundy will solve this issue too along with another preseason for our relatively young midfild.

Back to Ticky's post. We got smashed in the VFL this year because our side is very young. Getting in Jordon and other experienced players will shelter our side as our young VFL side matures to offer better competition to our established best 22. These players offer experienced depth to our best 22 as well.

Still a draft the best and trade for need strategy that has served us well for so long.

Wasn’t talking you just in general every man and his pet is thinking they are contenders. They aren’t.

Ahh right, my bad. They look like they are going to be a good side. But I wouldn't call them contenders just yet.

Would not shock to see them go backwards before going forward they get a harder draw next season

Interesting that the Swans have been mentioned as a club who were coming hard at Naughton forcing the Dogs to offer the 8 year deal. Again, we have helped push a player's contract higher. However, if true, the inference is that we have the ability to absorb a long-term contract on big money.

Well we did just lose Bud plus Paddy was unexpected

Based on my info - what they signed him for pretty much matches what we were offering.
