Well when referring to Gov clones it could be entailing a whole range of things. Prodigious talent, poor professionalism early days, extremely prone to injuries, half way between soft and courageous depending on the day, bit of a campaigner too. He's been a bit of an enigma.

If you said clone of Walsh for example I'd have no doubts about anything off field or professionalism wise.

You could make all of those assertions or comparisons, but my comparison is purely a football sense

Think WITG has a point here. I don’t see a McGov/Moir obvious link. McGovern as suggested is many things at both ends of “the scale”. I am having trouble seeing the point of a comparison.

In regards to plenty of Backman on the list:

31: Newman
30: Docherty
29: Saad, Williams, McGovern

Got to start looking at replacements eventually

Not too worried about the backline just yet. I would say those guys still have 40+ games in them and that should be enough time for Cowan, Kemp and Boyd to transition in. Campo boys are more flankers than true midfielders imo.

A developing KPD would be nice. I am still hopeful Young can hold down FB but at 24 it’s time to start being that player.

That's okay, we normally see it similarly but i see it differently in regards to Moir/Gov and some will just always see it differently just for the sake of it😉

Marchbank, Kemp, Cowan, Cincotta, Lucas Camporeale, Young, Durdin, Weitering, Boyd

Not sure why people keep adding Doc as a defender

He's played 90% of his games there?

We definitely need some developing backmen

Doc hasn't played there for most of the 2nd half of last year

Let's look at it by position, moving forward

Boyd Weitering Kemp/Marchbank
Cowan Young/Durdin Cincotta

7th defender Lucas Camporeale

Doesn't look too bad

I also wouldn't be surprised if we'd earmarked Duffy to develop in a half back role, so his injury may well have thrown a spanner in the works.

As an aside, when we sign him onto the list next year, at least we know it'll be as a Cat B. Big Dom will have to be upgraded the end of 2024 if we choose to keep him on, but it'll free up a spot on the Cat B list.

Because I think it’s important to hitch a sail to the mast, my learned observation from watching two minutes of highlights of the draftees linked to us is that I would select Cooper Simpson. I couldn’t possibly be wrong! Anyway… that’s just for the record.

My personal highlight of the night will be seeing so many Tassie boys get drafted. You can be assured that according to at least one prominent poster around here, none of them will want to go back, because Hobart is a massive hole and no one wants to live there. In that case, I will look forward to following their careers with the established mainland clubs, all the while wishing that my loungeroom was located somewhere around the Channel or Huon region.

All the Tassie boys are being drafted out of the north of the state, so I’m sure they would all concur that Hobart is a massive hole and none of them would want to move there to play footy. Or at least that’s what I’m duty bound to say as a proudly adopted Launcestonian.

What was clear to me from Agresta's interview is we're definitely targeting a forward impact player with one of our picks. Mentioned that earlier in the year when we were in our slump we were looking at names like Reid, Watson, Duursma. Then confirming Moir, Collard and Edwards are around our mix later in the interview.

I could live with a combo of Moir and M.Edwards as picks but would much prefer Collard and Schoenmaker of players around our picks if both were available. Edwards is a gun player, but personally just don't think a developing ruck is a massive need depending on how the club rates HOK and Mirkov. He projects as a potentially Gawn or English level ruck though so wouldn't be complaining, has huge upside and would be close to the most complete young ruck to come through in a fair few years. E.Read higher rated due to his versatility but Edwards the better pure ruck imo.

Moir is the one that raises eyebrows though... Last year he was seen as the next mercurial Isaac Heeney type player we would have been desperate to get. This year he scarred me with his champs performances. He was horrendous around the contest and looked afraid of contact throughout. I've never had any issues with my hip so I don't know how much his could have effected him during the champs but his positioning around the ball, ability to break tackles, overhead marking and agility was all just yuck. Still had lovely skills via foot but a lot of the rest of his game was very off putting. Have to back in Austin and co if they are across his injury issues and are expecting him to become that mercurial player he was seen as last year but I have huge doubts.

Schoenmaker, Roberts, Simpson, Lual etc are all clearly just outside run and class by foot types. Won't be too fussed with which one we pick, my preference would be Schoenmaker then Lual though. Lual played some fantastic lock down roles through the champs and with our plethora of half back options I think he'd fit in the best in our back 6 given his defensive game. Schoenmaker is the biggest offensive weapon of the group and imo could replace Kemp or Mcgovern down back to unleash them further afield in time which could massively benefit us long term.

Don't imagine we'll have any surprises tomorrow re trading up.
Schoenmaker to me looks Matthew Watson MK2. I think he will be found out for speed/agility in the next level.

Mirkov is as good as gone imo, if he was out of contract at the end of this season he would have been cut. So bringing in another developing ruck is smart

Would love 2 out of Moir, Collard, Cooper Simpson, Edwards.

Cooper Simpson I’m very keen on. Even better that he is the ultimate professional

FWIW I think that while a comparison is useful, the cryptic approach isn't.

Arr0w the oracle is robbing the thread of the reasoned opinion of someone who has watched more of these young guys than others (ie. me).

Cowan I really like. Boyd as well who is 25. Cincotta is 26

I would really like to see us add more run from defence along with another KPP. I like DeMattia as a running HB. Simpson could play that role, Hardeman another. The one I would like and would pick is Jiath. I see major upside in this kid

If Moir is our target can we see him starting off HB? I would be very interested to see how he went in interviews. His skill level is of the highest standard. Imporessive

My question is does he have the mental toughness. There must be some reason a kid with his skill set is available near pick 30?

Doc plays wing not sure why people think he’s still a defender.

Or HF/Mid. That's were he started to play more and more later in the year.

With Acres, Hollands & Binns I can see Docherty playing across all three roles of fwd, mid, wing. He is actually a very smart and effective forward.

Bottom line with what we have, his defender days are all but over and we have the players to cover

Our biggest issue is we don't have 2 or 3 Docherty's

Yes, Edwards (the WA ruck) appears to be a significant upgrade on both Mirkov and HOK.

Would take him with our first pick every day of the week, in this draft especially.

I just can't see us picking another Ruck. Would be way too many on one list. People may not rate Mirkov/O'Keefe (I do) but if the club kept them they must rate them.

Adding another Ruck to TDK Pittonet Mirkov O'Keefe Young plus Jack would be a big list imbalance

As Austin has said this year is about depth. We need depth elsewhere

It's not about rating them or not, that's an absolute thing...

This is a relative thing. To my mind Markov is next to no chance of making it, HOK who knows....

Edwards caned him when they matched up...has 5cm on him, shows more potential up forward and is seemingly a much better around the ground mark.

(that said, tough on HOK when he was always second string to Mirk)

Young & Jack aren't rucks.

Pitto's injury history must be a cause for concern too?

TdK is pre-agent end of next year?
