You shouldn't be playing all of Curnow, Mckay, Dekoning & Pitto in the same team. And you shouldn't be playing all of Weitering, Gov, Kemp & Marchbank in the same team.

I agree but it's very hard to drop any of TDK/Pitto, or not bring back McKay?

Against Sydney, Pitt/TDK TOG was 61%/71%, so that's quite good for our runners (essentially there's only 32% of the game when both on the field)

Last week was 76%/85%, as TDK was needed up forward (so, 61% of the time both on the field) so I expect the best way to solve being too tall up forward is to have TDK spend as little time as possible up forward (just when McKay/Curnow are off) and Pitt to not spend any time up forward. I think if we run Pitt 60% Ruck, 40% Bench, with TDK 40% Ruck, 30% forward, 30% bench, that would be the best solution, without having to drop any of Pitt, TDK or McKay. Of course in an ideal world too, the sub is made for one of Pitt/TDK/McKay at 3QT if no injuries and one is underperforming.

The defence issue is easily solved to me by bringing in Fisher (or Boyd) for Marchbank, but I guess we aren't on the MC and they probably know better than us.

I’m still recovering from last week and the week before and the week before and the week before and the week before… 🤯

This week is going to tear me to shreds. I have been lurking on the forum for years! Was a member like 10 years ago. I used to make graphics, I used to be BlueGirl91, but couldn’t access that account so I’ve made this new one to join you all. How bloody exciting is this?

I don’t know why I’m introducing myself I feel like I know most of you already… Thy, Aphrodite the list goes on.

I don’t know what to say… I’m nervous. Can you tell?

Let’s go Baggers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still don't get the Marchbank thing. Doesn't he play on hipwood? Not sure that Kemp can yet. Marchbank might be our most important player on Saturday evening.

Comparison of the two teams based on last time each played, except McKay and Martin in. Kennedy out as the McKay replacement last week and Cuningham out as the player subbed out. This in no way reflects what I think the team will be or my preferences. Darcy Gardiner in the emergencies for Brisbane on standby for Payne.

This is certainly an interesting conundrum BigF. Marchy was fairly poor I thought, others disagree. He stands 195 cm`s, yet he has never excelled as a one one defender. His go is intercept, run to space and give a marking option for defenders.

Hipwood is 203 cm`s, so do get the thinking, re Marchy. Hippy is 11 cm`s taller than Kemp, so this does look a big ask for him.

Makes me think that Marchy will be selected for this role. So maybe one of Kemp or Cinc could be replaced by Fish/Boyd.
For me Kemp has been better over the last month than Cinc, although Cinc has been okay in his role's.

On a personal note, I'm not against Marchbank playing, just think we are too tall so one of Kemp/Marchbank miss. I would lean Marchbank out, but Kemp had a hard time with Joel Smith on the weekend too. I don't think we've played with four talls recently until the first final - Gov missed Rounds 21,22,23, Marchbank Round 24 (sub) - it was a great decision for the Sydney match to have the four talls.

All just speculation of course on what the best lineup is for this week.

Charlie is the sort of guy that will come out and burst like the hulk with this ridiculous critisism. Keep it coming I say, it'll just make him rip them to shreds even more.
Wait till you hear the critics after we win the flag.

Can we win this Baggers?
How will we do it?
Details please.
My non-stats inclined brain says yes, but we must be confident and remember to play with dare and run for periods in the game.
I do not buy into the 'we have a weak outside game' crap.
What are Walshy, Cots Acres snd Doc...ham sandwiches? ( as shetland likes to say)
It seems we can match them middle forward and defence.
The Fortress idea is no more than an evil Empire mind game.
But we have a few Jedi masters who can also conjure mind tricks. We will reverse magic their spooky talk and make the Gabba our Princes Park.
Walshy BOG
Charlie 3 goals
Hazza 2
Martin 2
And loads of 1's from others.

Go Blues!
Dont stress, it's all of it, it's just the vibe, its, yeah it's the vibe!

Blues by 13 points guaranteed

Now go for a canter, wink at the Stallion in the paddock next door, roll in the sand and enjoy the week.

Rayner would tear Cincotta to pieces in the air. Plays a lot taller than he is. We want McGovern in the play more than he would be by playing on McCarthy .

