Also mentions Charlie McCartin
I completely forgot about Charlie.

Depending on whether there is a DFA we want I can see us only picking 1 tonight in hope Cochran goes to the rookie.

Grab Cochrane and McCartin as a rookie and pick a DFA

If Cochran is bid on we match, then have 1 extra rookie spot

I wish that this business of players' reactions to being drafted being filmed was a thing more than say 5+ years ago. Can you imagine the reactions of players like Parker and Papley?!
Papley was at work, told his boss he'd keep going, but was told he should probably pack up and go.

No, you know this isn't what I meant.

Hanily should have played last year but our coach was as stubborn as can be. The error was the forward mix.

2 keys- Logan + (McLean or Amartey don’t care which one)
2 mediums (Hayward + Cleary)
2 smalls (Paps + 1 of Campbell, Hanily, Dattoli), not fussed who the second one is, give Campbell first crack if you want

That should be the structure none of this 3 slow tall thing it’s never going to work.

I’d also play Logan in the ruck a few mins here and there like Daniher does. He played a few times there and it got him involved a bit. The second forward I’m here or there probably favour McLean just only as he covers ruck more but whatever not fussed

Like the idea of Logan playing minutes in the ruck. Likewise Amartey. Then gives us true flexibility in which tall forwards we pick.

He had one full game and then was part time in some others.
Yeah and I'm happy with us leaving him there for an extended period because as you've rightly pointed out, he looked solid there towards the end of this year.

Still, look at how someone like Papley or Charlie Cameron can come in and immediately be so effective as a small forward. Or Lohmann this year (took him a few years but he was behind McCarthy who is an excellent forward himself to be fair). If Dattoli or Bowman can have close to the early impact those players had, it will be huge for our Premiership chances in the next few years.

On Papley and Cameron, and this isn't directed at you because I know your reasons for not being psyched on the picks are different, they're probably a perfect example of why the cynical attitude towards taking small forwards early is outdated. They were both taken in the rookie draft (after already going undrafted in 2015 in Paps' case) because for so long small forwards weren't really valued at drafts (Breust and Stengle other examples, Miers went in the national draft but slid) and I think recruiters have realised how stupid that was and started correcting this. Maybe with time it will prove to be an overcorrection but we'll have to wait and see.

Not sure Dattoli is a pressure option, more a skinny creative type. Getting someone like Gross would have been a better bet.

Bowman might have some highlights, but I feared we were already trying to be more of a highlights team than a combative, consistent side.
Dattoli is hardly skinny. He's a ball of muscle.

Ahhh yes.
The 2015 (16) Rookie draft.

The highlight of the evening on the TV.

*well it was for Papley and Dan Houston.

How blessed are Brisbane. The best player in the draft, as thought by many, doesn't cop a bid until 5 yet we were forced to give up 5 for Campbell.
Even Marshall, who would walk into the starting midfield at most AFL clubs doesn't cop a bid till 26.
They must think Christmas has come early.
They were a basket case 7 years ago with all young players leaving for home.
They cleared the decks with Fagan coming in & haven't looked back while we have gone backwards by stealth, masquerading as a top team for the last 3 years.
We need to clean out some players & coaches that will not be part of a premiership.
That's most of the older talent that have been given a charmed run like Heeney, Mills, McCartin, Hayward, etc, etc.
Now I know the Heeney call won't happen but he has 3 years left max as a mid such is the toll it takes on his body.

Time to CASH IN.

I think a few on here need to be giving both Bowman and Keane a chance.

I don't think anyone is blaming them or being upset at them personally. I hope they go really well in the red and white and will definitely cheer for them. I am just arguing that we had greater needs than a small and medium forward.

That is not a slight on them though and even if we have no defence and our midfield gets comfortably beaten in the clearances I hope they both go really well in the forward line.

Howabout a maybe on that take.
That looked like a busted a$e wuntil around round 13 when they beat the dogs.

Sure they were in a GF last year...and ultimately won one.
At round 12 or so. The Jury was out if they were even going to play finals.

If we are that confident Warner is going, so confident we are already drafting his replacement, then we should have traded him a few months ago.
I don't think they need to be confident that Warner's going to still consider his potential departure as a possible factor in their decision-making.

I think it can be possible for the recruiters to look at what Dattoli brings and like it, whilst also recognising that we might need more of it in the years to come should Warner leave.

Sir Dane would have taken a drag on his Winnie Blue, leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes & uttered “niiiiiiice”.

Nice table.

We've got picks 13 and 24 (and 53) on Night 2. Hopefully we can use the first of those before a bid for Cochran. If no bid comes I'd like to see us take two players before Cochran and then match a later bid, if need be, before the rookie draft (which would mean 5 ND playes in total).

I wouldn't 100% write off getting another medium forward. Personally I'd be happy if we got Davidson. Unlike Bowman, he's much older and could play straight away.

However, more likely we target different types. I'd be happy with a KPP (I like the names you have listed for pick 40) and a mid. For the mids, at 40, Kennedy or Boxshall would be good. Urquhart would be ok with our 4th pick. Why don't you list Kennedy? Don't you rate him?

Through sheer persistence you are opening my mind to Mactaggart as a rookie - but I'll be impressed if it happens!
I'm a Sam Davidson fan for a few of reasons. First, he could make an impact in his first year as a mature player. And let's face it, if we see ourselves as in the window we want players that can have impact, especially in case of injury to best 22 players.

Second, he ticks the box for a 190ish cm player. A category we are short of.

Third, he may have potential as a Rampe replacement if we can develop his versatility. He could also be and answer if we want to go for the "two and a half talls" options in the forward line.

Not to forget his excellent speed and endurance.

Fourth, we add to our sports medicine department for free

Possible copy and paste from other sources, but this is from HSun - a few repeat names:

With their remaining picks, the Swans could look to add to their defence and are believed to be fans of key defender Noah Mraz, who is still on the board. They have also been linked to WA bolter Hugh Boxshall – a 188cm midfielder – along with South Australian half-back Angus Clarke, Demons NGA key defender Riak Andrew - the brother of Mac - ruckman Jacob Molier, small defender Blake Leidler.

Also mentions Charlie McCartin
Is that Cavanaugh and Batten
