Take the best player available at pick 32 and then get a couple of mature agers with the later picks. It's a deep draft and the last deep draft (2022) had useful players available in the 30s and beyond.

Yeah I'd just load up on the kids. Not a fan of mature age players in the women's games unless they've already proven themselves, in which case they'd already be playing senior footy somewhere and not be available as a late draftpick.

Really good draft, just load up and there might be some quality sneak through later.

Lots of late bloomers and players that have been passed over have been recruited and played very well in the AFLW. Riddell would be the most extreme example and Sheerin the most extreme recent example, but there's lots around. I would guess that there's a lot more state leaguers that have been drafted or signed and turned into quality players than late-round juniors.

I won't be mad if we find a bunch of juniors we like that last that long, but I feel we should be taking at least one tall forward who can compete for a spot straight away.

St Kilda used picks #32, #57 and #62 in the 2024 AFL Womens' National Draft

Pick #32 Zoe Besanko (Dandenong Stingrays / Vic Country) 18y 177cm - A key position player that can pinch hit in the ruck. Has serious speed and aerial ability. Captained Dandenong Stingrays to 5th of 18 in 2024 and selected for both Vic Country and the National Academy.

Pick #57 Kyla Forbes (Calder Cannons / Vic Metro) 18y 168cm - A strong left-footed utility who can play in just about any position. She played as a midfielder for Calder, but in order to play all 3 matches for Vic Metro she ended up in defence, often taking the kickouts.

Pick #62 Alana Gee (Gold Coast Suns / North Mackay / Southport) 20y 170cm - Alana was taken with the Suns' first pick in the 2022 Womens' National Draft, a product of their academy, she represented Queensland in the AFLW under 18 Championships after impressing in QAFLW club Southport. Alana suffered from a stress reaction in her back and was placed on the inactive list for the rest of season 2022. After playing 7 matches in 2023, Alana was favoured as potential Rising Star in 2024, then in early 2024 she suffered an ACL injury and did not play a match.
