Pass or Match on Mike Evans?

Pass = you receive 2.07

Match = you get Evans for 3 years and the franchise tag cost of 4m is replaced with the winning bid anount of 50k
So he gets Mike Evans for $50k????? For 3 years??

Wowsa, I better check the latest on the Ridley sweepstakes...

Yeah just curious ..has that always been the case? I’ve screwed it up if it has. Mea culpa of course but I always thought the min would be the franchise cost tag. Winning bid would only apply if >tag

to clarify, he matches the 50k bid, still has to pay his salary of 4.69m also

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh so nothings chaanged then.

You party pooper, you could have let the newbies like fuey panic a bit more for a few more hours wondering what magic they needed to do to get GG.exe to give them players for 3 years for 50K.

A players salary is always a players salary.

Franchise tagging has a specific set of rules....

1) if no one bids on your tagged player, he returns to your roster for 1 year contract on his salary and the cost of the tag is applied to your cap.

2) if someone bids on your tagged player, and you pass....the player goes to the new team on a 3 yr contract on his current salary, and the winning bid is applied against the new owner. And obviously the tag cost no longer appllies.

3) if you decide to match....you get the player back on 3 yr contract, on his salary, but the tag cost is replaced by the winning bid amount.

So....the cost of the tag only happens when a tagged player is never subject to a pass/match sutuation, returns to your roster on the 1 yr tag contract.

If no one bids on my Sam Darnold, he will return for 1 yr, and i cop the tag cost.

Calvin Ridley....vs....Mike Evans.....Shiny wad lucky that only i chose to bid on Evans (50k). So easy decision to match. Whereas BpG has to decide perhaps passing is better than matching....if he matches, the 8m+ winning bid amount will be applied against his cap to keep Ridley for 3 yrs. But if he passes, he gets a 1st round pick, and no cap charge.

Basically, by marching, you're decidong to take ownership of the winning bid amount.

If we dont have the new guys we have no league. Got to be thankful for FuFu and Remon. :)

That was my thought when responding, was a bit of confusion around bids and salary from both earlier so didnt want them getting confused again.

Can guarantee LennyHayes77 didnt look at the franchise tags before bidding on Ridley...first and final warning to you too mate before cap penalties.

GG.exe will have to reset timer on that auction im 99.9% sure.

So I could do a secret deal with someone else where we do a slightly skewed trade on the understanding he puts in a $50k bid on my franchise tag player that’s on a big salary ?

I get it if someone else gets him and I pass but don’t get the logic around this scenario. You’re tagging him to either retain or ensure a good pick. The price you pay should be the higher amt of the tag cost v winning bid

I look at it like its a skill, choosing the appropriate tag while not having too much over interest, getting someone to bid on them for the minimum is an art somewhat. If Shiny tagged Evans with a first he wouldnt have got a single bid for example.

Dagless bid on Kamara under similar circumstances last year and drd rejected it. Hasn't exactly worked out for drd with Kamara looking shot and now on a 3 year deal instead of just the 1 year which it would have been under the tag.

If you want to try and organise shifty deals to avoid the tag, go ahead I say, but it could potentially backfire if there is enough interest and you pay more than the tag.

There is a possibility for collusion, but itd be pretty transparent and i would come down hard on them both.

If people do their tags with thought, there zhouldbt be scope for collusion....eg....i did darnold as a ludicrous 1st so no one would be bid on him and id get him back and only cop a 1m cap cost. Shiny also thought well for Evans only a 2nd, but oddly no one bid on him like they did ridley. And obviously BpG did Ridley well seeing as he'll get a 1st for him legitimately

I can do two types of tags then in future.

1) where you put a franchise tag on them, they return to your roster for only 1 yr + cost of tag. Player doesnt go ibto auction.

2) a Restricted Tag, where player does go into auction, no tag cost, draft value placed on them, and is subject to a pass/match. So whatever the bid is. No tag cost. But what if no one bids on them? Then back to team on 3 yrs? $0 cap charge?
