Okay Blues Man, actually you are right. JSOS is no chance, just me getting overly emotional about one of my favourite players.

It's a fair point you make.

SOS did kick 4 goals in his last full match!! To go with 19 pos, 10 hitouts and 4 tackles - against the team who was on a 12 game winning streak.

Incredible how far we've come that he doesn't walk back into the team.

Less important than goals from Charlie is him getting kicks. How we won with him only getting 4 kicks is behind me.

He’s the best field kick in the afl. He has to run to space and get the footy over and over. Anywher forward of centre is fine.
More important is him bringing the ball to ground, something he failed to do against the Dees

We are capable of the freeflowing games but that is less likely to be allowed by opposition in finals. Our dour tough game style of late is hopefully going to stand us in good stead against Lions

I remember one of the statisticians looking at the difference between finals and regular season games. The main thing that changes is chipping the ball down the field with uncontested marks dries up. Pressure levels go up only a tiny bit.

St Kilda bases their game on that and Brisbane do a little.

That's why the Voss gameplan, for all its good and bad points, does stack up pretty well for finals footy.

We base our game around winning contests and competing for the ball. This weekend we just have to make the game a complete scrap all the way.

I’ve seen a stats breakdown today which says we were second in the comp since round 14 on clearance and contested possessions differentials. Out of interest, who is first on these measures? I’m guessing it isn’t Brisbane?

I'm super proud of the Club and players - for the first time in many years - it si all good from here - just enjoy.

My childhood is healing… this is therapy.

Just pulled out my 20 year old flag I used to swing around at games as a kid. They were often (always) losing games, but that’s okay. Love our club.

A good start critical on Saturday.

Brissy go bang, bang, bang etc., it's over....

Time for guys like Harry and Charlie to earn their wage....
Mate if there’s one thing we’ve all seen these last 3 months is that if Brisbane do go bang bang bang at the start it definitely is not over.

When fit he’s best 22 for me. I do like that we don’t pick players unless they have the workload and 100% ready.

Shows the culture at the club has really changed for the better

Mmm Sydney had 106 marks against us.

I thought about suggesting drop Fog…..but all the other forwards are dangerous. And Lions only really have Andrews as an intercept player. I don’t see them really taking too much advantage of our smaller forwards by intercepting against them. So fog is low risk. He gives us a chop out in midfield and with Cuners likely to be dropped I don’t see him out in any way.

The Fogarty Cuningham and to a lesser extent Cottrell discussion is interesting. They have been a big part of our improvement BUT they don't hurt on the scoreboard and none of them seem to be able to contribute for 4 quarters. It puts of lot of pressure on others to do more and makes our forward line easier to lock down

Stats wise Fogarty & Cuningham haven't contributed much in the finals.

Personally I would bring Hollands onto a wing and play Docherty up forward. He is a goalkicker, smart and creative, can help the mids and importantly gives the opposition someone else they have to watch. Surprising to me is that Doc is leading us for score involvements

With McKay Charlie Martin Motlop Docherty Owies Cottrell up forward that looks more dangerous to me and I feel we need to kick a minimum 12 goals to win. With two rucks TDK can also spend time there

I feel if our forward line can be just a bit more efficent/dangerous it will go a big way to us winning

Watched the round 8 game highlights.

Hope the key backs learn not to stand in front or push up the ground too often this time. The amount of easy 'out the back' goals the Brisbane smalls scored was embarrassing. I fear that might happen again.

Didn't Melbourne go bang, bang, bang last Friday?

Agree that this team has shown no inclination to believe that they are beaten at any time.

Well that's their strength.....and ours is to lock the ball in with repeat entries. So really our efforts will hold us in good stead. If we bring the intensity with a little luck we can win.

If you have watched our resurgence carefully you would know that Fogarty and Cottrell are integral to the system.

Furthermore, Lachie had 7 score involvements last week lol. Cottrell two goals the week prior. You need to rethink this.

Not a lot is being said about a very fast deck at the Gabba, the ground is a little smaller & it’s going to early 20s at game time. Thats significantly warmer than we are use to.

I know the prevailing thought is minimal changes, but it’s going to be hot & the ground is fast, really hope we err on the side of more run.

We can field a side of top end elite runners / Cotts is racking up 17km, Acres 16km, Hollands 16km.
Brisbanes best runner is Harris Andrews!!!
They have a couple (McCluggae/Starcevich) who occasionally hit 14.5 but we have a definite advantage on continuous run - Hollands is off tap on sprint efforts too.

We can be tough at the contest & clearance & still have outside run & transition - it’s how we got to finals.

If we’re going to win this one, we’re going to need to improve by at least 5-10% on last week’s game. Loved the effort and application but there are a few areas of focus needed.

- Lots of call for Marchy to be dropped but he actually reads the play extremely well and is usually in the right spot, he just drops way too many marks. Hopefully it’s just a matter of minutes answer his belt. Had he taken his marks during the game he’d would have been top 5 on the ground.

- We looked very stagnant in the 2nd half and really struggled with our transition. We had very little imagination in moving the ball out of the backline. It took a wayward kick for Viney to help us open up tue game. Not sure if it’s game plan or just the player freezing in the moment. Fisher/Boyd would definitely help in this regard but I struggle to get them into the 23. This is why I would bring JSOS in for Pitto as it would provide an additional hit up target to help release the pressure and hopefully get that overlap run through quick ball movement, which has been lacking for the past few games. I was happy to see this as a focus area at Mondays training.

- our F50 entries were just terrible. It’s the biggest issue we need to overcome. We could have skipped to 2-3 goal lead with a bit more composure having missed a number of basic 20m passes. Having Harry and Martin back will help no ends. If we’re going to bomb it long, at least put it to the advantage of your team mate. I think if we can improve on the overlap run - which is really what helped us turn our season around - it will help our F50 entries.

- defending small forwards has been a struggle of our for a while now. Not sure who’s best placed to take Cameron. Probably needs to be Cincotta. There were instances where Saad played on Pickett and gave him too much leg rope. The kick from Spargo for Pickett’s last goal was terrific but why was Saad not shoulder to shoulder with him?. We can’t afford that with Cameron…again would love Boyd in the team but 25 doesn’t go into 23 unfortunately.

No need to be rude. Just a discussion

As I said scoring is my worry. If a player could come in and have 7 score involvements and ALSO kick goals and tackle wouldn't that be better? The great thing about how we play now you can plug anyone into the system and they know their role

I am not against Fogarty or Cuningham at all and believe Fogarty will play. Just looking at areas for improvement

100%

Yep. It's not rugba leegue ffs!
Contest and strength is superb foundation,
but run and dare is where the bliss lies.
Doc streaking away from whatsisname, case in point.

I guess they'd practice all week with Gabba field dimensions

And Fog can’t kick a goal from further than 30m out.
Yes he tackles but has very little hurt on his kicking. Would rather he get the the ball first than to be laying tackles.
He’s serviceable with elite tackle numbers, there’s still big deficiencies in his game- but some how he’s untouchable & that can’t be mentioned.
