Cheaper than I was expecting.Seems like a pretty good deal.
I'm pretty confident that this will be the best player we've drafted since Smith, but we're in a similar spot to where we were in this year's men's draft - we have to take whatever falls to us. In terms of needs, Emma McDonald would suit us well if the teams in front of us all go for mids. If one of the teams in front of us takes McDonald, then there should be at least one really good mid available at our pick.We just have to nail pick 8 like never before. Personally, I’d like a strong midfield bull. I’m not sure that player will be around our pick, plenty of talls this year and perhaps quite small mids. We just need to take more territory rather than starting behind the 8 ball
Unlikely sounds right. We've managed to hold onto pick 8, so we could dangle that in front of Essendon. They may be doing us a favour turning us down this year, given all the Superdraft talk.Another good trade for us.
Barr will slot straight into the wing spot Kelly is vacating.
I presume that Essendon trade is unlikely to happen?
Still waiting on word as to whether anything went through before the deadline.Reading the latest AFL.com.au article, seems we might be looking to use pick 8 for Amber Clarke?
That's fair. I'd say Clarke has more upside than anyone likely to be there at 8. More athletic, better kick, has decent size. There wouldn't be many faster players in the entire comp.Probably would have preferred to keep pick 8 so hopefully Clarke is worth it.
If she has speed, I'm instantly sold. I felt that was one area we were really lacking this year. That's fair. I'd say Clarke has more upside than anyone likely to be there at 8. More athletic, better kick, has decent size. There wouldn't be many faster players in the entire comp.
At worst, she's another Ash Richards and I'd be happy to add as many Ash Richards as they'd let me have.
Wonder why she wanted out / Essendon happy to trade? I am the same. No top 30 pick in what might be the best draft since the comp began, while IMO being stuck with a bit of middle of nowhere list, is probably short sighted. Again IMO. Feels like done 2019-ish Men’s team trying to scrape out of the bottom reaches by trading in without a chanceProbably would have preferred to keep pick 8 so hopefully Clarke is worth it.
That said, she is still only 19 (bday in a few days) so if we rate her the same as the players around 8 in the draft, it could be a good deal long term.
Amber flies. The big question for me is going to be role. She spent most of her time at Essendon as a forward and a little bit up on the wing. She didn't get in for a single centre bounce this year. I wonder if that was part of the reason she was interested in a move.If she has speed, I'm instantly sold. I felt that was one area we were really lacking this year.
To be fair, we added two top-ten picks from what was probably the best draft prior to this one. Baskaran just turned 20 and and Clarke will soon. We're hoping for immediate impact out of these moves, yes, but other than Barr, we'd be hoping for a long-term improvement out of them as well.Wonder why she wanted out / Essendon happy to trade? Fingers crossed. Whether they hold that former draft pick value is the question. To be fair, we added two top-ten picks from what was probably the best draft prior to this one. Baskaran is an smaller inside mid who got forced out of the midfield because of Hawthorn aggressively recruiting mature-aged mids (and lucked out with Williamson falling to them). Clarke is a forward/mid that didn't get an opportunity to play mid at Essendon. They might wind up playing wing here, but I'm hoping they at least get a shot in the middle. They were both very strong in that area as juniors. Both Baskaran and Clarke seem to be wing or running mids rather than inside mids.
