There's a bunch of players who I think should be moved on at the end of the year for a variety of reasons, the problem is that we'd get nothing for most of them. Not a great list position to be in.
Does it really matter?

If we are talking about the likes of Marchbank, Cuningham, Martin, Philp, etc.
What exactly is it we will be missing from them?
The truth is we never see it. They are forever on the sidelines in bandages.

Just load up with more fit kids in the draft. It's more than likely we'd be getting something out of this compared to what we have now.

I do feel we'll be trading a future first etc this year in order to prep for some father and sons (Campo boys) so this years draft is huge and I suspect our list management team will be working overtime in getting a bunch of picks and kids in this year with only father and sons etc next year or so being the main on boarding.

Most clubs are able to handle the one up, one down mentality when dealing with injuries yet we seem so dependent on having our best 22 players available to be able to perform anywhere close to our best. Every side has their 'Cowan, Hollands, Honey, Cincotta' types that come in and out of the team each week who contribute without being stars, but it never seems to negatively impact the team's performance as drastically as it does to ours.

Perhaps its years of being pathetic that has meant Cripps and the rest of our leaders have no trust in these guys and dont bring them into the game which is why we become so predictable and rely on our stars to perform each week to get a result, and as we seen yesterday sometimes not even that is enough.

I have been upset since leaving the crap show at Marve yesterday. Here is a rant:
I was a member even before permanently moving here in 95.
Been to over 90% of all home games since then no matter how horrible we were.
But I am finally running out of patience. If we need to sack the coach to stop this rubbish, do it now. If we need to sack most of the football department - do it. Sack Russell now.
I am sick of waiting. We are not suddenly going to improve by a massive amount. Have a look at the stats since middle of last season.
We are not going to get a much better list then we have now. They are not getting any younger.
Put people in place who can get the best out of this group - now.
2 players we deemed not good enough at the end of last season are now playing every game for teams above us on the ladder.
I had enough and I lost my patience.
Rant over

With our limited cap and an abundant of players not in the golden '23', some may want to look at other opportunities or more $$$ moving forward and may just leave.

We can already suspect;

Ed, Fogarty, Dow, Marchbank, Cunningham, Philp, Honey, Plowman may not be on the list next year.

Throw in TDK with a few huge offers, Sam Durdin could probably play in the 22 of some sides like North/GWS/GC so could be enticed to move on. Don't continue to play Kemp I'm sure someone else will give him a chance.

Then McGov don't think would be too impressed with a lowball deserved offer so could depart, as could Martin, and don't think we'll be looking at elevating Akuei or Mirkov.

That's 14 players right there who could possibly not be in our listed 46 next year.

So whether by design, intent or just from pure stubbornness to keep persisting with the same week in week out we may conceivably have a pretty decent list cull.
Whilst I agree with most of those names being on a list of possibilities to be moved on, we won't be moving on 14 players in one off season. You're going to struggle to replace them with anybody better for starters. That's going back to the bad old days and SOS filling the list spots with cast offs who offered very little. We aren't where we were back then. We were bottom of the heap then, we are now looking to improve the list with an eye on being serious contenders, as much as we are all frustrated some perspective is also needed.

10 years of being knocked back as a senior coach and so over developed his "people skills". Take a leaf from Ross' book... I'm still a prickly sod, just a bit less so now..
If we wanted a motivational speaker we should have kept Bolton. Something doesn't smell right.

Ive felt this since watching the round one game and our slow methodical crapola game style … I’m feeling we’ve completely lost our composure after our capitulation at the end of last season … and that’s players and coaches …
We spent the entire pre season on slowing opposition run ons that we had an issue with last year. It seems we've lost the attack in the process.

Ed, Marchbank, Cunningham, Philp, Martin, McGovern could all go through inj

Dow and Kemp will opt to leave at this rate.

TDK and JSOS could opt to leave
I'd be encouraging the last two to move on as I would Dow (again) The first group I'd agree with except for McGovern. I'd also add Fisher and Honey to the list of possibles.

could be onto something..

If H can stop over thinking things he can become one of the best forwards in the business imo.

Has the height and great hands but just needs to fix his decision making when he marks and when taking a shot on goal.
  1. Needs a set shot routine
  2. Practice the set shot routine through the week
  3. In game after he marks walk back slowly and take a couple of deep breaths and exhale with some force to remove any build up of CO2 to settle the nerves and get some O2 into his lungs
  4. Use up his 30 s
  5. Follow thru with the routine
PS - routine must be based on the drop punt (none of this round the body banana BS)
Maybe employ Fev to some specialist one on one coaching.

The way everyone on this board is talking about the Campo twins, very much reminds me of the talk around Ben Silvagni and Bailey Rice... We all got pumped up and excited about these future stars who in reality were average junior players that probably dont even get drafted if they dont have famous fathers... Lucas was named on the wing in the u16 All Australian team last year.. as a reference in 2018 Corey Durdin was also named on the wing in the u16 team.. Good result but its hardly guaranteeing us the next Nick Daicos. We should wait until they both at least start performing at senior SANFL level before raising our hopes and heaping pressure on the kids.

