Isn't there an opposite argument though? That a person who makes the effort to get themselves to a different city as a ticket holder is more likely to actually show up to the game, as opposed to a local resident that might have a ticket but then have something last-minute that prevents them from going, which is more likely in their existing city of residence/employment (or poor weather not stopping those who have made the effort for a new city but those that live there can't be bothered even if they've paid for it or whatever).
Yeah fair point. I guess it maybe balances out then. I just personally know of people who have missed interstate finals due to our unreliable airlines.

Edit: Speaking of, just come across this from earlier today

Will be interesting to see if footy fans and the media go after Cronulla (who have been around over 50 years) like they did to the giants last week. Basically the same crowd, for the same week of finals being a semi. Nuh i don't think so.

"Throughout the week, tickets were also being given away with Cowboys legend Johnathan Thurston buying $10,000 worth of tickets for Queensland fans living in NSW"

One fan suggested that Cronulla should be relocated.
IMO Cronulla is many times a better fit than North Sydney bears.
Perth is technically the longest city in the world stretching along the coast line - Perth Sharks fits really well,
plus it's additional status Cronulla to Perth like Fitzroy to Brisbane.

Weather is holding up in Melbourne and only standing room remains in the public ticketing allocation therefore it's safe to say that all seats will be taken in the General public and MCC areas.

Does anyone have an update on how the AFL Members are looking? Are there still seats available?

I’m guessing 92,995. I’ve guessed the capacities below; no idea on corporate capacity

Edit: unreserved seating in mcc is all taken. Only standing room left

Yeah, as much as the media talks up a "cost of living crisis", an awful lot of people have a lot of money for purely discretionary expenses.
It's not that bad out there.

Not the thread, but it’s very bad out there. For a lot. It’s just the gap between the haves and the have nots is ever widening.

Proves Geelong are as big as Hawthorn historically they were bigger and have been involved in some of the biggest crowds. They are 6th most attended club ever after Melbourne and play home games at Kardinia Park.

FYI, Geelong was instrumental in the early development of Australian Football especially w.r.t. the rules.

I think we need to calm down on finals crowds - yesterday drew 15,000 more than two years ago and 21,000 more than the 2016 Cats PF final against the Swans (which has a far bigger following than the Lions).

We live in a completely new era for finals attendances - not just in Melbourne but across the competition. I gather this is the first year that all finals (save the GWS v Lions final) sold out?

Compare 2024 to 2010:

Speaking of, it will be very interesting to see the split between the Swans and Lions this Saturday. Sydney has the bigger base but I presume the neutrals will be riding the Lions?

I have no doubt that Saturday will once again either draw 100,022 or 100,024 😂

Or 100,016!

Fact is Geelong have played in the biggest H/A/finals crowds across any period of time.

Not sure about the split on Saturday do the Swans get more allocation as they have more members?

Pretty sure tickets for members of competing clubs are split 50-50 now, irrespective of how many members each club has.
