Lots of talk from crows, port and Richmond fans about our salary cap being at bursting hence why we will give up Luko for nothing and give up six and 13 ( laughable) for Rioli.

My question is has anyone seen anything in the credible media ( if it still exists) in regards to this or is it all just speculation from those who wish to be vultures over what they think is a carcass?

Haven’t heard it once. I have heard that it’s fine on several podcasts/new outlets.

But I imagine in the future we might be tight, with our long term deals + trying to lock up players like Rowell etc.

Nobody knows TPPs. The fact is that it goes up by 3.4M over 2024-2026. Journalists reported that teams had never before had so much money to spend. It is also reported that by 2026 every team will have 5-6 players on 1M+. Right now, I don't think we have anyone over 1M. I guess 3-5 close to 1M.

In 2022, just Bowes and Rankine saved us, I guess 1.5M. In 2023, just Chol, Hollands, Sharp - my guess 1M.

This year, just Ellis, Day, Macpherson - another 900K.

I believe Witts heavily back ended contract will expire in 2026.

Next year is a bonanza savings if we need to - Swallow heavily back ended, Fiorini, Atkins, Sexton, Farrar, Berry, Lemmens, Holman, Rosas. I bet Swallow will be close to 1M. Just him and Atkins could be saving us close to 1.5M again.

Academy kids Walter, Read higher contracts don't kick in until 2027.

Andrew 1M should kick in in 2026.

Going after Rioli, Noble, Himmelberg probably indicates we had a space for them regardless of what will happen with Luko.

Next big re-signing is only Rowell. I guess, the first 1M+ together with Andrew in 2026.

Luko's 1M will be off books by the end of 2026.

Don’t lot of longer term contracts have clauses in them to rise as much as the cap does

Yeah, some contracts have, some don't. Supposedly, some clubs, e.g., Essendon don't do indexation based on TPP.

Said this in the past. I’d predict the 2025 cap wasn’t the problem. 2026 onwards with the new contracts I agree

What I probably disagree with is I doubt when Witts signed his new contract they did any loading apart from adding cba increase. Along with I believe the Swallow big money is done

SEN From June 2023 “ late last year David Swallow the heartbeat of the club”

“Salary relief and that they wanted to smooth their contracts over another year.” Same went for Witts (old deal) Miller and Sexton (old deal)

Certainly agree with the bottom end primary list saving. Our academy really helps us there also. The first/second year draftee contracts being less than what list cloggers on the “primary list” are on. Atkins (450)/farrar/Holman being replaced by 3 draftees. (Partially why I hope we put Gulbin on the main list this year, over a 27 year old)

I like Gulbin. I can't see him on the main list due to spots available. As a rookie.

Dimma has said the club doesn't need anymore top end talent, it's time to go for established talent to help right now
“We’ve got picks this year, but we primarily want to sit there and bring in established talent. We had four first-round picks last year, so we don’t need to keep having first-round picks, we need to sit there and actually bring in players that can help us right here, right now.

“I think our club has got enough talent there to get us to where we need to go, but we need some players, and we’re very specific, and we’ve targeted players that will help us, I think, get us to that next step.”

Sounds very much like Coasty is coming and also that all our picks are going on Rioli, Noble and Leo, not sure how I feel about us throwing away more top end picks

I'm absolutely sure about how I feel about it
I'm sick of getting 18yo's with potential and sitting around wondering if they're going to leave once their time is done
Use the picks on established talent

I’ve perhaps poorly explained my concerns, it’s about appropriate payment not about bringing in known talent

The Suns have a reputation at the trade table as naive and I think this year is going to be no different. If it comes off and we develop into a contender know one will care, may have to put up with more jibes and snickers until then.
