7 games off and ACL and injured for a good portion of the season. Has worked really hard, no doubt… but Kemp v Marchbank on stats alone

Kemp marchy
Rebound 50 4 0
I50. 2. 0
Tackles. 2. 1
ToG. 94%. 82%
clangers. 4. 3
Marks. .3. 5
Disposals. 14. 12

Marchy has improved but there’s no way he’s doing better than Kemp atm imo.

Obviously MC is seeing something different at training.
You may have missed a very important stat;

Goals kicked by opponent.

This is the best side we have put on the park since 1995.

Kemp’s defensive one v one for the season is 32 percent loss which is putrid. Plus he gets lost. He was really bad last week.

Full full full marks to the MC this week. Great selections all round.
People also forget Kemp had a poor game v Lions earlier in the year and was dropped the next week. Gunston and co gave him issues.

Don’t think the MC weren’t mindful of this and Joel Smith got hold of him last week too.

I will back in Marchy 100%

There's a big chance of a Carlton vs GWS Grand Final this year, who would have thought that possible halfway through the season? Will be barracking hard for GWS tomorrow night.
Think we would have more chance beating the pies - we’ve done that already.
GWS can seriously play.

Looks like a side for match ups and more run. Still could be a late change

The forwards are a no brainer. I love Hollands in for more run and Boyd helps match up on Lions small forwards and provide some run. Releases Saad as well

Kemp unlucky but it’s about what’s best to win and I believe we have done that

We are still massively strong and tough in contested ball but have added run and goalkicking power.

Great selections
Gotta take advantage of hollands’ last quarter. He will be super pumped after that finish and will be ready to go again. Good luck to the lad.

Who do we go with as sub ? Most will be thinking Kennedy … or do we go with Cunners who may be capable of some magic around goal when everyone is knackered ?
I thinks we follow Goodwins example.
We pick a sub who’s bog average, likely to be delisted and who we don’t think we’ll bother playing even when everyone is out on their feet.

Cunners hasn't earned it. Kennedy most flexible as he can cover for a mid or forward, can float back and take a mark and is fresher.

Owies incredibly stiff. A goal in each of our low-scoring finals. Think only 1 or 2 games this year where he hasn't kicked a goal too.

Big game for Mots. Something he won't give you that Matty Owies does is a reliable set shot from 40-45, can put your glasses down when he's got it. Mots a better crumber but yeah, he'd wanna kick a few.
You sure?
Mots has kicked 24.7

I think Voss has given up (for now) on trying to improve the speed of the backline. Instead he makes sure no one gets out the back with structure. He concedes high and wide entries rather than have Weiters sucked up the ground and risk deep entries or out the back goals.

As a result as much as I want Boyd to play he will not even be in the frame.

Yet I think letting Daniher roam on the 50 arc on his own is a disaster and so we have a big problem this week.

I think our secondary talls (Marchy and Kemp) are in erratic (at best) form and are def our biggest weakness right now. Kemp was awful on Friday night. No other word for it. His positioning was terrible. He’s not body checking his man at all. Lost his man so many times. He’s staying in but he’s a big problem right now. One that’s not solved by Marchy. Marchy and Kemp cannot cover for Weiters on Daniher uo the ground. So weiters has to stay wi the him. Which then really exposes our pace because we won’t have the goal keeper.

I felt at the ground that Doc was torched in the end to end running by Langdon. Not criticising him! I love him. Just he can’t do the training at the moment to get up to the kilometres needed for wing.

All these points make me prefer a slight change this week (to add to the obvious Kennedy, Cuners for McKay, Martin).

I want more defensive cover for our weakness (pace down back). Doc plays central defensive mid brilliantly in my view. Great at centre bounce and then plays sweeper. Organises and reads the play. Doesn’t have to run as much as he does when wing. Can press back and plug holes easier. I don’t think Hewett gets back at all well and would prefer him as sub this week.

Playing Doc on ball then gives the full game to Hollands on a wing. I don’t rate the Lions wings (Mcluggage is mostly centre forward now) and think Hollands can do well. With Cotts, Doc and Acres they really push back hard to help and then provide spread options the other way. I think Doc, Cerra and Walsh can cover their clearance exits well and apply the pressure needed on the ball carrier.

Strongly doubt all that happens but is my pref.
Well I’ll be. I presumed Boyd out of the frame. But Voss has gone all in! Love it. He must have read my post. Kemp was rubbish last week. Just all over the place. We win by 4 goals without his efforts. And I love him btw- he’s a 200 game player but he’s got a lot to learn. First full year in backline. Probably being played out of his position (would be better as third tall than second key).

They clearly identified our main weakness and have done all they can to mitigate it. Doc defensive forward is a great call. Doc Cotts Walsh acrws and hollands with defensive run. Boyd saad cincotta with the chase downs. If they get out the back or loose on us a lot I will be stunned. Fog will play a lot on ball this week. They will want to pressure the exits.

Over all just absolutely genius selections in my view.

20 percent one v one losses for Marchy vs 32 for Kemp. Plus Kemp has gotten lost a lot lately.

It’s close but there are valid reasons for the selection.

Dropping Kemp is playing with fire but I suspect Boyd comes in to play on Charlie Cameron as he has a bit more pace & agility than Kemp.

GWS can seriously play.
If GWS win the GF, I would argue it would be one the most unexpected and unbelievable wins in AFL history.
Travelling four weeks in a row to win the GF … I don’t think has ever been done. They haven’t played at home since August 19. Their GF is tomorrow night.

Collingwood have been the best team all year. Break has come at a perfect time both injury wise and to reset.

Hope Pies win - would hate to go into the record books as the first team to lose to GWS in a GF

Vossy and co, surely they’ve been having a sneak peak on big footy by the look of it! Lol
Seriously love how the match committee have selected the side for most of the season! Really been a breath of fresh air to see(most of the time) the right moves made when needed 👏

I honestly can’t understand the changes.
Owies has been pivotal to our team and needed as a small if Harry and Martin come back in. Too slow now and not enough forward pressure.

Kemp and our backline in general have been great, dunno why they would change it up now. Boyd hasn’t played for a while and now coming in for a prelim is crazy in my eues

the alternative argument is that Owies and Kemp have been in poor form for a few weeks now.

I‘m happy with the changes.

Win stoppage & clearances and we can win this. Our forward line should be licking their lips looking at Brisbane’s named backline.

I’d play Kemp as sub, If we loose a KPD we are in all sorts and likewise If we lost a key forward he can also provide cover at this end of the ground. The other option is Kennedy for more mid grunt, likewise cunners could offer some dash and dare. Lots of options, but I’d go with Kemp. Overall have to applaud the ballsy nature of some of our calls and clearly we have picked a side to beat the lions at the Gabba and the MC deserve kudos.
