Unofficial Preview 2023 HFC Jumper numbers

Following on from this year’s excellent initiative of having former legends or families of former legends giving the jumper numbers to players - I’d propose the following for the higher numbers:

3 - Ward - presented by Jordan Lewis who could also talk about what it meant to him to play in Lethal’s number.

7 - Newcombe - presented by fellow hard as nails player Gary Ayres. Alternate idea is Newc keeping 44 with a tribute from Plats.

10 - Amon - presented by Chance Bateman, longest ever custodian of the number 10. Re-establishes the 10 being worn by a First Nations player like Hill did after Bateman.

17 - Reeves - presented by Michael Tuck. Pretty obvious reasons why!

19 - Meek - presented by the ultimate Hawthorn big man, Jason Dunstall.

21 - CMac - presented by Richie Vandenberg.

25 - Stephens - presented by Peter Curran.

28 - Serong - present by Poppy.

I hope Newcombe stays in the 44. Platten was my fav player when I was super young so 44 has always meant alot to me and Duke is my fav now.

Would love to see him running around in it for many many years to come.

Nuke dominating crash and bash 80's style with wild, long hair in the 44 is iconic.

We all know he's worthy of 3 or any other lower number. But 44 has good history too at Hawthorn and it just feels right.

Definitely want to echo Newcombe staying in #44

Would like to see:
3 Ward
7 Reeves (seems like the most obvious one)
10 Amon
17 Meek (stick him next to Lynch in the locker room to really get the internal rivalry going for the no.2 spot)
19 Butler (I think he's shown more than Serong at this stage)
21 CMac
25 Cooper Stephens

3 Newcombe or stays in the 44
7 Reeves or Ward - Reeves makes sense but Ward looks like a 7.
10 Amon or Ward - Amon to carry on the 10 from Hill and Bateman
17 Meek
19 Serong - Third tall hopefully channels his inner Gunston
21 Stephens
25 Blank - Schoenmakers but hopefully less channeling than Serong.
Can't argue with these. The Newcombe one the most interesting because my guernsey has a 3 on it and I think I'd like it to be him.

I like giving these a go, haven't got it right yet...

3 McDonald
7 Ward
10 Amon
17 Reeves
19 Meek
21 Stephens
25 Blanck
26 Jeka
44 Newcombe

Backing McDonald to become our classiest midfielder, he has 300 games in him. I'd also like to see Newcombe in the 3, but I get the feeling he will stick with 44.
I like the quirk of having 3 rucks sitting together.

I’m not sure the Rat’s number would mean as much to Newk, as Lewis’s 3 from the three peat, but as his family are Hawks fans his old man is probably telling him to keep the 44.

I am in favour of Newcombe staying in 44. The Rat was one of my all time favourite players.
I don't even care that it's another players legacy number, Newc has had a phenomenal start in his current number and it'd be great to see him stick with it like Cyril did with 33.

This - I like some players maintaining the high number and making a career out of it. That and I think the 44 just looks great on the back of the guernsey also.

Ferg is wearing #31 in the video here ... taking over CMac's number?

Don't mind it. Both him getting 31 and CMac getting an upgrade.

But, looks like it was just something available in his size for the photo op. Was a 2022 Adidas jumper too. New players don't choose their numbers until start of pre-season
