Passed
Fremantle Dubai Quacker, Essendon Callipygian
With its final pick, Fremantle selects Clay Hall from the Peel Thunder Football Club.

He’s just too good to not get drafted.

Back to you once again Callipygian

PS: if there’s a rookie draft to follow, Freo will take Joe Fonti from the Claremont Football Club …. another who deserves a shot on an AFL list.

Rusty with the double pick there before the Blues I think.

Port has now progressed to just hitting the snooze button instead of a rolling 8 hour alarm.

Think it is actually Callipygian again to round out Round 3? Then back to you, then Rusty (x 2 picks).

i.e. the comment above the Round 4 order.

Ah yes - you’re right.

Callipygian, looks like Essendon is up at Pick 61.

And I might revisit my “final pick” statement. I believe Freo has 4 list spots available so will use our 4th rounder.

100% agree there he could be a value late pick. If he doesn’t go in the normal draft I’ll be stunned if he’s not a rookie pick

Then if we do the phantom pre season training thread my first year players have a 3k time trial day one

Happy for you to stick with your unofficial 4th pick and leave others for me. Got so close to Hall being available at Port's picks, but Freo (and you) with a double beforehand didn't bode well for me.

G'day folks,

With the interest & engagement surrounding this year's draft amongst Swans fans, the mods and a few eager beavers on the board thought it'd be a bit of fun to do a phantom draft.

How it works:

Anyone who has participated in a mock draft before will know how these work but for those who haven't, comment below if you wish to register your participation. You can draft for any of the 18 teams, but there can only be one participant per team, so get in quick if you want to participate and want first choice on which team you wish to draft for.

Once the mock draft commences, it will unfold in the current order of the 2023 draft, meaning whoever represents West Coast with pick 1 will be up first, followed by Gold Coast with pick 2, then North with pick 3, and so on.

A quick draft is a good draft, so ideally it requires people who will be willing to post their selection as soon as their pick is up. Eg. taking half a day or more to jump on and post your selection will drag things and kill the vibe. Keep this in mind when registering your interest.

If you don't think you'll be available to make a certain selection at a certain time, DM me a list of your preferences in advance and I'll post it for you (I won't be participating so your lists will be safe with me.)

When you post your selection, if possible add a bit of a reasoning for your choice to make things interesting. How detailed you choose to be is up to you.

Once you've posted, tag the person who is next in the draft order so they know it is their turn. The draft order, selected picks, and users for each team will be at the top of the page in a pinned message so you can always see who is representing which club, who has already been picked and whose selection it is next.

As far as father/son and academy bids go, if you select a player that is tied to another club, tag the person representing that club so they have the opportunity to match the bid. If they match the bid, then it is back to your turn and you make another selection. Just like the actual draft.

For the sake of an interesting mock draft, each person must use at least 3 selections in the draft. Once you have used 3, if you wish to opt out of the draft, just comment 'Pass.'

Enjoy all :)
Thanks Caesar for organising this. Enjoyed it. Made me think.

You can thank Grand Uncle Horace for approaching the mods and proposing the entire thing to begin with.

When robbieando bid on all 4 gun talls I spat my coffee out. Certainly blew my (Dees) first pick (O'Sullivan) out of the water. Then I thought, these guys are in huge short supply, why not value them that highly in the draft? So it made me go back to my power list and what I was trying to achieve at the Dee's. Sanders was my second choice but should I now consider Murphy who was fourth?
Then I was delighted when Wilson was still available as I think he's the nearest thing to Gulden in this draft. But should I take Murphy now?
Last one was easy but those first two really exercised the little grey cells as Hercule would say. So thanks again for the fun.

Pretty easy draft for WCE, for the record in the real one I’d be trying to get another pick inside 25 maybe with GC’s picks or whatever. Took the best player in the draft at 2, that was available. Took a versatile player in ZZ second round, filled a small need in the next round. Was always taking the best available defender in the next round. The small one is always subjective but he was the one I wanted

With the news Hawthorn have another F/S at the very end of the draft, should I be as real as possible and take him?

Also, do I only have 3 spots? There's a name on there I want to grab this late as well
If you started with 4 picks, but have only used 2, may as well take the other 2 if you want. I don't think we're aiming for ultra realism... Port only takes 1 or 2 in reality, but damned if I'm doing all the work and waiting for anything but 3 picks. I plan on listing a few that I'd consider for a rookie pick too.

With apologies for the delay, I am going to make a Hastie pick and bring Angus Hastie in to the club. While we have beefed up our tall defenders in recent times, we still have room for a developing medium who can intercept and run off half-back. We would have liked to grab Simpson if he were still on the board but overall very happy with our draft hall. And now we're done. Passing from here on in.

I'm not sure who's next.
