I think DeMattia will be a great pick up, serious speed and looks tough. On the kayo stream of the draft was compared to Ed Richards which if he is anything like Ed I will be happy.

But I also feel like we have Reef, Allen, Harrison, McCreery who are all fast players are looking to play midfield. Probably not taking Nobles spot.

If we are after Smith or Holmes next year without a first I would have been happy to trade our first pick for a future first but maybe there were no calls.

I hope we go with Logan Morris with our next pick. I hope Eyre and Dean can make it but are still speculative that they can cut it AFL level.

Searching the state leagues for KPP is easier said than done. But who knows.

29 picked in the “first round” this competition is beyond a joke 😂
I don't tend to have a go at theAFL, however, to allow a club to match 4 bids in round 1, and to shower another club with 1st round picks after providing assistance in previous seasons suggests there is a real problem with where this is at.

Apparently GC will need more points to match bids on academy players again next season. There should be a limit on how many 1st round bids you can match.

As for North? Just nothing short of embarrassing.

Possible picks tonight -
30 West Coast Schoenmsker
31 Lions O Murphy
32 Geel A Roberts
33 Saints M Edwards
34 Carlton C Simpson
35 Richmond L Morris
36 Geel A Hastie or G Stevens
37 Coll A Reid or T Jiath

Other players - A O’Driscoll, L Lual K Sanchez, ZZ, L Lloyd , C Hall, K Sanchez S Mannagh

Not beyond possibility that we don’t rate anyone at 37 and trade the pick in to 2024

Best available for Collingwood is what matters That would be Ollie Murphy or Logan Morris… and potentially address a long term KPP list need with those players

Or we arbitrarily take ‘best available’ mid and end up with another mid like Rantall or Goodyear who were only chosen because of their running ability

… and who will languish in the VFL til they are delisted

Best available… without taking into account positional need… is just lazy recruiting imo
And then we have to pay $$$ to recruit someone to fill a need.

Does anyone know when the minimum primary list of 36 has to be finalised. If we don’t take another pick tonight we would only have 34, even one pick falls us short at 35. Do we have to elevate more rookies after the draft if we are short.

It's highly unlikely any tall kid picked in the draft is going to be playing afl next year anyway. I'd say Dean, Eyre are a better chance for next season.

Or bring in an older, more experienced player from elsewhere.

If you’re short for money? Don’t worry, the AFL will prop you up.

If you can’t recruit? Don’t worry, the AFL will prop you up.

If you can’t recruit, suck and have no money? Don’t worry, the AFL will prop you up.

If your entire game plan sucks? Don’t worry, the AFL will prop you up.

Why win flags when the AFL can prop you up? We’re all about equality here!

This logic is a little puzzling.
You want to select a “worse” player to fill a need, who clearly has deficiencies, and therefore unlikely to make it.
That’s the definition of a list clogger!!!

Draft well, recruit well, manage the cap well, hire great coaches, keep adding members, be financially self-sufficient, prop up other clubs with crowds at their home games, win the flag ....... no level playing field for you, we'll just keep giving others extra to try and bring you down.

It's a fair point, but you can pick for need and end up with McLarty or McMahan.

If we'd gone best available in the McLarty year apparently we would have gone Tom Stewart but the coaches wanted a genuine KPP.
Or we could have gone for Nick Larkey - now there's a genuine KPP.

I think we could pass tonight and fill the 2 main list vacancies via SSP or Delisted FA or PSD

Pick in the 30s in a supposedly shallow draft - we'll be doing very well if we end up with an AFL standard player not sure why you'd reduce the chances of getting an AFL player by crossing off half the field as they're not the player type you want.

So, you only hated them before?
I already really, REALLY hated them, so I'm not sure where I go with this new reason to hate them more.
Really?

Yeah, they're already at maximum hate. All that draft selection has done is ensure that Moir is part of the hate. What an absolute spacker. Can't believe the Blues picked that complete and utter dud.

I agree they probably won’t play, but that doesn’t mean you don’t pick up a player. If you pick a mid/fwd who averages 18 disposals probably won’t play next year as well. Let’s see what Madgen is doing.

I'm not suggesting we don't pick a tall player if there is still one available that's worth picking. Of course we should.

But this insistence on picking a tall player in the draft because we have the need now & as a replacement for say, Murphy, if he were to retire is not going to cut it. Any tall we get in the draft will still need to be developed & more than likely not be playing seniors next year anyway.

I feel like Pies fans now want a big gorilla type key forward to retroactively make up for the fact that we've spent 8 years or so without one - despite us now having moved entirely away from having a gorilla type key forward suiting our game plan.
I think most want Logan Morris with our next pick, hardly a gorilla
