sos has been looking over his shoulder from the day he was born - "you're not as good as" was his birthright and he's lived through the immense pressure admirably

Bit of talk about Kemp on here which I love. This is his pre draft video and he states he models his game off Cripps and Fyfe. I still think this kid is going to be a gun and if he does come close to who he wants to play like, look the F out competition...

I really liked kemps game on Taberner v the second Fremantle game last year I feel he’s gonna turn into a very gd utility like Silvagni. Silvagni looking over his shoulder now I presume.

His first half was poor, but his positioning improved in the 2nd half

  • Kemp doing drills with the midfield group. Looks a super athlete now, and I reckon that's his spot...big bodied mid with pace and marking strength. He's a player to keep an eye on this year - could be a bolter
I can definitely see him on a wing. Did it a few years ago one VFL game and dominated. Might be where he's most suited.

Love the big bodied mid chat about Kemp, one slight question mark, he would probably want to play a single VFL game (or even a preseason game) in the midfield before we for the 100th time talk up his mid credentials. Right now Kemp is a long way off and on current form projects a 50/50 proposition to make it longer term, let alone play mid minutes. Granted he looks in incredible condition and I would absolutely love to see him make it at the top level, but right now he’s battling for a fringe spot and sits outside the best 22. He’s definitely got some weapons, a nice step, neat skills and powerful, but is yet to find his best position. Here’s to hoping 2023 is his year!

I tend to agree.

I think the best way to use him is that 3rd tall forward, doing some stints in the middle, somewhat like a Stringer role

At the moment he is fighting for a spot with Jsos, but that's not to say he can't start on the bench as the 7th forward

I also agree that we need to first see that evolve at VFL level

Not the same types, but he is also fighting for a spot with Carroll and Cuners

I am more confident in the trajectory of Kemp. I remain concerned that our stacked midfield and the prospect that Doc enters the rotations to relieve the defensive logjam, Kemp, Carroll and the draftees are going to struggle for opportunity. The positive side is that with the drafting of Lemmey and the addition of Liam McMahon, along with the VFL retention of Luke Parks has likely freed up Kempy to be groomed in his preferred role. I have a feeling the upside will be spectacular.

I know most of this board prefers to be pessimistic, but I have ridiculous optimism that we will be at the pointy end of the competition for a long time. I am not naive enough to relate this to untold numbers of flags, as a number of clubs have compiled awesome lists simultaneously. Turning the talent into trophies is in the hands of Vossy who seemingly wants to replicate his golden years in Brissie.

I am concerned regarding retention of our youngsters. I believe we already have most of generation next in the midfield, while having a mature and potent midfield in their prime (and contracted). Walshy, with Kemp, Carroll, Hollands, likely Binns and the prospects of the Campo boys and soon AW1’s very talented son. (Not totally discounting Dow either as can be a weapon out of the middle, but has a mountain of work to do).

I am not as convinced as some yet, but there is case for optimism with Lemmey as a long term piece too. We only have a small number of players to recruit over the next 3-4 years to “complete” generation next. We are in great shape for a decade or more if we can retain our young guns and choose wisely in the draft.

I’m probably a little bit against the grain / majority with who I’d like to see given a rotation in our midfield mix and that’s one C. Durdin. Our midfield is absolutely stacked with big bodies and who are tough, have good hands and tackle well: think Cripps, Kennedy, Hewitt, Doc and you would also have kemp in this group (should he ever get the opportunity) and my thinking is we need to mix it up with a Jade Gresham, Zac Butters, Zac Bailey type to offer us that dynamic, quick and burst and Durdin would absolutely offer us this. Physically he’s strong (still lots of upside with him here), but would absolutely love to see us give him a handful of 3-4 minute bursts in there per game. Would give us a different look we badly lack, particularly with Walsh out.

I’d like to see Kemp become the next Kouta.
Then I guess it would also be great if Carroll could be the next Judd and Hollands the next Bradley, so let’s see what we’ve got.
Yep agree.

Nonetheless, Kemp needs to be played in a position where he can not only shine but in a position that will add something to our best 22.

Does playing him down back as a 3rd or 4th tall achieve that in light of Brackets, Marchy, Newman and even Plow all highly capable in that role (and now young Moo too)?

Sure a few of those names will be gone in 3-4 years, but....

As a mid, who would he displace? As others have said, we're hardly short on big bodied mid types!

Tough to expect him to take a spot from Crippa, George, Cerra or Matty K?

Someone mentioned the wing? Acres has one spot sewn up you'd reckon, the other? But that needs to be running type like Ed, Cotters, LOB or Hollands/Binns - doubtful Vossy would have loaded up with winger types if he saw Kemp in that role....

Up forward, as a 3rd or 4th tall seems the most likely? But can he displace a JSOS, Martin or even a TDK?

I guess having him on the bench in a utility role - fill a spot as the need arises during a game sounds good, but he needs to have a role - can he shine enough in a utility/spare parts role in the 2s to earn a promotion to the seniors?

Maybe. But starting him forward seems optimum to me, right now.

I think that’s a good idea.

Another good option would be Williams. Wouldn’t mind throwing him in there at times as well for a bit of x factor.

Whilst we are there Motlop to become the next Wayne Johnson and TDK to become the next John Nicholls, just need someone to become the next Jesaulenko and we might have a premiership team.
