The magic man is not a 2-way operator. I love his attributes and he has X factor oozing out his hole, but his defensive work is perfunctory at best. Hopefully old mate Rossco can change that mentality because he could be our best player
I'm not at all a betting man, but if I were, I'd lay big money down on Gresh being on the trade table by the time the next season is over.

From Glen McFarlane’s HS article today:

”St Kilda’s 2023 task became harder with news this week that Max King will miss the bulk of the season after being forced to undergo a shoulder reconstruction”

The bulk of the season?

That McFarlane dribbler is the Danny Sexton of footy journos. He has been going for over a generation now and has always represented the low end of the spectrum, and for footy journos that's incredibly low.

I'd take more stock in the formation of my turds in the toilet bowl.

They forgot that 16 -20 weeks does not mean from round one.
As said earlier we are lucky that it occurred at the beginning of ore season and not the end.

I can't see Gresham ever being more than just a good solid mid. He brings something different to the midfield but the only way I see him becoming an elite player of the competition is by also spending a decent amount of game time forward. That is where he is a genuine match winner.
Greshams best position is hard on the boundary in the forward pocket, where he can use his elite elusiveness and kick across his body at goal. :pPretty sure if we put a highlight package together he have a fair few in that zone.

But one of our better tacklers.

I’ve always thought Gresham was too much of a liability defensively to be a forward but I can’t see Ross putting up with guys who don’t want to tackle.

Have a look at his stats and tell me he doesn't want to tackle.
If Gresham doesn't tackle , its because he got the ball first.

9 against GWS earlier this year.

Anyone who gets 15 contested possessions routinely will not be traded unless we get a Godfather offer..

DeGoey is just a much better user than Gresham through the middle though

I thought it would be something Gresham would eventually grow out of but the way he deliberately throws the ball onto the boot to kick an ugly mongrel punt when he has time is as frustrating as anything I've seen as a fan.

I am not suggesting he should be a full time forward but a mix that spend him spend large chunks forward would be best for the team. A 50/50 split or there abouts. Similar to how Robbi Gray was played.

We need guys like Windy really stepping up so we can afford to do it though and Sinclair moving into the midfield would definitely help
Yes. Greshams best work in the middle is using his elusiveness to find space and spark the handball chains. No reason why Bytel couldn't achieve the same result but using grunt to clear. Gresham close to goal and rotating through the middle is his best role IMO. Like Dylan Moore at the Hawks. He's going to be a great midfielder if they put him in the guts, but he will kick less goals.

I'm gonna take the $20 I win from Sun Ra and put it on Gresh being a Saint in 2024.

If StKilda had had a Paul Chapman or Steve Johnson for the last decade, they'd have been midfielders.

Spot on comparison

I agree it will be him or Clark that are moved on at seasons end. Gresh and Clark initially struggled with the professionalism required to get their fitness to the required levels. On top they have both had some bad luck with injuries which has no doubt held them back. We will be in the fortunate position where having done well the past two drafts, we will have young players putting pressure on both. Both Gresh & Clark would be on decent coin and with next year claimed to be a very good draft crop, it makes sense for list balance that we attempt to garner a 1st round pick for one or both.

Gold Coast will have a possible 2 x top 20 academy players in 2023 so they will be looking to off load their 1st round picks, as will possibly other northern clubs.
