Im a huge SOS fan but that miss in the third was simply not good enough. In a very even contest that made a huge difference. Has to be better than that.

Jeez Harry really tried so hard all afternoon and took some great contested marks but but I left the game wondering if he's just plain stupid.

Charlie Curnow held every time the ball was kicked to him, every time!

Sadly, Harry does strike me as a particularly stupid footballer. Does some things that render me apoplectic, as per a previous post, I thought I was having a stroke at one point. He just does some really puzzling things and has serious issues kicking for goal.

I wouldn't be against trading any player if it made us appreciably better.

Not sharing anything we don't already know, but here's where we are at atm...

Goal kickers 2023 (Games/Goals/Behinds)
C Curnow 6 21 11
H McKay 6 9 8
M Owies 3 6 1
C Durdin 5 6 5
J Motlop 6 6 1
J Silvagni 6 5 5
Z Fisher 6 2 1
S Docherty 4 2 0
J Honey 3 1 1
E Curnow 6 1 2
S Walsh 2 1 0
B Acres 5 1 1
T De Koning 5 1 2
A Cerra 6 1 2

We are currently 5th worst scoring side. Apparently we are among the bottom five teams in supply inside 50, forward half pressure, marks inside 50 and ground balls inside 50.

Whilst I agree with most of those names being on a list of possibilities to be moved on, we won't be moving on 14 players in one off season. You're going to struggle to replace them with anybody better for starters. That's going back to the bad old days and SOS filling the list spots with cast offs who offered very little. We aren't where we were back then. We were bottom of the heap then, we are now looking to improve the list with an eye on being serious contenders, as much as we are all frustrated some perspective is also needed.
But is it really looking at it through frustration or is it logic, to offload 6 perennial injured players picking state league players at the right age or a bunch of 18yo later in the draft, even if we get one good player it would be a success, adding stability to the reserves, having more players on the track improving training standards, we'd have more to choose from at selection.
It's all a win from what we are going through at the moment, more a step forward than reverting back to the past imo.

Was that from the 50M penalty that he missed right in front of goal?

Just focusing on the collective list, we have lacked speed and good users by foot for many years.

Can't rectify it all in one off season, but it needs to be the main focus, starting this off season
I think we have to be bold and develop a strategy to try. and rectify our lack of speed in 1 year. I mean from what I saw yesterday, even 2 more Cincottas could replace some of marchbank, cunningham, fogarty, dow, ed curnow, obrien, honey. The recruiting department needs to look under every rock in the minor leagues. Trade where possible but overall realise we have nothing to lose with being aggressive as our current crop are limited

who Are you replacing with the new speedy/good users - retired players eg Ed curnow or are you delisting /trading some? If so who do think should go?

Any chance this can be discussed in the List Management thread!

Because Ross knew exactly how we would play & parked the bus. They used our slowness to ensure they were perfectly set up & waited (to be fair they set up bloody quickly anyway, we just made sure they didn’t have to rush about it). We then stuffed around with the ball just racking up stats.
Hewitt 29 touches for 30m gained is one of the most extraordinary stats ever
To be fair, rule 1 of Ross' gameplan is park the bus.

Rule 2 Don't ever un-park the bus. or don't drive the bus? idk one of those.

Rule 3 don't even hire a bus driver to drive the players to the ground from the hotel.

He's the AFLs version of Jose Mourinho just without the trophies.

So we fixed up our leakier defence from last year at the expense of the attacking side of the game which we were better at last year. Essentially we've done the opposite of Teague's game plan.

It seems this group of players can't balance out both facets of the game.

So many variables to ponder:

Fitness
Injuries
Player footy IQ (decision making, understanding game plan, playing your role)
Player type
Player skills
Coaching communication
Psychology

We sit here year after year wondering when it will all click, we seem to have enough good players to at the very least match it with the current darlings of the competition.

Voss will need to be very careful in the next little while that the players don't start losing confidence in the system if they keep losing.

It's funny that Harry is actually supposedly super intelligent (off the field). Reminds me a bit of Will Minson who was mensa-esque just pulled out many a brain fart on the field, like our Harry.

He's amazing when he doesn't have to think as much beyond the forward 50, in taking marks, crashing packs, making space and weaving. But once his mind realises he's in the F50 zone and that little man tells him it's now going to be his responsibility to get the 6 points....

Lyon is pure genius. Take a look at the score worm after they kicked their last goal for a 20 point lead. Dead flat. Neither team was able to score. He got his lead and then made it impossible for any decent score to be kicked.

He even discussed it in his pressa…

Got his lead and said they could have kept going but decided to lock it down for the last 10 minutes, unbelievable how he just changes gears and the team can stop the flow of goals…

Thank god he did or it could have been a 6 goal loss…

You think we'd learn to kick it in front of him so he can run at it and either mark it or draw the free
