Wouldn't be touching Lual with 10 foot pole. A fumbler, under powered not to mention the pie floater kicking. Give me Hastie or Jiath way ahead of him.

i like the look of Hastie, gives me Tom Stewart vibes with his intercept and rebound ability, plus he is quick

"The Swans have narrowed their options down for pick No.12 but are aware of the Kangaroos' interest in potentially swapping their back-to-back selections at No.17 and No.18 with Sydney's pick 12."

Personally I think clubs need to start being more ruthless when it comes to making sure the opposition pay full price for the players they have priority access to.

If I'm West Coast I'm making a bid on Walter at 1 because a) some observers rate him as the best prospect in this years draft and b) Gold Coast have claims on 4 players expected to be bid on within the first 25 selections so why give them any extra leg up?

I recall Nick saying at the time of his drafting that he was disappointed he wasn't bid on at 1 because he had worked hard to get into those calculations.

2 years down the track however and with a Premiership medal and rising star award to his name I doubt it's still weighing on his mind.

In reality whether Reid is taken at 1 or 2 ultimately doesn't mean much as it's just a number and he'll be judged on his career performance. For the club who bids on him however they're in the business of winning Premierships and are in competition with 17 other teams to achieve it each season. Give them nothing extra if you don't have to!

While it benefited the club I support I've always thought it was a nonsense that Daicos wasn't bid on at 1 when he was clearly in that conversation and we were never doing anything other than matching the bid.

It was a stupid move by North and the fact that JHF wanted out just 12 months later only highlighted why putting the optics of drafting the No.1 player wasn't worth the missed opportunity of denying your opposition an advantage (no matter the degree) when you had the chance.
Every year it blows me away clubs don't bid higher. Tom Greene was probably ranked 3rd or 4th best in his draft and slipped to 10 iirc!!

Yet another mock draft.

A bit too left of centre for my liking with some of the selections.

Honestly I’d be disappointed if ZZ was on the board and Hine didn’t select him with our second. Everything about him screams Hine selection.

Cleary probably turns into another Gulden knowing the Swans and their development of their academy.

Gulden was best on ground in the U17's future's game the year before his draft, and was most of the time best on ground as well. He was simply ignored by recruiters due to his height.

Cleary, while I am hopeful he will turn into a good AFL player isn't as good as Gulden was at the same age.

NM should be using all of picks 2,3,17,18

Plenty of holes in their list and looks like they could get a decent ruck prospect and/or a rebound defender or small forward with those two picks

Likewise WC putting all their eggs in the Reid basket despite the WA kids on offer this year

I wouldn’t. They don’t need 4 more 18 year olds.

If I was north, I’d do the 17,18 for 12 to syd.

Then do 2,12, 15 and next years first for WCE 1.

At least ask the question!

He won the u18s B&F in Tasmania - He's not an unknown.
Relatively unheralded, though. The B&F count is quite an internal thing and isn't really celebrated outside the Devils. In Tassie media, he gets tacked on to all the articles about McKercher, Sanders, Leake, Schoenmaker, Callinan, Ollington then Payne. He's now moved ahead of Ollington. He's clearly had a season of internal praise but until he got invited to the state combine, not many people knew of him. No TSL, either, which is very rare these days but it's not very accessible to coasties unless they board in Launnie or are prepared to drive a lot.

They can't retain that many players from the one class. Silly to draft five in the first round.

If they do, all we do is wait two years and see who wants out of the organisation. The fire sale will have to occur.

Look at us in 2020. We drafted a tonne of players but most have found a way out. Only the Mcs and Mac left at the club now. Goodbye Henry, Poulter, McMahon, Ginnivan and Chugg.