Because Ross knew exactly how we would play & parked the bus. They used our slowness to ensure they were perfectly set up & waited (to be fair they set up bloody quickly anyway, we just made sure they didn’t have to rush about it). We then stuffed around with the ball just racking up stats.
Hewitt 29 touches for 30m gained is one of the most extraordinary stats ever
And even when we did get forward with targets in place WE WAITED 4-5 seconds for them to get back and outnumber us. Or actually to to them. I nearly had a stroke when Harry had the ball at times - it was SO bad I couldnt believe my eyes. I'm still angry as I write this.

That's fine if some of those 10 mids (well, really 6-7 depending on rucks and pure wingmen) are actually dynamic players who are able to play back or forward.
If we picked Docherty as one of the mids, then I don't have a problem if we only pick 6 backs.
But of the 6 mids we picked yesterday, only Cerra can really pinch-hit back.
And only Cripps and Walsh have any sort of dynamism.

It's crazy picking all of Ed, Hewett and Kennedy to be our 4th, 5th AND 6th mids.
Hewett and Acres are good defenders. Cerra has learnt this season to drop back and support (something 3 of our mids do at any given moment).

Kennedy is good up forward, just his forward pressure was previously very poor, but his mobility has gone up since then, particularly this season. Then you've got Jack who can play everywhere with varying success, McGovern who can switch ends, Kemp who can theoretically play everything but key position and ruck subject to endurance.

Boyd is an OK small forward, etc. Charlie can play midfield or CHB if required but he's got such good attacking instincts and is such a good contested mark and kick you want him forward. Durdin was a midfielder until everyone else had a growth spurt, while Motlop is clearly more midfielder than forward.

Pretty sure we could also bring in enough athelticism that we could simplify the roles enough to have our midfielders rotate through the forward line in two spots. Not sure why we're so allergic to midfielders given that they're often the smarter and more dynamic players in the juniors.

Bolton may have been our best coach since Parkin but was white anted by a weak minded senior player group who didn't like being told how they played football fast and furious with no accountability was no way to win big games --a below average coaching panel once Craig left - no resources in footy department space or proper head of football and a list manager that went rogue trying to moneyball deals leaving him with tripe to coach ..
McRae very astute bringing him in ..

Fev loved the blues and kicking goals..bloody good set shot too.

i think he has wisened up a bit since leaving afl so i dont think there is much risk he will corrupt our well mannered boys :)

Bolton went off the rails in 2019, and forgot that winning still mattered.

New coach, new captain and for love of god recruit some winners to the club at end of season (should have been done years ago - fail)

List management had a mare last season and of course the incompetence of fumbling Ross Lyon is now obvious to all.

Falling over the line enough times to scrape into finals with this list will prove nothing.

FYI - he’s not exactly distinguishing himself down at the AIA Centre.

;)

Voss is owning it....before the two losses Blues were working very hard against some average teams for small wins..
Adelaide were very physical and very serious at home...blues didn't want to know✔
Saints wanted a measured win....calculated,and clever

Our mids were dominating early last year....hewett nothing like last year, kennedy to an extent as well, cerra is ok....etc
Acres has helped....Walsh returning is now building

Fish,Ed,Honey,durdin,Owies....etc.....some of them wouldn't get a game at other clubs......we need Martin,we need Motlop to improve
Our list is NOT deep in A graders......its good but as we have seen can slip into very average bracket easily

I think still make 8...... still a long road to dominating clubs....however won't take a lot to get wins again, but its also scary if things implode again think its in the balance at the moment, better selecting workers in dodgey times
If Hewett crook send him to vfl
Use Ed in mids
Cincotta not pace however has good disposal and will stand ground all the time...short term yes
Lob continues to stuff up even as sub
Some of our small forwards are very average...
We miss Doc,Williams,Martin......besides H n Charlie.......forward not good with a dampened midfield output its not surprising
I don't think they really got this group working too well this preseason,Hewett coming back late and Waksh as well...they are not working,I think some work ahead next few weeks to sort this mess out👍

Absolutely biffed them in the stats.

How can we not find a way to goal?
Has anyone one considered outside our two big fwd the 5 are below average standard - you got three guys raw as hell no one has confidence going to them ,Martin ,Ed fish and Jsos who are 7-8 years in and have never lit up the scoreboard with any regularity and haven't ever kicked a bag (if people show you what they are on a consistent basis believe them )
Experts make me laugh saying we to Harry Charlie reliant well who else has shown they can be counted on .. this is why sending guv back robs us of fwd experience and to win games you need to kick goals -- a player like Luke bruest or a gunston was a must for us last off season even a Lincoln McCarthy type -- even our fwd pressure is bad so if they not kicking goals what are those 5 others doing ..
until the last two draft we have not payed attention to this area of the ground we need to snag a mature aged papley type as a rookie or mid season draft ..

On the AFL website's '7 things we learned' segment they said we need more avenues to goal. We didn't learn that, its been obvious for ages that our forward line is garbage unless charlie or harry carry. We had 3 players on the field yesterday who have kicked 100+ career goals and are proven goalkickers. Charlie, Harry, Gov. Been saying it for ages; move mcgovern forward and play kemp in defence. You can’t magically teach someone to kick goals, it’s something that you either naturally have or you don’t. It’s not rocket science. And our smalls are a bunch of headless chickens.
