How tall is he?

THE ALLIES stamped their credentials as a genuine title contender in the AFL Under 18 National Championships, after thumping Western Australia by 88 points at Thebarton Oval today. Having knocked off South Australia at the same venue last week, the multi-state collective made it two wins from as many games in the comprehensive 16.12 (108) to 2.8 (20) beating.

Dual unanswered streaks of eight goals split Western Australia’s two majors, with the Black Ducks having no answer for the Allies’ midfield dominance. Tall forwards Charlie McCormack (four goals) and Jed Walter (three) dined out, while livewire small Jack Callinan joined in on the act as the trio combined for two-thirds of their side’s score.

RMC BEST:

Allies:
R. Sanders, C. McKercher, J. Walter, C. McCormack, J. Callinan, C. O’Sullivan, E. Read

I wonder where McCormack is rated draft wise. Could be a handy pick up.

Not in any ratings that I've seen to date. Most only go to about 50 or so. I'd suggest that he'd be a likely Sproule-type speculative rookie pick-up ... unless his championships play elevates him. But he's not a robust Jed Walter-type bull KPF. I'm sure PMBangers can give a better perspective.

Looking forward to next year… I can see Fahey locking down a wing spot. He’s got a good tank and we are only just starting to see how damaging his kicking can be.
I think Jones will be very good.

Idun Taylor Whitfield
Cumming Buckley Ash
Callaghan Cogs Fahey
Greene Cadman Daniels
Bedford Hogan Jones

Briggs Kelly Green

Riccardi HH Ward Perryman/XOH

Throw in two top ten picks to add to the likes of McMullin, Gruzewski etc.

If he continues this Champs form he'll be a second round selection, his work on the lead is exceptional due to his hands and speed off the mark, but right now he's very much a 'stay at home' FF, so a big development area for him is going to be working up the ground

Is he in our academy zone? Which part. Hopefully they don't change the boundaries again.

He is in our Academy zone but I don't really know where from exactly (mostly due to laziness), I'm assuming Canberra area

Jake Barrett recruited him to Coolamon this year, he was in the Farrer league with a club north of Griffith. Riverina league is a better standard, some good players in it which is odd given the size of some of the towns and the distance to travel to matches. Not that they will get much value out of him, will probably be in our 2's for a few games now.

Love that Briggs is a local boy… we should be advertising the crap out of him. Any really big young lads who want something different to rugby codes could try out AFL.
It’s a grand old flag…! He should be the poster boy as potentially our first genuine western syd product to be a regular beat 22 player.

We started the year with 20 of our 44 players, having contracts that expire at the end of 2023.

We have now re-signed 4 of these players, including the prized signings of Tom Green, Callaghan and Buckley (and Jacob Wehr).

Of the remaining 16 players whose contract will expire this year, I think
  • we will make offers to the following 7 with Himmelberg and Ash being the priorities and drawing the interests of other clubs: Himmelberg, Ash, Ward, Flynn, O’Halloran as well as our two Cat B Rookies Gillbee and Nick Madden
  • Cut Davis and Preuss
  • Not sure about these 7 remaining players as you would think Kingsley will need to cut at least a couple more: Daniel Lloyd (rookie list - played 10 games this season), Riccardi (played 8 games), Callum Brown (played 6 games), Cooper Hamilton (played 4 games before injury), Keeffe (played 3 games), Cameron Fleeton (rookie list - played 2 games) and Derksen (rookie list - yet to debut).
Some hard decisions to be made by our club in the coming months

Davis will go out on the shoulders of Giants.
Keefe will probably call time too.
Flynn and Preuss are interesting cases, do they back themselves to get past Briggs to take back the no1 role and can we risk Preuss with his injury prone ways.
Ricca, Brown, Hamilton should all get contracts.
I like the look of Fleeton and haven't seen heaps of Derksen.
If that's 4 spots. That's our two top picks and mayyyyyybe a free agent.
Or Reid and a free agent or two.

I expect that we cut Keefe also.
Derksen is the tough one. All reports seem to be that he is dominating VFL but yet to get a gig. Perhaps they see him below AFL standard in which case he'll be moved on. Id like to see him get a game first

More praise for Briggs. The AFL world is starting to take notice of his awesome performances in the past few weeks - our clear number 1 ruck

Interview with Ash, whose contract expires this year. Comes across as pretty level headed. Says he will be meeting with his agent to decide on his future, but is very positive with Kingsley’s leadership which bodes well for staying with us. From the article, it would seem to indicate that the club hasn’t made a formal offer (unlike what we did for Himmelberg), but then again Ash asked for a delay till mid season on contract negotiations.

Everything is going really well. We said we were gonna wait until the midpoint of the year and then go from there. My manager is coming up to Sydney (this week), so we'll have a more in-depth about that and then go from there.

Last couple of weeks he’s been much better… before that his turnovers were killing us.
