You’re far too pessimistic though. 12 months ago you’d not want Blacres anywhere near the starting 22. Players can improve and with a bit of competition for spots for once, we should only get to see players who have earned it.

I’d rather go Henry or Johnson but Hughes is a good like for like replacement if the others don’t work out.

Pessimism aside Acres always looked to have talent even if he was frustratingly inconsistent , Hughes has looked like a lucky to be on a list type since day dot and it’s a credit to his work ethic and Freo’s propensity for idiotic contracts to journeyman aging depth players that he’s still around TBH

we’ll see how long the daydreams last once the season starts

The Rest must be a bit of a struggle outside the midfield. Every key forward seems to be on purple which is interesting.

The dream is Hughes and Banners don't play a game because others with more talent have gone past them and we have no injuries.

Doesn't mean having depth and options is a bad thing though nor should we lament the loss of the depth that left as it's easily replaceable without too much worry.