Once again opinion based only.
Thought McGov was very important last Friday, you do want him off the leash a bit though had a couple of massive contests that he won. Seems to be finding his touch again

I think that people make the mistake of rating McGovern as a tall. Although he is 191cm Voss likes to use him on the oppositions medium tall or even small option. Last couple of weeks he has played on Heeney and Fritsch although not exclusively.

To me his match up this week is Rayner. Rayner is good in the air but can be run off at times. We want Mitch with the ball as much as possible because although he is not a perfect kick he punches the kick which gets it from point a to point b quickly if that makes sense.

Just a random thought... you're a Victorian, and you don't barrack for Carlton or Collingwood and you hate them both, who do you barrack for this weekend? Lions and Giants? But is that what you want at the G at the GF? Certainly you'd want a Carlton v Collingwood GF because you know the house would be rocking...? But that means you'd have to want them to win this week... Maybe you just pick the one Vic side you hate the most and hope they win this weekend and then lose to the non-Victorian side in the GF.
Oh, it's a good time to be a Blue...

Ironically my Pie supporting mates were all cheering for the Blues on Friday.

Mightily peeved at Dee’s bleating over Maynard.

They also didn’t hesitate to point our Dee’s players hypocrisy in targeting Acres shoulder, Pickett’s bump and jumper punch plus slinging Walsh head first into fence. So much for “protecting players heads”!!!!

The back 7 is a concern to me too, especially the 3 you mentioned

Also agree that we need to apply sustained pressure in the forward half, so our back 6 can setup better behind the ball for intercepts
I thought until last week Kemp had looked fairly solid, but out of nowhere he was spilling marks he was swallowing up easily in the weeks prior. I wonder if the pressure got to him a bit, which is understandable for an inexperienced player in that environment. The same could be said for the others named here.

The only one who seemed to not be overly impacted by the pressure was Weiters.

Long term I'm not too worried but for the right now it's not what you want to see.

I don’t much like Brisbane so hope you win on Saturday. That way, we’ll get to beat you in the GF and right many past wrongs.
Good luck, Bluebaggers!

If we get through this weekend you could put up the Collingwood team of the 20th century against us in the GF and we wouldn’t lose

I agree - Gov a great matchup for Rayner this week, which only leaves Hipwood/Daniher for the Lions talls. If Gunston comes in, then we can’t really change our lineup, but otherwise will be intriguing.

Hey Browny, how do you reckon you would go being scragged and manhandled by May? All 105 kilo's of him, pretty much rated the best key back in the league atm, along with Moore.
I rate Charlie so highly that being soundly beaten by a defender is an anomaly, and for it to happen two weeks in a row is incredibly unlike him, so just wanting him to make his mark against the Lions.

Brisbane game relies on contest and clearance I wouldn't be surprised if Voss and co make Kennedy sub the keep the heat on for the whole 4 quarters...

100% agree with this. He’s the most versatile “fringe player“ have.

If we lose a player to injury he can play inside or go forward where he is good overhead and an excellent kick for goal.

IMHO Kennedy would be an excellent choice for sub.

As I said before I think that Kemp is a good match up for McCarthy. McCarthy isn't tall but plays tall and most if his scoring opportunities come from marks. That leaves Newman for Bailey and Saad for Cameron.

Agree though it will be interesting. I think that Vossy thinks that he has his back 7 and will stick to it.

In: McKay & Martin
Out: Kennedy & Cunningham

Pretty straight forward, need the additional small in Motlop otherwise would be too tall in attack with Curnow, McKay, TDK. Unlucky for Cunners but he’s been average for a few weeks.

Marchy no chance to be dropped imo, wasn’t great on Friday but showed his worth against the Swans. Need his intercepting against the lions.

Didn't sit well with me that Fox Footy replayed that 2000 qualifying final all week in the lead up. At least we should get the 2000 semi vs Lions this week.....as well as 2009. :weary:

For sides which have both had long periods out of the finals we have played brisbane a lot in finals.

95 mcg we won
96 semi at Gabba - we were flogged
99 first final at Gabba - ditto
00 semi at mcg - we flogged them
09 Gabba - brisbane late come back to beat us

That’s 5 finals, all going to the home side.
