2 years ago they loved him. His 2022 stats are pretty good, played 11, kicked 4 twice. I have no idea why he only played 3 games this year, they went small with Rankine and Rachele, so perhaps there was a shift in game plan that pushed him out.
He's still only 25 right?

We figured out Hogan and Riccardi (kinda)

I'd back us to turn him into a decent role player...he'll be coming into a team he know he can win in....there's nothing more motivating than that.

Does make me wonder about what Cadman and Gruzewski will be looking at in 2024

He's a more mature body ... I doubt he's a long term option ahead of those guys ... more a stop gap

I doubt we get involved.
I don't claim to know who is a good fit, there are lots of rumours about his 10 week injury.
Maybe Swans if Maclean or Papley want to go to Melbourne.

Asking for a friend, any chance mummy is open to having new tenants in his granny flat ..

Not sure there's anything I wouldn't trade, both firsts this year and next years first, Finn and Cadman as well. Wouldn't trade all of those things but some combo of that I'd be prepared to do, obviously would do my best to not include our top tier assets but if it came down to it and Oliver wanted to do it, I'd be willing to put together a package involving some of those guys. Guys like Oliver just do not come around very often and especially if for some reason he wanted to come up here would move a whole heap for him

I think if we do try to tempt Melbourne, it won't be using Finn or Cadman. We had Taranto/Hopper previously who were great inside mids. Clayton, albeit a better version of them, at the expense of Finn would at least in my opinion take us back to our one-paced, contested Leon Cameron model. Personally, his cost would be too high, both in terms of trade and salary.

We need that burst acceleration and ball use in the middle, Finn epitomises that and only starting to see the tip of the icberg with his ability. I would hold onto him at all costs. That said, Green needs support with clearance work in the middle. Finn may develop his inside game further and Cogs/Kelly can do that rover role but may mean we target Sanders if available at our pick.

Also of note, we have a hole in tall defenders (after the delisting of Fleeton) if Keefe retires and Haynes is traded/listed as a tactical sub. Leaves Leek as our only 2nd string tall defender. Maybe means Elliot Himmelberg is used as a defender in VFL and a forward in AFL but as a player that is struggling with form, can't imagine the inconsistency in position helping with that. Makes O'Sullivan very appealing in the draft too given we can develop him under the tutelage of Taylor/Bucks/Idun/HH + Haynes and a cohesive defensive system.

If we don't trade for any other players beside EH (personally still think Wicks would be a cheap role player steal since remains OOC, a rookie-listed player and already living in Sydney), any combination of 2 from Watson/Sanders/O'Sullivan/Wilson would be a sublime draft. More likely outcome we only get 1 though haha.

Personally under no circumstances would I put Finn on the trade table. But OK with the other options you put forward.

But if we were to have a chance to get Oliver we would definitely need to move Haynes so we can free up that cash.

I love Finn as much as the next guy and would of course do everything to ensure he wouldn't get moved but if it came down it I'd move him, there's a very real chance that Finn never gets near the level of player that Oliver is, when healthy this is a guy that is in the mix for the Brownlow and has already won club BNF multiple times some of those in really good performing sides, voted by the coaches twice as the best player in the competition. GWS need to see themselves as a team that can win the flag next year and Oliver would no doubt be more ready to contribute then Finn would be able to next year, we're probably 1 mid short from where we want to be and Oliver would help fix that issue. He's also only 26, there is is still 5+ years of top level play for him still to go. This is a pro Oliver post and not so much an anti-Finn post.

I assume they want a forward.
Would we offer 6 ,Riccardi for Oliver.
I don't think his trade value should be super super high because his career is more than half over.
I haven't done it yet, but I would look at Ablett, Judd, Selwood, Dangerfield, Fyfe, Martin to see what % of there career brownlow votes came in their first 8 seasons. I think about 60% of them in most cases ( ablett probably the exception).

Of our current list, his trade value would be less than Tom Greens, more than Toby due to age only.

Half over?? He's only 26, there is still so much elite footy ahead of him. If it was Riccardi, 6 and either this year's first or next year's first I'd definitely do that. We just saw in our only first year under Kingsley basically playing half a season of good footy that we can compete with all the best teams in the comp we can't be looking at this team anymore as a contender 2 or 3 years down the line, we can go out and compete for a flag next year and if that means sacrificing some picks or younger players then we have to do that. This entire comp is to win a flag and if we're not trying to do that then I'm not sure what we're doing.

I am not advocating it, but I think it would have to include a player on a decent contract to offset Oliver's incoming salary. If they agreed to take Haynes that helps a bit, but might not be enough.

Our 'long' and 'overpriced' contracts looking pretty good ATM. Cogs, Kelly, Whitfield all fired this year.

Haynes money is probably the only question mark but he's been an incredible servant to the club and I don't think his story is over just yet.
Think all of our long deals have been a successs? Think if presented with the chance to do them all again we probably would, 1.5 down years from Haynes at the end doesn't deter me too much from everything else he's delivered

You know who would be a better ruck/fwd option than Elliott Himmelberg? Rory Lobb 🥰

What Finn has over Oliver is precision kicking. Oliver is great with his hands, but his bomb kicking detracts: hence, I feel he's a tad over-rated. But we do need to replace Wardy this year or next.

Oliver has already been voted the best player in the competition by the coaches in 2 seperate seasons, if Finn ever wins one of those that'd be incredible but this is a chance to get a guy that's already done it twice and has so much good footy ahead of him. The last midfield rotation spot think has to be addressed, Ward still had plenty of solid games but was also subbed out of the prelim and looked out of place in a few others, at the moment the only avenue internally for that to be upgraded is Rowston improving pretty significantly which is not fair to expect.

Hello Giants fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Giant Strides you may like to sticky this post, move it to the start of the thread (so the sticky post doesn't rotate if a post is deleted before it).

We definitely do not need Oliver. He would detract from Tom Green. It would unbalance our midfield.
Not good for our context.
