Day is keen to go on.

Sam Day is not ready to hang up the boots just yet despite being told by Gold Coast he would not be offered a contract for next season.
The powerful 197cm key forward will explore his options in the upcoming free agency and trade period, eager to build on the strong form he showed in five games this season before injury cruelled his campaign.

Day, 31, was one of just two inaugural Suns still on the list alongside former captain David Swallow.

But his 14-year stint at the Suns is now over after he was told this week there would be no place for him at the club next year.

Goodbye Oea.
GOLD COAST

Gold Coast fan-favourite Hewago Oea has been told he will not be offered a contract with the club next season. The Papua New Guinean speedster, known affectionately as ā€˜Aceā€™, played 13 games in his four seasons at the Suns. Oea joined the Suns Academy in 2017, made his NEAFL debut in 2019 and was drafted by the Suns as a Category B rookie in 2020.

With Sam Day finally gone, i would of seen Ben King take #12 next to Luko but if Luko is out too..

My way too early 2025 team (if we get Noble and Rioli)

Uwland - Collins - Powell
Noble - Ballard - Rioli
Clohesy - Miller - W.Graham
Flanders - Andrew - Ainsworth
Long - King - Walter

Witts - Rowell - Anderson

Humphrey - Weller - Holman - Davies

Sub: Swallow

Something like that looks ok. Probably a little light on the bench but don't mind it.

Busy day. Still no offical delistings, but media is reporting some anyway.

At the very least this will be an eventful trade period. A lot of fan favourite or pet players may be on the outer and gone in two months time.

Though players like Farrar make sense after zero opportunities in 2024. Give him a chance to move elsewhere or rangle a new contract at a different club. Bit rough after posting a gender reveal video on socials a week ago, but so it goes. And we may still keep them on the list anyway if things donā€™t pan out that way.

But the fact is our VFL list has a lot of ā€œwe were once best 22ā€ players that signed contracts accordingly. Not breaking the bank, but dropping 2-3 players might get us a best 22 instead.

There is plenty of VFL/SA/WA depth out there for players who are happy for a chance to train with a club and see if they can make it. We have been beaten by these players in the VFL enough this year to know thatā€¦

Exactly,
Atkins, Fiorini, Macpherson, Sexton, Holman are the last of the list cloggers

and .... Dave (sorry dave)

$2mil ish there, could easily be $800k-1mil

itā€™s actually great timing. Brayden, Rory and Darcy all well paid part of the ā€œoverpaid groupā€. So if they stay on the list in the future theyā€™ll be on peanuts. Secco has taken a pay cut previously

All go out of contract the same time as Rowell and Andrew. So the money just moves across

By kicking some out now with contracts makes me think club is prepared for Luko to stay at least for another 12 months or trying to go down to 95% so 2026 we can be at 105%
