Edwards you have to be kidding his cooked

I actually think Edwards is worth a spot if;

I would want to understand why he has been so poor. Agree with you he has looked cooked, but why?

If he has been training the house down, 100% effort, diet, engaged, doing everything he can and still performing at that level then it suggests he simply is not good enough.

But

If he has been battling some kind of mental health issue, something like imposter syndrome, chronic anxiety, filled with self-doubt and just doesn't feel he belongs then it's worth a closer look. Something unsettled in his personal life. These can be crippling.

There was one article which hinted at something, that he lacked the desire or alike. Edit - Again we need to know why.

Prior to being drafted he showed he had the physical characteristics - these don't just disappear. 203cm players with his base physical attributes are rare. I posted a list of player heights and King Corey made the insight how some clubs are carrying a lot of tall players to see who comes good.

So, if Edwards is willing to give it another go, work at understanding what is impacting his performance. And the club feels they can support him plus we get some extra list spots then like The Nostradamus I'd give him a spot.

Anyone with a hint of inside info on Jacob has suggested he's already delisted so we're most probably discussing a moot point.

But I wonder if we got an early access to a kid who will only go near showing his potential in another 3 or 4 years. It's been discussed at length as to how stunted his development years have been thus far - 2x lockdown years (his 2x U18 years), midseason draft while at high school, 4x senior coaches, potential lack of leadership especially amongst his role peer group.

You raise some really compelling points about "other" factors related to this that could be capping his athletic potential too.

What do you have as you said is a 203cm kid who is filling out a bit and has a really nice natural levels of skill and mobility to work with. He is still the nearest we have to emulating Goldstein's player profile long term if he gets it right.

Again probably moot and he's going to end up in the VFL or SANFL for 5 years to see what he turns into.

Thinking further on Edwards, reflecting back on the successful talls in our system this millenium:

Petrie - showed AFL quality by year 2 but 300 games shows he was an exceptional player in many ways

Hale - took about 4-5 years to start making any kind of statement in the AFL and odd anomaly aside ("Hailing Goals") I'd argue it took him about 11 years to really start fulfilling his AFL potential

McIntosh - took about 4 years to show a bit in the AFL and 5 years to become a solid AFL player

Goldstein - took 2 years to show glimpses in the AFL, 3 years to show real AFL potential but probably 4-5 to start becoming the player we're accustomed to

I'd argue these were the only decent rucks/ruck-forwards we've produced this century.

So even without accounting for Edwards' interruptions, he's a baby in development terms and at the same stage Hale and McIntosh hadn't even registered any kind of presence in the AFL.

Max Gawn took a few too didn't he?

No defence of JE btw. He never seems desperate or hungry enough. Good points make above re: imposter syndrome etc.

1 yr spot, but of Clarko love?

Took him 7 years to reach 50 games fwiw.

Same as you though, wouldn't argue Edwards has the same potential. But big men take time didn't accidentally just become a cliche.

That's going to be quite a few senior spots to fill. Already got our minimum 3x spots plus 2 extra.

Cunnington
Goldstein
Hall
McKay
Ziebell

You'd safely assume at least another 2 senior spots on top of that too. So conservatively we're talking 7x senior vacancies.

Bonnar, Perez, Mahoney, Turner, Young and Howe make it eleven, and ther could even be one or two more.

Only thinking of senior spots to keep it clear in my head tbh. Young, Bonar, Mahony and probably Spicer reasonable assumptions.

Going to be a vastly different list yet again next year. The first Clarkson list.

Yep. Will take until round 5 to get to know all of the new players.

Crikey, Spicer, Tucker, Free.......

We need TAO to run the numbers again.

Round one in 2024 could see over half of the team in North colours for the first time.

IT'S HAPPENING!!

l would say conservatively you could add another 4-5...Edwards, Mahoney, Bonar, Turner and Howe plus maybe even Bonar and Young.......

What’s our tally at now?

Unfortunately, I don’t think Perez is going. Seems really confident in the club. Even said he think we’ll still get Reid .
