So if the Aussies win you don’t think the best team has won the World Cup?

Not really relevant to what I’ve posted but I’ll answer the question.

The best team at the tournament has been India I think that’s fairly indisputable. If Australia wins the final, they will have earned THAT win and the trophy, fair play to them. Pakistan were miles from being the best team in 1992. They’re still the world champions from that year aren’t they.

Do you think Hawthorn was the best team in 2008? I don’t. I don’t think Geelong was the best team in 2009. Both teams did enough to give themselves a chance to earn the trophy, though, and then when that chance arose, they were good enough to take it so that’s what they ended up with and if Australia does that tomorrow then well done.

My point was totally unrelated to that, though.

This has upset Aussie win written all over it.

On another note, I liked the format of this WC, 10 teams all playing each other once.

Pity they’re changing it.

‘This is the best format, can’t be any fairer than this. Needs to stay as this format.

Aus were rolled for under 200 against India earlier in the tournament while India chased it down pretty comfortably. It will have a psychological impact on the team. Aus batters under pressure knowing early wickets exposes their slower batters in smith & labs with their hope placed on the lower order once again. Smith & Labs (if both selected) are under pressure to score at a faster rate knowing the mammoth totals India has scored.

While Aus have won 8 in a row, they haven't put in a complete performance against a reputable side. Through a combination of injuries, form & calibre of players. It's unlikely to change based on recent matches. Good luck to Australia but I wouldn't be surprised if they lose by 50+ runs or 5+ wickets.
Sounds like you're trying to convince yourself. Don't stress, Australia surely won't cause a boil over..

right?

Why a low chance? Some of you guys make it sound like India are playing a third grade pennant team. Man for man the Aussies are every bit as good as India if not better. Home ground advantage gives India the favourite title but only just. No surprise here if Australia win.

India have been the better and more consistent team in this tournament but there isn't all that much between the teams in terms of talent and experience so Australia winning wouldn't be the big upset some people here are suggesting.

It also isn't that incredible that Australia has made the final, with just 10 teams in the tournament they were always odds on to make the semi finals especially with England having a shocker and being out of contention. They then played serial chokers South Africa in the semis.

If you told people before the tournament started that the final would be India vs Australia I don't think anyone would have been surprised.

Just heard Crash Craddock on the radio.
Of the last 30 matches in this WC.
15 batting first have won.And 15 batting second have won.
So if we win the toss ,what do we do.
Bat first and try and set over 300.Then take some early Indian wickets.Just see where that can take us.

It'd be interesting to cross reference that with who won the toss too.

Cant see Australia changing their lineup too much.

The Australian test team grabbed a Draw in the test match here this season- so the players will be familiar with ground and setting.

From memory that wicket was fairly placid and offered not much help or assistance to the bowlers. Its fair play whoever wins on Sunday for me. All this talk about pitch doctoring or favouring means nudder....you play accordingly to the conditions on game day. Probably the team that makes that early adjustment or judgement will come out on top.

I don't think we've been watching the same WC.

India are on a different level to everyone else, playing in conditions entirely built to suit them.

I admire your positivity, but I don't think we'll even get close.

Happy to be surprised, obviously.

not sure how it would be a boil over? India favs as it’s in their country. This same game played in Australia and we would be the favourites.
How will one day cricket cease to exist? The ODI World Cup is far and away the biggest tournament in cricket.
you're taking the post too seriously, was making a joke that India would kill the format if we lose.

Of course it'd be a boiler-over, everyone is expecting India to win, they're flying at home.

I assumed it would be

6 group games + 3 super sixes games + the semi final = 10 games to make the final
Yeah, it is.

"Under the Super Sixes model, the 14 teams would be placed in two groups of top seven, each playing six group games. The top three teams in each pool would then progress to the Super Sixes stage, with sides carrying forward points from the first group stage. In the Super Sixes, teams would play the three other teams to qualify from the other group stage. The top four teams from the Super Sixes would then reach the semi-finals."

In that case, I'd go two groups of 8 playing seven games and then the super 6, that's a total of 11 games, same as now. If expansion is the goal, 16 teams is better than 14, covers all 16 ICC members with ODI status plus gives a few a chance to cause some upsets and qualify and eventually gain ICC status.

If Australia somehow pull this off it will surely be a contender for the country's greatest ever achievement.

Kind of good going in as massive underdogs with nothing to lose as well.
Turn it up. Sportsbet India $1.38, Aussies $2.99. And that's about right, this isn't a ****in $10 to $1 matchup, there's a reason the Indians were cheering on SA, we are the soccer Brazil of cricket, can never be written off.

Richard Illingworth and Richard Kettleborough are the umpires. Joel Wilson has somehow got the gig as Third Umpire. Hopefully he will not be required.

Most DRS related 3rd umpire decisions aren't overly difficult though. Tight run outs, stumpings and catches can be tough but at least he gets to see those in slow motion. Both on field umpires have won ICC umpire of the year on multiple occasions so let's hope the umpires have good games and aren't the talking point after the final.

Australia have rectified our poor start, yet we have not really put in a overall team performance. More relying on one or two of our stars to get us over the line. For me, Steve Smith is our biggest weakness. He has been under-performing and I see him now as pretty much a test player only. Hopefully he can lift and get the best out of himself tomorrow.
India for me, don't really have any weaknesses and they will start warm favourites and deservedly so.
The toss will be interesting, if Pat can call correctly I expect us to bat first and have a slight advantage.
If we are to win, Maxxy will have to star and Mitch Marsh needs to play well.

I sort of equate the Matildas reaching the Semi Finals of the FIFA Womens World Cup, to Australia making the Grand Final of an ODI World Cup.

Sorry I meant men's cricket specifically not the whole country, should have used the word team's greatest achievement.
