I doubt Cincotta gets a game soon. He was competing with Cowan and they went the youngster who I think they’ll give a decent opportunity to before they contemplate a change. The other way would be more likely to be a quick change. Dump the old bloke for the kid.

I’d go McVee for same purpose you’re looking for if he’s named. People will fade I think but he’s not playing on Dusty every week and Melbourne will win a lot and chip around the backline in junk time.

This will suck if it happens. Think I’ll choose to restructure with 2 top 6 plus daicos and yeo if so as suddenly the def rookies won’t look so appealing (then constable and ginbey with Cowan Wimot on bench)

Don’t love the idea of another of those premiums without value but may be necessary just for structure

Versus an outside wingman versus RICH .....IMO Phillips the inside mid, laying tackles, is the better option

Phillipou didn't do anything for 3/4 ....then had a purple patch in one Qtr .....how many expensive Rookies actually workout each season ? .....not many generally

Surely you don't go into Round 1 inetionally with a red dot that you can avoid.

I think you absolutely can in the rucks. Say for example there’s a $200k ruck that’s going to play and average 30-40. That’s a VERY slow burn that will make you very little cash. A red dot on the other hand can gain you a stack of points if it enables you to lock in a monster VC score in the first couple of rounds. I wouldn’t do it on any other line but I think in the rucks it’s a viable strategy even if we do get a bench ruck named.

Selby made a similar point on his podcast recently in regards to

Selecting a red dot R3 who generally plays later on in the round (Heath)

His view was the latter was smarter. Becomes more of an argument the other if the playing R3 is likely to score well (like Flynn a few years ago).

Well that's why I said "that you can avoid".
