Heath's been a glass 3/4s empty type for some time now.
I like his honesty, nothing wrong with that.

It's refreshing amongst all the rose-coloured glasses that will go along with anything positive when it is what they want to hear.

Can't fix problems if you don't acknowledge and address them.

Im not panicing but agree on this. Im from a sporting background and one thing you learn early on is perfect practice makes perfect. If you nail your skills everytime in training it will be automatic when it comes to competition.

There is no excuse for lazy kicks and handballs ever. It doesnt take any extra energy to do properly just concentration.

I can understand lack of intensity when it comes to running and tackling ect. Thats a bit different.
With all due respect to Bucky, I didn't see it that way at all.

For starters, the conditions were wet and greasy which is always going to affect skill execution - but the kicks and handballs were NOT lazy or sloppy in any way, shape or form - with the VAST majority hitting their target. Those that didn't hit the mark were basically from the same players who weren't hitting the mark to any high degree last year.

It wasn't an intense session by any means, but the players were still involved in drills and skills which were still being executed at a high standard given the conditions. There was plenty of voice amongst the players, and it was plain to see there's genuine belief and positivity in the playing group. Just going by the below photo on our website, you can see the spirit amongst the group which was clearly evident yesterday.

At the end of the day, we have no idea on the intensity levels of training sessions behind closed doors, but with Vossy at the helm we've got a pretty fair idea. I'm not sure if it'd be a great idea from the club to showcase to the rest of the world a session where mouthguards are in, and the players are going at it hammer and tong in full match simulation.

Some of us good folk probably just need to settle a bit. In all honesty, there was nothing negative at all I took from the session.

…and when asked about defenders who are ‘training the house down’ (or something like that) he mentioned Plow along with Saad and Newman.
That's way too much love for Plow.

Of course no sign of sheep following the easier negative track....

Agree, it was wet and its January but still I have seen u14s train harder that this.. Its all about attitude and the standards that get accepted, and this aint it.
So you're out in the middle standing next to Voss and the entire coaching group saying "I know better"? Have I got that right?

Thanks for clarifying, that's good to hear.
My concern was less about intensity and mainly about execution/accuracy, so it's reassuring to read your comments.

Kemp in the midfield is very very good news. Has loads of talent and athleticism, just needs the confidence/arrogance to make it go off.

We, like all teams are much much better with a match winning forward mid. We lack that a bit.

When Cripps was playing mid then going forward and kicking goals we were top 4, easy, when we lost that we dropped a peg.

Some development to go but if Kemp can play mid to a high level, which I think he can and then go forward, create that miss match, pull out moments of brilliance then we go up a level.

Or... he allows Cripps to do this and we know Cripps can.

Not too slow either, so that’s a good mix in our midfield

i loved what he said about plow, along the lines of 'we/he knows he cops it from other teams and also our own supporters, but he doesnt care and always trains his ass off'

Shows good character and determination, no doubt Plow would be one of the best club men around the place but sort of backs up the point many here make that he gets targeted as a weak point in our defence when playing if even oppo teams give him churp about his performances.

Whipping boy or not I'm hoping we largely see the back of Plow this year because young studs come through who push him out of a spot.

Name names please? AFL players shouldn’t be doing this, or continuing to do so if an area of concern.

Was at the club this morning and saw Weitering in the Gym, no strapping or anything, so seems fine.

Was also at the club this morning.
Front and centre in the gym was Walsh, working on a walking/running machine.
Safe to say he wasn’t out for a morning stroll.
The guy is a machine and it’s no fluke he’s on another level than most …

Not sure if it’s been mentioned here already, but Weiters in the clubs podcast (JW was great btw) mentioned at least twice that Doc was training as a pure mid… I’m a big fan of this and thought he gave us a different look in there late in the year with his big body, tackling and kicking penetration. Without Walsh a rotation of Crippa, Cerra, Hewitt, Doc, Kennedy and Fish is still very very good.

And we can cover Docherty with Lachie Cowan or Marchbank. Go taller.

Cowan/Marchbank Weitering McGovern
Saad Young Newman
