Not sure about that one ,can I phone a friend?Might make sense if it was fixtured fairly, with two teams coming off a bye ...
Instead we have Premiers off a bye against the (2022, when the fixture was created) 11th placed team off their third successive 6 day break. Now, which one is the Victorian team?
Its not really. As the ladder now stands we play:The rest of the season fixtures for port is very hard , like we finished 11th last year , pathetic fixturing

Only 3 current top 8 teams. Perception v Reality.
Only Norf and West Coast are lay downs. Apart from our first half against them, Hawthorn have been pretty competitive. So I don't actually see much difference between 5th and 16th at the moment. All are capable.I guess , just annoying we got no walk overs as double ups

We are going to have an off game or even an off patch, but at the moment I have a level of confidence in all those games.3 of our remaining 4 away trips are very difficult - Essendon, Geelong and Fremantle. We should be able to take care of Carlton away.
That leaves home assignments against Adelaide, Giants, SUNS, Richmond and Collingwood.
The most negative possible assessment would have us dropping all 3 of those tough away games plus Adelaide and Collingwood at home - and even that still gets us to 16-7 which is certain top 4. We probably only have to pick off a couple of those more challenging games to get top 2.
Freo have lost at home to North and Richmond this year. Geelong have lost at home to GWS. If we're on we'll smash both of those teams no matter where we play them.3 of our remaining 4 away trips are very difficult - Essendon, Geelong and Fremantle. We should be able to take care of Carlton away.

Good point. Apart from a 34 round season, this would be a draw with the most integrity.I don’t get it.
With 6 double-ups, the AFL could have simply split the tiers (Top, Mid, Bot).
The extra round makes sure the mandatory clashes will happen regardless.
For instance, our double-ups would have been: Richmond, Footscray, Carlton, St Kilda, Gold Coast, and West Lakes.
Good on them for getting the dates out, but releasing this info is probably not all that beneficial to many. ie. you wouldn't want to be buying accommodation in Adelaide and then find out your team is playing all the way out in the Barossa or McLaren Vale and you'd have to be annoyed at that. Plus you'd obviously want to know are you the Thursday night game or the Sunday twilight? So really the dates wont mean much to many until the fixture is out.2024 Fixture
AFL confirms dates for Gather Round 2024
Gather Round in 2024 will be held in round four of the seasonwww.afl.com.au
The AFL in partnership with the SA Government is pleased to announce ‘Gather Round…. A Festival of Footy’ will be played across Round 4 of the 2024 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.
The matches will run from Thursday 4 April through Sunday 7 April, with the fixture of matches to be announced later in the year.
After reviewing the success that was the inaugural Gather Round in 2023, Round 4 2024 was identified to enable greater fixture flexibility and greater ability to maximise interstate travel with the dates falling in the middle weekend of school holidays for Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia.
Announcing the dates early allows fans to start to book travel and accommodation ahead of the four days of matches.
Adelaide Oval will again be the centrepiece, with the regional venues and ticketing and premium event experience information to be confirmed at a later date.
Fans can register their interest in premium hospitality and experiences through the AFL’s official provider, the AFL Event Office, by visiting www.afl.com.au/eventoffice.

I mean the biggest benefit probably is to all of the tourism/activation operators that can get things planned and locked in.
Bloody hell its an hours drive from your CBD hotel for either region, its not as if its impossible to get there.Good on them for getting the dates out, but releasing this info is probably not all that beneficial to many. ie. you wouldn't want to be buying accommodation in Adelaide and then find out your team is playing all the way out in the Barossa or McLaren Vale and you'd have to be annoyed at that. Its not about football fans having 10 months to plan, its really about regional towns making a pitch to the government, assessing and picking a ground or two outside of Adelaide and planning for infrastructure improvements, planning entertainment events around the venue and also working out if Norwood gets two games or a second SANFL ground is used and what infrastructure spend is needed.Seems a long way in advance to announce but I guess some people may opt out of a summer trip for this one, cost of everything pressures and so on.

The Mayor of Norwood said next year he wants to shut down the Parade all the way to Portrush Road and having a big street party festival and attracting 100,000 people to it and not necessarily football people, like you get at the Tour Down Under start line. That takes a fair bit of lead time planning.
This is a government and the AFL. They all employ so many spin doctors they were always going to have a big press release.Ok but that doesn't require a public announcement of specific dates, especially when we already know the event is on for the next 3 years. Surely council-state govt meet on a regular basis to discuss such things.
FWIW, I hope Norwood do shutdown the Parade for this one.
I’d prefer to keep getting challenged, as there will be no easy games come finals.I guess , just annoying we got no walk overs as double ups
