Just broke out the excel spreadsheet and inserted some basic formulas.

Picking defenders are going to be bloody hard as all of them are bloody flakey but there's also so many juicy priced mids/forwards that are really hard to say No to.

For an indication - I've got Yeo at D3 and Jayden Hunt (priced $379k) at D4. Gross!

It's tough. I like Salem as I don't think his year was typical of what he can provide. I know the Demons love the ball in his hands as he's a good kick who can break through zones and congestion. He's not like... cheap, but at $653k he could save you $100k to spend elsewhere.

Hunts really interesting. A new team, surely the eagles need to get him the ball. I've thought about him. But they might struggle and I can't see outside types, especially those which don't get the ball much averaging much. Didn't score consistently at the Demons and I worry his price won't jump that highly as I feel like he will have games where he scores below his average which will push up his BE. There's a possibility you're stuck with a mid pricer and I'm bad at picking mid pricers. He had a game this year where he played 85% TOG and scored six points. I don't know how an AFL player manages to play a game for roughly 100 minutes and only rack up three handballs.

On traders latest podcast they had this to say. Listen to it on way home from work this morning.

There are four weeks of byes and the usual bye rules will be in play for all of them.

So best 18 and 3 trades per week during the byes
That's huge. Makes guys like Touk/Stewart almost must haves

This I can actually get behind. Means that with a week with only 2 teams missing, we'll have 3 trades - epic. Basically start with only 1 or 2 Geelong or GC players, and you can trade them in after that bye if there's any you like. I'm only starting with Touk and Bowes, so can't complain at all. Won't do anything for the comp overall, but at least it'll make it more fun/easier to complete your team quicker.

Wait …. You had a spreadsheet last season ????
This season. I've spent the best part of my morning putting one together. This ClickSix one looks nicer than mine.

Wait …. You had a spreadsheet last season ????
The only spreadsheet I had last season was for changes. I've learned in the past few days that I wasn't four weeks behind everyone else but four months behind.

Played SC for ages but got back into Fantasy in 2021. Was learning the ropes a bit but really struggled for cash all year, finished the team in round 23 and finished 700. Last year finished a team a week after the byes. After going through the prices, I think finishing a team this year take a few more weeks than last year.

Bargain hunting looks difficult this year, hopefully some things pop up in preseason. This is what I don't mind.

Def
ND - 770
Caleb Daniel - 770k
Training in the midfield.
Ed Richards - 650k 91 average in last 6 games (exluding diabolical final) and barely got a kick in. I suspect he gets some of Daniels.
McKenna - 370k. Lock

Midfield
Sam Berry 760k. - Prefer him to Green. Robin to Laird, CBAs went up after the byes. Priced at 84, did 91 post bye. Maybe not enough upside but I'm struggling to find players.
Worpel 460k. - Worrying but shouldnt have a difficult path to get those CBAs
Stephens 390k - CBAs? Him and Worpel cant play elsewhere.

Fwd
I think its take your pick here really. Dunkley, Taranto, Rozee and to a lesser extend, Butters, Moore and DC. Throw in McLean for 400k.

Also has Meek in the rucks who should be number one at Hawthorn
Young from Freo is a defender I'm liking the looks of a lot

I'm going to throw out some other names (I'm sure you've all heard of them but I've got covid, it's Christmas and I'm bored).

Defence:

Dale $797k - will he take some of Daniel's ball?

Clark $722k - I know people are fans of Young, but this guy is young and building too

Duggan $740k - averaged 102 in his last six games

Burton $704k - is this the year he finally kicks?

Midfield:

Hopper - yeah yeah this may be a Homer call, but he'll play a lot of midfield minutes. Richmond's midfield this year was Prestia, Cotchin, Bolton and...

Hunter - this guy averaged 105.4 in 2018. I know that's ages ago, but he can score and surely Melbourne traded for him to give him a prime role. Doesn't need to get a lot of inside ball to score.

Anderson - Is this the year he makes the leap?

Gaff - Averaged 111 in 2019. Still only 30.

Acres - same argument as Hunter but he doesn't have as many runs on the board. Carlton are looking to spread their midfield load and get some class into their team.

Cerra - I reckon he'll either suffer from Walsh's absence early on with the added attention and the team struggles, or gets more ball with a more prominent attention. Again, like Acres I think the blues see him as a good footballer with good skills.

Morrison - No Mitchell or O'Meara.

Serong - Increased his average every year he's been in the competition. Scored 118 and 122 in the two finals this year. High draft pick and I think he's really highly rated by Freo.

Newcombe - No Mitchell or O'Meara.

With Berry, how many third players make the leap from scoring low-mid 80s to 100s (honest question but I feel like it's not that many)? I feel like at his price he needs to be scoring 95+ to justify not going premiums and rookies. I do like him though; gets a lot of tackles. But he isn't a goalscorer.

My thoughts.

Dale and Richards I think become the half backs at dogs. Daniel probably moves up field or wing.

Clark solid but can’t see him going a huge deal more

Duggan I’d avoid. Will score about the same as last year just had a nice finish to the year

Burton same as Duggan

Don’t think hopper goes above 95ish, he’s just never really been a great fantasy player

Im unsure on Hunter

I think Anderson can go big this year. Has all the tools

Gaff scored well to our slow ball movement gameplan. Doesn’t get the chips in the backline anymore. He was injured a lot of last year so I’d imagine we might see a bump but I doubt it’s enough to warrant starting him. Maybe more draft relevant

Acres too injury prone for me

Cerra I think excels with no Walsh. He seemed to excel in the games last year where blues had someone missing like a Walsh or hewett. Saw more inside time that way. Definitely prone to attention and crumbles with it

I don’t rate Morrison as a fantasy type. Pure wing and hawks wingers don’t do enough

Serong fourth year breakout? I’d be all over him if they didn’t recruit JOM but that has me a little hesitant

Newcombe I am all over. Anderson, Serong, Newcombe, T Greeb are all young mids who I think can take the next step

I rate Berry as a player but few Brisbane posters seem to think his shoulder can’t handle too much inside time which is why he doesn’t regularly see it. Think Dunkley inclusion hampers that as well. If you’re talking about Berry from crows then I don’t think his tackle count is sustainable. It’s bloody enormous but can see the merit in choosing him since he’s young and theoretically has upside if he can just tick over a few more possies each game

Good analysis, agree with most of this. Just a heads up I think Richo83 was referring to the Adelaide Berry (ie Sam) not the Brisbane variety

Wasn’t for football reasons though right?

His stop, take a few minutes to assess the options, then kick a pie floater 20m to a nest of opposition players wasn't particularly helpful......

Wait I thought it was Hunter we were talking about, not McComb?
