Random guess (with 0.0001% of likelihood), based on the way things are falling:

Pick 42 - Jacques
(Future 2nd for Brisbane late 40's pick) - Gerryn
Pick 50 - J. Henderson
Pick 60ish - Stumpf
Rookie Pick - S. Davidson
Rookie Pick - Blakiston

1 pick saved for SSP/MSD

Would 36 for 50, F2 be possible with GWS. Allows you to get ahead of Essendon.
No bidding on Smith allowed though.

Sounds like gws are trading that pick and I'd probably do that.

I love the first 2 picks but no way does henderson get to the rookie draft we may have to take him at 42 of we want him.

Strong argument that it’s the best course to take.
Been saying that is the best case for this year.
Not like we’ve been quiet this time of year all the time.

Go Catters

If we can get and keep Smith Clark Conway and even Jack Martin on the paddock and best 22 I'd be happy anything we get from here in the draft is a throw at the stumps anyway.

I want to hold our F1 now and hopefully snag a player or two we rate with our current picks.

There’s a handful of names still available for selection and our pick isn’t too far away.

If we need to get creative then hopefully we can make a move whilst holding our F1.

In the end all that really matters is the players we select are good players and not misses… no matter what number they are selected or what we do to get the picks.

Bring on tonight.

These are probably the obvious ones we know about at those selections, but we all know Wellsy will have a couple from complete obscurity playing Amateurs somewhere.

If we offer our F1 around here to get one of the key position players, we might be able to get something back - F3? A F3 from a dud team would be around P40-45 anyway.

Trading what ended up being pick 20 and a second round upgrade for Smith seems like a bargin. Obviously our pick was always going to blow out but seeing it in reality makes me like the Smith deal more.

Hopefully Todays recruiting yeilds as well as last year which was just brilliant. I am still hoping we pick up Ajang Kuol as a rookie. Mature body and I thought showed a bit this year.

I'd be happy with that.
Davidson won't last much longer than 50 (it at all that long).

Hopefully we turn up tonight but leave our F1 at home so as not to be tempted.

Maybe F2 & F3 can get us somewhere near 35 if there is someone we like.
Or F2 + 42.

North have certainly set an expensive precedent so I'd be pretty satisfied waiting until 42 and taking best available.
If a tall like Gerreyn or Sims was around, great. If Dodson slid, even better. Clarke or Jacques. Clancy Dennis. There will be some talent around.

Still think it’s likely we trade either our FF but more likely our F2 to move up the order. It’s just not our style to sit on our hands and just wait for our number to come up.

If we are to hold tight, it’s possible that Dodson or Gerreyn will be available. Jaques too. Clarke and Shanahan likely gone though. Boxshall 50/50. Dennis probable but won’t be there for our second pick.

I’m not so much worried about the mature aged players. Think they will slide a bit further.

I agree.

Really like Davidson but we are pretty well covered for medium forwards. Feels like we have bigger needs. I think him Toner and Bice get called out tonight at some stage and go on to be good players.

I've been thinking about the irrational and over played emotion regarding the North trade here.

If North had have traded their future 1st for pick 18 would you be happier?
And let's say they still took Whitlock? What's the diff between 18 and 27 if they were focussed on the player? Answer, zero.

But lets break it down.
It's not unreasonable to suggest North finish 12th in 2025.

So, this is how it looks.
Lose - 2025 pick 6
Gain - Whitlock, 2025 pick 19.

Of course there's some risk with every draft choice.
But the trade was not stupid.

What if they drafted a Waybill type instead just because they rate him a top 10 pick when no one else did. It's a Liam Stocker situation.

I'm less critical of the trade itself.

I'm highly critical of the daniel trade though. If they had a consistent strategy, there is no way they'd give up 25 for daniel if they were as keen as it seems to get a developing key position player in this years draft.

That was less than a month ago, whitlock/barrat/mraz were expected to be available at their daniel pick. Instead, they paid overs for a 28 yo HB who is hardly a need and backed themselves into a situation where they were seemingly desperate to get back into this years draft.

North’s list management for years has been a dog’s breakfast. Seemingly no coherent plan. With the picks they’ve had for a long time now they really should have a far more balanced list even before this draft.

Reaching for someone like Daniel is bizarre. A decision made with little consideration of the impact down the track. Giving up massive draft capital for Whitlock may end up being an inspired move, but more likely will be a further embarrassment.

Look they're all solid options, but they all feel like 'He could potentially be a gem as a late selection' kind of options if you know what I mean.

At the end of the day if the player is a gun then we won't care (Holmes basically) but the F1 was reserved for the Hotton, Trainor, Armstrong etc types IMO. Shanahan bordering on that group, but it would appear he's got some flaws of some sort.

Non-negotiable first round quality talents that you could justify to yourself even if next year went south and we didn't have a pick.

I rate Gerreyn, Clarke, etc and would love them at our current picks...but I'm not sure if they are so promising that you take the risk on a potential poor 2025 season from us just to get them. It all feels a bit FOMO to me.

F2 is fine though IMO. Even if we shit the bed next year, the bids will ensure the pick ends up in a similar spot.

I agree. If the club did go down the path of trading our FF I’d trust the decision but the fact Shanahan has fallen this far suggests there are concerns that we are unaware of. Interesting to see where he ends up.

The others, Clarke, Gerreyn now look like F2 trades if we really want them. I’ve been advocating or at least accepting if we were to trade our FF. But not for these two.
