Luke McDonald might be worth a watch too.

For the love of god please don't make me pick that idiot again:sick:
You know you will be hating your self when Hall goes 125 Ziebell 110 McDonald 100 as North are pumelled by 100 points most weeks

Gee if Ziebell is playing defence in a team that will apparently be constantly switching the ball, it's gonna be hard to ignore him given how many points they'll all rack up.

Putting him in my side and shifting Dunks to the mids while going lighter in defence, makes the side look better too...still very unsure about 4 or 5 positions though:

Any words on this? Kind of wanting to go full risk this year.

With Blakey going down .....Lloyd is a possibility

Cunnington is more a SC player & less a Fantasy option IMO

Fin Macrae still in rehab for a back complaint

Guilen a watch if he plays WING this year ....but more at F3

If you're going to have Ashcroft / Phillips / Hewitt ....they have to be on-field IMO

I think Cunnington is flying under the radar a bit

Averaged 99 in 2021. Good preseason, won’t get tagged and big tackler. Grabbing a full time inside mid in the forward line priced at 75 is value I think. Especially as he’s done it before.

I agree all points ....I'd just prefer he was priced a bit lower ....32 YO and a history where the 80-85 ave is most likely, makes his upside at 10 points, if we're thinking conservatively

Yep for sure and agree. From past seasons, the competition winning picks have been players significantly increasing their CBA's.

2022 - Brodie, Smith, Hewett
2021 - Parish, Brayshaw, Petracca, Keays, Mills
2020 - Guthrie
2019 - Worpel.

I'm sure there's others. therefore who are the players who had low CBA's that will be become mainstay midfielders in 2023 and mid-pricers?

Cunnington, Butters, Ward, Sheed, Perkins (maybe).

I prefer these types of players rather than those who have already had the CBA's and you're relying on natural progression.

Just a question of whether you start them or not. Can jump on them sure, but if you have other issues in your team it can be difficult.

Haha I should’ve been less vocal about Ziebell.

That being said I like this a lot. Only 4 differences in the 22:
Doch -> Young
McKenna -> Constable/Coffield
Green -> Kelly
Drury -> Weddle (through some DPP)

Don't worry, haha, I was already monitoring Ziebell after it was reported that Clarko was going with a possession game plan in the back half - and Ziebell was heading back there. Don't think too many will be keeping tabs on him, so he's a really interesting pick if he has that role back again where he absolutely dominated not two seasons ago.

Priced at 60 and went at 100 last time he played that role, and his coach is playing a back half possession game plan...ticks a lot of boxes, IMO.

Re: the rest of our side, McKenna and Coffield pretty much cancel each other out (Constable doesn't even enter the convo for mine), Green and Kelly could be much of a muchness given the Richmond'esque style they'll play but Kelly should still have him covered given his outside ability, and Drury and Weddle should be similar too. Only main difference then is Doch and Young, where I see Doch comfortably covering Young by at least 10 points.

Really is though, that you've got your uber mid underpriced premo and breakout hopefully in Kelly and Young, and I've got my uber def premo and breakout hopeful in Green and Doch. Not much in that at all, and could easily go either way :)

I'm skeptical about how long this possession style game from North will last.

They were doing that under Noble (when Ziebell and Hall were racking it up) and still regularly losing by 100 points.

Clarko is a stubborn guy though. If he thinks this 'whirlpool' style will disrupt oppo zones, then he'll go with it. Noble had them playing a gamestyle that even he didn't quite understand, so I feel that North will probably achieve more knowing exactly what the reasoning behind this gamestyle is.

Could change throughout the season, but I doubt it - given how much Clarko will want to insulate his team from big losses/control the play as his teams have done in the past. I get a bit of a Geelong 2017-2021 vibe from what he's doing...but still too early to tell, IMO.

A lot of risk there, but some picks I really like. For starters though, Sinn, Chesser, Salem and Fin Macrae, all unlikely to play Round 1 at this stage, from all reports.

For mine, Ashcroft needs to be on field...like you don't even think about that given what he's capable of. Keays is rumoured to be playing forward at times during sim, so he's another I'd be avoiding. Gulden I'm unsure about, but you never know. D. Cameron and Grundy is an interesting ruck setup, but Cox and Gawn are serious problems for them both.

If I were you, I'd nerf Keays and then put Ashcroft on field and someone like a Johnson placeholder type on the bench (662K remaining). Do the same with Chesser and put Ginbey on field, and maybe Cowan on the bench (620K remaining). Drop Salem to a Hunt/Mckenna/Coffield type (around 900K remaining). Upgrade Fin Macrae up forward to Dunkley (around 270K remaining), then Gulden to say Taranto (160 remaining), and finally Sinn to McLean (if you've got enough -an extra 8K or so).

Would give you:

DEF: Lloyd, H. Young, N. Daicos, Yeo, Hunt (for example), Ginbey (Cowan, Wilmot)

MID: Zerrett, J. Macrae, Jelly, Serong, Worpel, Ashcroft, E. Hewett, W. Phillips (Dowling, M. Johnson)

RUC: Grundy, D. Cameron (J. Edwards)

FWD: Dunkley, Taranto, Butters, Cunnington, McLean, Pedlar (C. Harvey, Van Rooyen)

UTL: O'Hara

*********************

Still risky and a fair few PODS (Lloyd, Zerrett, Grundy, Jelly, Serong, Cunnington, Butters, H. Young), but far less so and most players on field guaranteed to play Round 1 :)

P.S. order players by price in future too, as it makes it easier for us to discern who's in your team - and it'll stop TedDougChris from chasing you in the night :tearsofjoy:

Yeah pretty even. Interestingly Green hasn’t entered my calculations all preseason - not sure there was a big correlation between his CBAs and high scoring games. If he’s developed an outside game I’d consider, but I do feel as though he’ll be capped at an optimistic 95 until he has that.

For now I see the gap between him and Kelly being practically the same as the gap between Doch and Young - much of a muchness really. If Kelly’s CBAs are above 65% then he is a must have imo

Despite this talk of whirlpools, I wouldn't be getting too excited about Clarko's game plan from a Ziebell Fantasy POV. From the match sim I've seen it has been based around overlap run from defence rather than chipping around or through a zone. He'll start round 1 but I'm not even sure Jack will hold his spot as we need more runners back there.

That said, I don't really know the game plan is. Or how it will stack up against a real opponent. Need to see some practice games.

Was playing around last night and did something pretty cool...Don't ask me how I did it, but I got Ziebell up to Young, with only English going down to Witts - looks pretty damn solid overall now:

Fairly similar to mine I think except I've gone someone else in midfield + Milera instead of Worpel & Cogs.

I really like this setup, because Ginbey in the mids is my preferred place for him at this point - as it gives me max flexibility with my team. If Mackenzie and one of Cowan or Weddle play, then I can shift Ginbey back and downgrade Hunt to Weddle and place Mackenzie in the mids. If both Cowan and Weddle play, I can take the extra 100K and use it to keep one of them on the bench and then have a bit more spare cash if I need it.

Definitely most optimal setup thus far :)
