How crap is next years??
There's schools of thought that next year's top end exceeds this years, but the problem is many of those top end players are already tied to clubs.

It could all change of course. Welsh for instance was a projected top 5 pick this time last year, and will now probably end up in the fifties or slide even further...but the early signs aren't great on how compromised 2025 is going to be.

I agree. If the club did go down the path of trading our FF I’d trust the decision but the fact Shanahan has fallen this far suggests there are concerns that we are unaware of. Interesting to see where he ends up.

The others, Clarke, Gerreyn now look like F2 trades if we really want them. I’ve been advocating or at least accepting if we were to trade our FF. But not for these two.

So interesting that our board seem so united on Gerreyn as a target.
Hasn't been linked to us and has largely been ignored by Cal Towmey.
Interesting to see where he lands. I like others, thought his highlights suited our needs.

I feel like all the smoke around Dodson makes it more likely that he's the first name we call out, if we do indeed trade up.

I've been thinking about the irrational and over played emotion regarding the North trade here.

If North had have traded their future 1st for pick 18 would you be happier?
And let's say they still took Whitlock? What's the diff between 18 and 27 if they were focussed on the player? Answer, zero.

But lets break it down.
It's not unreasonable to suggest North finish 12th in 2025.

So, this is how it looks.
Lose - 2025 pick 6
Gain - Whitlock, 2025 pick 19.

Of course there's some risk with every draft choice.
But the trade was not stupid.

If North spring up the ladder and there’s some early academy players or father sons their F1 could be 10+

Also could still suck as a team and it be pick 3.

In the end it all comes down to the players you select being good players.

We traded an F1 for Holmes a few years ago.

If Holmes was a dud it would lock upon as a bad trade… but he is a gun and it looks like an inspired call.

All depends on selecting the right players.

In saying that… if they have a shocker of a year, Whitlock would wanna make it.

He certainly wanna be better than his non drafted brother Jack or it’ll be lol Norf.

I haven’t looked much at Gerreyn… only highlights here and there.

He has a bit of Rohan Marshall about him.

Don’t love the look of Dodson.

Ahhh in Wells we trust.

We think we know Wells. But he keeps pulling strings we never expect.
Maybe everyone he wanted as a priority is gone. Lets face it, we dont have capital.

Or maybe he's way smarter than us (likely)
Would not be surprised if he trades F2 now.

Having said that (yes I have fence splinters), we've turned over the list massively.
Maybe he'll just roll with pick 40.

I'd actually like him to trade a F3 to get inside the top 40 to someone who doesnt need that pick this year.
Trade it to the dogs for the lol's

Yeh I'd prefer Gerreyn's kicking and competitiveness to dodson's tap work and accumulation.
Definitely agree with the marshall comparison, solid but slightly shorter.
Dodson has English traits and certainly isn't as much of a forward option as Gerreyn could be.

In the end, I have no idea and just hope we get a couple that become good players.

In a perfect world Mraz or Barrat.
With one of Sims or Gerreyn.
Clarke would be nice but Jacques or Artemis good too.
One of Davidson, Henderson, Toner or Bice.
And stumpf for the upside.

I sort of like them going hard but I still feel like they could have traded pick 3 last year for a couple of later R1 picks and perhaps had Curtin and OSullivan ..and have talls a lot more covered..

As you say …forgetting the number ..it will end up being a Whitlock V player X judgement on if they made the right call..

As stupid as it looks, I imagine they're looking at it like this:

If we rise up the ladder: It doesn't look too bad.

If we suck again: LDU will almost certainly leave and we get the top 3 pick anyway.

If Whitlock is a gun: We won't even remember who the 2025 first was.

If it gets really bad: AFL house will help us out, won't they?

They're like the Suns now really, it's akin to the rich kid who doesn't have to worry when he crashes his first car.

Picks for them aren't weighted to the same degree as they would be to virtually any other club.

Unfortunately, whatever mistake they make will probably end up being covered for them through no initiative of their own.

You could make the case that it will end up being Daniel or player X that determines its success.

Don't trade daniel, they have the pick to get whitlock and retain F1.

Yeah that looked a putrid trade by Norf.

It also gave the Doggies something to hang their hat on after we worked them for Smith.

They also had a shocker when they won that nothing game in R23 last year which cost them Harley Reid and got them Zane Dursma instead.

Reid at North could have seriously changed the trajectory of that club but they botched it at the last hurdle.

They’ve Rick rolled themselves a few times but as we know… The AFL will send them some kind of a “assistance package” when/if they fail with current picks and cry out for help again.
