2024/2025 Gold Coast Draft & Trade Periods

It's interesting to see Addinsall getting mentioned like he's a probable first round pick now. He must have really impressed a lot of recruiters with his MVP performance in the U17s Futures game on GF day.

I suspect major change came with pick concessions. Before that we spent peanuts on academy. I still remember Cochrane talking about 250K per year. I would love to know how much money is spent now on academy.
It was a part of the assistance/rescue package that the AFL put together for us in 2019 when we hit rock bottom. IIRC the AFL more than doubled the funding for our academy and that meant the draft class of 2023 was the first cohort of Gold Coast juniors to go through the whole pathway with proper amount of resources/coaching/facilities etc. Unsurprisingly, that 2023 draft class included four first round picks from our academy, a stark difference to the previous 11 years of academy access that only resulted in one first round pick (Jack Bowes, 2016). Leo Lombard will continue that tradition this year and we should see Uwland + Addinsall follow suit next year. It's not a coincidence that this is happening.

This was the best form of assistance that the AFL could have possibly given us. It will set us up for the next decade or so.

Funny how the narrative has changed. People were laughing at us a few days ago. Now they're praising us after delving a little deeper to realise what we've actually done.
Might be handy in the future too that Connors of all people is praising us for getting it done and getting his player traded.

If he’s got a gun player wanting to move in a year or two he might potentially push him in our direction.

Shaw talked more about it than I’d kinda heard anyone else mention it, with that Port Adelaide podcast guy. With all the different zones outside of actually being in “main” part of the club. I have heard some numbers, not sure I’d going with them. But either way it’s become absolutely massive

Right back to 2015, where it jumped 20% of QLD numbers, the quality finally matched (potentially delayed a little bit by covid also).

Now got me thinking reading the annual report academy/participation year to year might be fun

What was wrong with the trade heaps of points to get the draft pick we wanted and richmond get kids to see if they are good enough to take on all the expectations the tigers fan want easy call.
I've made my point, read the thread if you're interested in my opinion but not a lot of point trying to convince each other that our opinion is right. Feels to me like we are still riding on the coattails of our draft concessions, something i never wanted and said so on here
