I'm also going to say welcome back. I've missed you (as some others as well) on our board.
You were before my time Soapy, but I'm excited anyway!😀

I just thought Marchbank was beyond terrible on Friday, most of the game...and four talls vs. Lions seems wrong (unless Gunstan plays?).

Might be worth watching the replay?
Marchbank is almost the most critical player we will have on the park on Saturday.

Yes he fumbled a bit on Friday, but he kept bobbing up in the right position. His ability to read the game and get to contests is pretty much second to none. He is rusty, will not argue. But his mind is not.

Brisbane rely on their varied offence to bully sides. Just watched FC replay average points for 100, against 76 (at the Gabba). They concede scores regularly and rely on kicking more.

Nothing surer that both Kemp and McGovern will be left clutching thin air at some stage of the game. They largely play the ball. Marchbank and Weitering will be busy reading the play and getting to the right spots. With more mobility than JW, Marchy will be the stopper. Yet to be seen if he will be trusted to intercept or merely play a defensive hand, but will be the binding fabric with the threat of the mobile twin towers.

Actually wouldn’t mind Saad playing more accountable on Cameron who will lead him up the ground and look to double back. Saady could just turn it on its head if he gets the read and is first to the pill. Cincotta and Newman would play well accountably, but probably torched coming back (sorry Cinc you are quick, but more straight line quick).

Jaspa Fletcher in a SEN article about the "raucous Brisbane crowd"

“It will be loud,” he said further."
“I know they’ve played in front of 90,000 the last few weeks but being 30,000 Brisbane supporters this week, it might be a little change."

Sounds like A) They're expecting about 15K Carlton supporters given capacity of the Gabba & B) It may sound like we're playing at a retirement village after the last 2 x weeks.

Fletcher might experience 1 or 2 games in front of 90k we just do it for the fun of it.

All I can say is that we are playingt 300% better thn when last we played them - and they'll know that.

the Lions are a team that get on 'runs' and kick a few goals in quick succession.

They also have considerable flat periods where their mids go largely missing.

We will get ample chances no question (enough to win) - we just need to take them!

You reckon Ollie was thinking to himself "I've gotta put this one on Doc's head so that Melbourne player in the corridor overcommits to the spoil and goes to ground, allowing Doc to mark and play on"?

Undoubtedly the kick worked out perfectly, but the result doesn't mean the kick went where it was supposed to go. I have no doubt that the "correct" kick would have been another metre or two towards the wing so that Doc was marking uncontested. A more experienced or disciplined defender might have just taken Doc's body when attempting to spoil, and made sure that the resultant free kick would be delayed 5-10 seconds to allow Melbourne to get numbers back. If the defender had snuck a fist in, or conceded the "professional free" and put Doc on the deck, then there'd be many more people bemoaning the fact that the kick wasn't to the open space.

Ultimately though, it's fine. It was a long kick with the game on the line and Ollie, at the very least, didn't shank it or grub it or put it to the opposition's advantage. He recognised the opportunity and the moment and he pulled the trigger. In a first year player that's to be applauded. There are definitely others in the team who wouldn't have been quick enough, or attentive enough, or skilled enough to see it and pull it off.

It worked, and we're all very ******* lucky and grateful that it did.
Actually Hollands did think.. he didn't kick it out in front, he wanted to kick more to the wing and kicked it to Doc's left side, which enable Doc to protect the ball somewhat. I think he probably wanted it to go a metre wider but it was a less risky option than kicking in leading space up front.

We’ve got something going for us that Brisbane don’t… we’re on the biggest, toughest, never say die, play for the jumper, all heart, drive, passion and willingness steam train of our lives and we aren’t making any stops. These boys want to win, they revel in the the fans joy and they have a #strongertogether mindset… looks like we’re winners to me.

Hollands is a beautiful ball user. As he gets fitter and stronger he will get better. His running and workrate is only behind Walsh. The kick he did was top shelf. Not only to the right position but got there with penetration

He will be a Star

Thanks. Have to thank The OldDarkNavy's, Aphrodite and the Mods for inviting me back. Very generous and appreciated

Good to have you back. Hope you've been well.

Thanks to the mods. This is the time for all Carlton fans to get around one another and enjoy the club's return to prominence.

That was the sentiment and was touching to this old bloke

It's been a long time and time for all Blues to come together and enjoy this ride as One.

So did Newman's.
It was an error riddled game. I'm really surprised, especially after watching the replay, of the amount of heat Marchy seems to be copping.
He had 3 clangers for the game. One of them was an iffy free that was paid to them, and the exact same thing wasn't paid to us.
Newman's direct turnover from the 50m penalty.

McGovern's pinpoint pass to McVee with 30 seconds remaining.

Owies worst inside 50 pass I've seen this year.

Kemp's selfish attemp from deep in the pocket that sailed OOF.

Walshy's trying to bring it inside from defense that was easily picked off.

Saad's simple turnover in front of the MCC

And a great many more. Marchy's missed handball to Cotters was no worse than any of these.

We've shown plenty of nerves in the last two weeks which is absolutely to be expected. Im thinking getting out from under the Melbourne microscope may actually work well for us. We've shown we can play to a much higher standard.

Marchbank at his best is very good player. Issue is he has been through hell with his body and has hardly played. To me he looks like he is struggling at times to keep up and makes too many mistakes in a final. This comes down to just not playing enough. He is now struggling to come up week after week

If Boyd hadn't missed games he would be in. The suspension killed him. He was really starting to play well

I'd like to see more run from our defence but I just can't see Boyd coming in having not played for a month. It's a big ask for a guy that has played 15 games

The only option I see is Docherty going back if Marchbank doesn't play

anyone else's site just go very flakey? seems soap's return has broken the internet............
Getting white screen which I've never seen before, alerts and reactions are weird too

Bounce the ball already!

It’s our time in the sun, I can’t wait to get past the Lions and take home the 17th premiership cup :)

It’s time for the H & CC show!

Let’s go Baggers

Doc won't be able to spoil with that shoulder. Can't see him being moved to defence. I do agree we need more run and Boyd would've been ideal if he was match fit and in form.

I would love to have Boyd in, but the selection committee have made their call - Marchbank will be selected.

I don’t see the team being too different to the one that fronted the Swans, apart from having Hollands in for Cunners to have more run

Stable, connected and cohesive team!
Anyway, I’m very confident that we’ll win

Cuningham is playing as Cuningham does. The hype around here for him is huge but across his career this is exactly what he does. Get dropped/injured, the hype train around him starts again, he comes in and plays a decent game or 2 and everyone lauds his return, then fades again and is eventually dropped or gets an untimely injury. One thing he has maintained better than other seasons though is his tackling. Career high tackles this season which has been a part of our small half forward pressure
The hype’s always been about his classy touches - something hard to come by - someone who wins clean ball and uses it well despite immense pressure.

He’s likely knackered from a long season without a base.

Don’t think we can carry two players for tackling alone.
