"Players who elect to bump will be held accountable for the injury they cause to an opponent"

"The AFL Commission approved of the change, which means that players who decide to bump are more likely to be suspended if the opponent they bump is concussed or injured, even if the injury is caused by a clash of heads."

Careless, High, High. 2 weeks.

What is the difference between high and medium contact?

Given Whitfield is out now he's in strife.

Discretion of the MRO and what he considers High or medium. Based on Marley's incident:

Richards suffered a concussion and was taken from Marvel Stadium to hospital following the incident in the Marsh Community Series on Friday night.

Williams was charged with engaging in rough conduct after the incident was graded as careless conduct with high impact and high contact.

Thanks.

Careless high high it is then.

Whitfield should get two weeks for putting himself in a dangerous position. At what point do we say the onus should be back on the player to protect themselves, he choose to make contact.
I think only Swallow went for that didn't he (at least, had a free paid against him for putting himself in a dangerous position).

Knew there'd be contact and braced for it.

Something about duty of care.

Chuck it in the table.
He didn't seem to deviate off his line. So the only way he could avoid the suspension is to lead with his head like Whitfield or not compete.

That could break the game.

It was a really poor attack on the footy.

I can’t believe a player as smart as him approached the footy like that.

Dog cleared over Giant KO, fines galore for melee

Contact between Western Bulldogs’ Aaron Naughton and GWS GIANTS’ Lachie Whitfield from the first quarter of Friday night’s match was assessed. The ball is loose. Naughton and Whitfield approach the ball from opposing directions and high contact is made by Naughton on Whitfield. It was the view of the MRO that Naughton was contesting the ball and his actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken.

Ok fair point.

Completely break the game.
It's moot now anyway.

He got off.

I mean the idea that it wasn't unreasonable and someone got knocked the f*** out is an interesting description.

I'd have thought Jack's actions vs Joseph of Carlton were not unreasonable but wtf would I know.

To me he was running front on at the ball and put his arms up to protect himself.

Not to bump.

Which is a side on action with the hip and shoulder.

I agree about Jack too and maybe this sort of thing will show the AFL that players bumping and protecting themselves may cause cause less head injury than players who never learn to protect themselves.
